  • In this video we replace the rear driveshaft of our Cayenne due to the center bushing/bearing starting to show some wear, one of the symptoms of this is a vibration or shudder while accelerating. There's a couple different ways to fix this issue, we chose to just replace the rear driveshaft which wasn't too bad of a job other than the fact that the rear part of the driveshaft was stuck to the differential flange. Besides that things went well and the car drives great after the replacement. Thanks for watching, please Like and Subscribe.

    Very detailed explanation of critical steps that helps anticipate problems and prepare for this job. Video is clear, well lighted and in focus. I hope my mechanic is as thorough.

    My 06 Cayenne S Rear CV that attached to Diff would not release so after removing the 6 triple square bolts , I re-connected the transmission and center bolts, jacked up the front wheels, chocked rear wheels and set emergency brake. Started motor put in gear and the rear connection came off so easily. NO air hammers grinders or saws. Disconnecting the exhaust looks difficult but it is pretty easy. the rear hangers on the silencer can remain, remove the side hangers and connector sleeve and it will drop down and the drive shaft can be removed. The hard part was getting the shafts apart. I did it by myself, t
    Tough, 2 people makes it a lot easier, marking the spline and expanding the bronze retaining clip and pulling them apart. All good now, My OE parts Meyle cost $140 from FCP . Had i known I would have purchased a complete new one for $175.and done in 1.5 hours. It is hard to believe the Germans can over engineer the rear & front CV connections and put a flimsy center bearing. I think they are making us pay for winning WW2. Overall this is an exciting & fun SUV to drive.

    To break the back loose I used the trick of putting it in gear, breaks on and put it in gear seemed to work fine. getting the thing in and out clearing the back subframe and clearing the center front alignment shaft is a bear IMO. Appreciate the video.

    Excellent video. Does the replacement come together with the rubber parts and prop shaft as well?. Can we just replace the rubber parts only while maintaining the old prop shaft ?. Will there be a balancing issue if we do that? There is a vibration in my Cayenne turbo when accelerating.

    Hello, from the front part of the cardan, did you remove the 3 screws that attach to the cardan with the plate or support or did you also remove the other screws that go to the side of the transmission?

    Very informative! one question..... is it simple and or possible to separate the front and rear driveshaft? Or do I have to remove the whole unit to replace that center bearing?

    Someone wrote in a review there’s a “special tool” they used to do the replacement but you didn’t seem to use one. Any idea what they might be referring to? Trying to be in and out not spend all week on this swap. Thanks for the video!

      I think I might mention the tool in this video but yes there is a special tool that you place on the driveshaft near the center bearing and it just keeps the driveshaft center in the tunnel while you tighten all the bolts down. It’s not absolutely necessary but not a bad thing to have. We had no issues after the install, no vibrations or anything. Thanks for the comment and I hope you’re replacement goes well.

      @@kamalakeel It’s right at the beginning of the video I must have skipped a couple minutes thinking it was just general information. Thanks so much, I live in New England rust belt so hopefully it’s not impossible to get the rear off.

    What site did you get the front and back drive shaft and how much was it? I have been to Autozone, O’rileys, etc and the they only sell them separately.

      I bought this rear driveshaft from CarParts.com we only replace the rear driveshaft in this video, the two separate pieces of it are connected on that center support bearing which is what fails. The front driveshaft is a different unit that usually doesn't have issues. I'll paste the link in here but make sure you get the correct model and year so you get the correct one for your vehicle. Sorry for the late reply.

    Here’s a question… what do you do if you totally forgot to mark your driveshaft before removing and replacing with a new one… and now you do have a ton of vibrations / humming? 😭😭😭😭

    • @kamalakeel
      @kamalakeel  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well marking how the driveshaft was oriented is for if you’re using the same driveshaft when going back in. If your replacing with a completely different and new one then it shouldn’t have vibrations. If you know you have the new one in there correctly with all the bolts tight then the new one might not be balanced correctly.

      You need to align the centre bearing

  • @drifterlocus

    did you have a vibration after?

    • @kamalakeel
      @kamalakeel  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Car drove great with no vibration. Usually people get vibrations when taking apart and replacing the center bearing and then putting the same driveshaft back together, since we just replaced the whole driveshaft with a new balanced one we had no issues with that.
