There's a nut on the bottom on the drum. It's used to adjust the alignment. Turn it either clockwise or counterclockwise while the mixer is running until the grinding noise quietens or disappears. Also tighten the nuts around the centre where the noise is more audible.

Must be like me you wanna use your tools for what they are for but still want them to look brand new. I never seen anyone not try and scratch a concrete mixer. Good video

Agree with Michael's post below. Ghost you solve some of the noise by bending the flange but the other part of the noise is because the drum is out of round. The teeth have clearance in part of the drum and bind in the noisy section on the grooved wheel. I just put mine together today, and same thing, the drum is out of round and it "growls" too. It may work itself out as the teeth wear down the grooves. Yours hasn't because you still have a painted interior drum=not too much use. lol

The noise was driving me crazy, so I tried to quieten it down. I've since put about 30 90lb. bags through it. It's much better now, especially under load. Not perfect, but much better. Take care, G.
After 1st use of about 35 bags of 60 pounds the mixer really slowed down when lowering the barrel to its lowest mix level. I would have to rise it up to keep it mixing. Other than that it worked fine. Only use two 60 pound bags at a time. Any thoughts on why? Your 2 videos where life savers. Please respond if you can. It was the harbor freight 3.5 mixer
I can't say for sure Shane, but I too have only used 2 60lb bags at a time for my projects and have had no problems. I would suggest checking the tension of the belt. Not much help, but hope it helps nonetheless. Take care, G.

My two boys were running it so I didn't hear it while they had concrete it until the last few runs. Might be getting bogged down right at that spot were it really is hard on the motor. I dealt with the same issue. Found the gaps in the rims teeth to have some closed and others wide open so check that, and removed one of the two washers that the bowl sits on which brings the bowls flange closer to the gear. Also had some of the gasket contacting the teeth on the gear so had to pull the gasket into the bowl more. And recommend shimming the gear in or out on the shaft to center the gear in the bowls rim teeth.
Glad to know I wasn't the only one bothered by this problem. Visited this issue about 8 years ago when I picked up a used mixer. Mixer is still working following its' rebuild at that time. Good job G.
Great job evening that out. I am not sure of the OD of the drum. I wondered if the flange you straightened would lay flat on the open end of a 55 gallon drum. You could use that to try and true it up more if it did.
I have a question for you guys. Ever since my first or second use, obviously the clear coat and the orange base coat is starting to get sanded away, which is causing the dry concrete mix to clump and stick to the drum. What’s the solution to this? I’ve considered trying fluid film but I don’t know how that will affect my final product. Any advice would save me from a hospital visit trying to mix inside the mixer.
M. Newman, no fluid film and no need to. I had the same problem with it clumping to the drum. For me, the trick was to wet down the drum in advance and add about 1/2 the water required for the final mix. Then add some of the mix to get a good wet slurry, lest it churn, then add the rest. I would then spray with a hose at the top of the drum to blow off anything that was sticking. Little by little you can get it well mixed and for the constancy of what your job requires. And never lest the drum get dry. If you're working by yourself- wash the drum out after every batch. Hope this helps, G.
@@ghostses Well that changed up a few things on how the parts go together but your video still helped a lot! The biggest difference is they put ALL the bolts and washers in a single bag together. I went thru and separated them all out and put the pieces in alike piles. They could make the process a lot easier if they would do numbered bags.
Yeah, I've heard from many others that they just dumped everything in one bag. A pain, but still doable. I'm actually using mine right now for a fencing project. It's working great. The build should be posted in the near future. Good luck, G.
Maybe instead of pliers you could've used a pipe wrench and a piece of pipe for leverage , pliers rely on your grip , not so for pipe wrench , but yes I feel your pain on annoying noises 👍

i looked on the bottom of the mixer bowl, did not see any that like that, it might be on another type of mixer, but not mine sorry to say.

The growling is an important part of the process, you can't eliminate that!
Mixing just wouldn't be the same without that noise.
I know my mixer makes that noise and it a very different drive system. It is just sort of a mixer sound I think.

According to the operating manual, a long, undersized extension cord will cause this. Loss of amps on a long, thin run.
@@werquantum Perhaps, but this video was powered in my shop plugged right into a 15amp receptacle. No loss on a long thin run here...

The zerk on the pillow block holding the drive gear shaft still has orange paint on it. Grease it!
I don't know if that is a zerk Arlyn- I'll have to look. But, I removed both blocks and greased them in the assembly video. Take care, G.
