They are probably the most underrated glam metal bands of 21st century.

Lol no
I was literally thinking the same thing. Justin Hawkins would have been a superstar if they came out in the 80s.

They are such good musicians.

"The Darkness" is one of the few musical bands from the 2000's that give me hope for classic rock. Sure there are plenty of good underground bands, but these guys just FEEL that whole 70s and 80s arena rock vibe
can you recommend some other bands like them too? I'm on a trip right now. I've picked up H.E.A.T and Steel Panther (musically by far the most superior though I don't care for their lyrical theme)
And I love it. Need more like them. I love Greta though too
You should definetly check "A Work of Art" its a swedish AOR, their record "In Progress" is a true gem.
Anyone looking for a great (also British) glam rock band should look at The Struts. Also very Queen-esque sound and funny enough, the singer Luke Spiller was greatly influenced by The Darkness

That's one of the best guitar solos of this century... so far.
It's 2024, and this still hits so hard!
Here for the first time.
I'm an elderly virgin.
Just heard it in the pub I work at and was instantly taken back. Still a banger for sure.
have you watched the movie XD
Just seen them live in Melbourne Australia, this was the best song of the night. Absolute banger.
So F***ing true...
if they had come on the scene in 1985, they would have been gods among men
true
they are better than all of the half assed popular artists today.
They are gods among men
exactly
Kinda Def Leppardish mixed with 70's glam rock
Rumour has it, The Darkness left a crystal guitar eternally spinning on top of that rocky promontory; as a kind of Excalibur for whoever may find it and play this righteously strident riff, in order to claim the charmed axe.
Are ye sure it wasn't a glass guitar containing a muse named Singring?
The Guardians of the Protectorate of Rock reckon a 'never heard Jimmy Page riff' is secreted in a vault at Bron yr Aur, Wales
This. This is my favourite comment!
Deserves way more views. The Darkness are so underrated. Great band with some great songs

@@seeminglytransparent hot damn 12 million.
still, criminally under-promoted in the US. got a song catalogue loaded with monster hits but as people can't take the humor the boys infuse into their shows, critics and listeners took pleasure in panning them. I suppose they preferred the band to be cutting themselves, gettin into bar brawls, taking themselves too seriously. Nope. That's not the way they do things. No matter. Their fans around the world love them just as they are;
a top tier guitar band spanning the gamut from pop to no-holds-barred heavy metal.
This band is so underrated with such a strong lead singer/talented guitarist not to mention he is a great person too with a kind soul.
Dont forget about great clickbaits 😂
underrated my arse
They weren’t underrated in the UK though…Permission to Land was a huge hit at the time and they did something completely unheard of in theory genre…they brought glam rock to the masses. I knew people who didn’t really know what glam rock was until they came along.

Hard to believe this song is 20 YEARS OLD!!!
20 likes for twenty years
Shut your mouth. I can remember jamming this like it was yesterday 🤣
And still is better than most crap put out today
😱
Well, it could well be 40 years old… it sounded vintage, a bit like early ‘80s, already when it came out. 😅
Imagine having heard this song thousands of times in the last 20 odd years… and never having seen the music video until TODAY. Fucking epic. I don’t think any other band can get away with going for something this “cheesy” and it coming off monumental and beautiful. Gave me goosebumps!
Well, you've got me beat, I'd never heard it OR seen the vid until about 4 months ago. Where have I been??!! I think Darkness can get away with this song where other bands can't is they always deliver the goods with a ton of heart and soul! This song is simply gorgeous, rockin' and powerful. I think "Love on the Rocks with No Ice" and "Dinner Lady Arms" (etc!) are masterpieces as well. Great band, Justin and the boys are badasses!
Filmed on location at The Blue Mountains and Jenolan Caves, west of Sydney Australia 🤘🇦🇺🤘
By the way, I didn't 'like' your comment because it was on 69 and I didn't want to ruin it 😁
Epic Song!! Will stand the test of time in terms of anthems
Still one of my top favourite songs since i was a kid (mustve been around 10 when it came out), just love the lyrics ♡ saw them at ...Godiva? festival a few years ago, beautiful performance

Oh, the first flush of youth was upon you when our eyes first met
And I knew that to you and into your life I had to get
Oh, I felt light-headed at the touch of this stranger's hand
An assault my defenses systematically failed to withstand
'Cause you came at a time
When the pursuit of one true love in which to fall
Was the be all and end all
Love is only a feeling (drifting away)
When I'm in your arms, I start believing (it's here to stay)
But love is only a feeling
Anyway
Oh, the state of elation that this unison of hearts achieved
I had seen, I had touched, I had tasted, and I truly believed
That the light of my life would tear a hole right though each cloud
That scudded by
Just to beam on you and I
Love is only a feeling (drifting away)
When I'm in your arms, I start believing (it's here to stay)
But love is only a feeling

Love is only a feeling (drifting away)
And we gotta stop ourselves believing (it's here to stay)

Permission to Land has always been like a Time Machine back to a lovely time of my life. Lovely, but a difficult listen at times.
I’d just left school when it came out, I’d left a horrible place where I was bullied mercilessly every day by my own cousin and ‘friends.’
I’d finally left that behind and started college studying animal management and I made new friends and it was just like a breath fresh of air… things were good at home too! For a change!

I've known about this band for almost six years and listened to them alot. imagine my surprise when someone told me the other that they're are a modern band formed in the 21st century and not in the 70's or 80's....
Tommy S not trying to be a dick or anything, but how the hell didn't you know that?
Gillis Clarke i don't even know, I even saw them live at a festival once. guess their sound is just very authentic. It's not like overproduced and heavily compressed. It sounds like music made for vinyl. Their music always used to be played at a local radiostation which only play rockclassics so i think that something to do with it aswell.
They must have found the fountain of youth, if you believed they were formed in the 70´s/80´s :P
Camilla Elise Andresen Well i was in the far back when they played so i've never really seen them before now.
I know Justin and his sister used to live on Walton Road Lowestoft then moved with the band to colton long road and still to this date!!!

Darkness is a sort of band, you play in the background not really paying attention while doing something else, only to find later, you learned all their songs and you sing them in your head all day. Great band!
That's where I grew up, I know all those landmarks featured in the song, Kings Tableland, Hanging Rock in Blackheath, Devil's Playground in Jenolan Caves.
There was a rock band/open mic/blues night or something on every night in that area in the late 80s, early 90s. Alot of musicians from that area.
This song just nails the feeling I have growing up there and thinking back to that place and the people I knew there at the time.
Thanks Darkness.
This song is grammatically on another level.
Probably love this song for the rhythm, but yes, glad to hear that the grammar is not just left under the table.
yes, Justin is a extremely articulate man. guite sharp.
A lot of my rocker friends mock this band, mainly for the vocal style, but I must disagree, it's simply another form of talent, and the rest of the band certainly is not lacking either. And besides that, even if the vocals can come off as a bit silly at times, there is something sincere and genuinely powerful in their music, something many bands both new and old cannot claim to have.
I totally agree! Their music is clean rock. Like pristine holy rock -/../ that enlightens the soul rock on!

It's December 2021. Saw them last night in Stoke. They played this mighty tune. Phenomenal tune after all of these years..
🤘 😎 🤘
Can't believe when this was out there was no facebook, no twitter and other social media outlets. Almost 20 years ago. Incredible how time flies.
Last note of guitar solo to middle finger at the drone. Most awesome shot in any music video ever
He's pointing with his index finger
The camera is on a helicopter. Drone use for filming did not become tecnically advanced to be cost efficient till nearly 10 years later.
one word: Magnificent
One of the last bastion of 80's rock and roll in the early 2000's now this kind of music is just about dead.

I'm going to fix that🎸
Sad but true
no more clearly evidenced than at 2024's Grammys, where the Rock award was given out in another ceremony BEFORE the major televised glitzy show. smh
That's what I call _rocking_ out... 🪨
Utterly great debut album
Their hit was "I believe in a thing called love", but this one is absolutely lovely. One of my all time favourites. This bunch were overlooked.
His voice gives me goosebumps ✨
