Thank you for sharing another awesome video. Woohoooo Nice walnuts there! Was hoping to see the new skidder taking them out. Thats for another video coming soon i hope. Have a great week out there keep her safe and keep looking up.
Spent Saturday setting chokers about 40 ft up on a group of beautiful white oaks that we’re chasing the neighboring lands sunshine. Got a good workout running back and forth to the 225 winching , but a very successful day. Rain came in hard Sunday to a stacked deck. Side note one of the new Husqvarna (titanium x-cut ) bars began to split and delaminated up near the tip. Coming back around 3 inches from the tip. These bars are being manufactured for Husqvarna by Tsunami (aka I like sushi ). Monday I went to our Husqvarna dealer to stock up on supplies ( 28 xcut chains were 21 bucks a piece and bar oil was under 50 a case yay ) and they replaced the bar immediately. We are very fortunate in central Va to have a great saw shop that supports our Husqvarna habit and keeps us productive. Thanks for the content.
That’s all awesome man. I had a 225e running in the woods for a lot of years. I’m not a fan of lightweight bars personally but it’s great that they stood by their product. That’s 10 bucks a chain cheaper then I get x cut, but I’m now getting stihl chain for 25 bucks a loop.
I do know that you can have the Great Veneer Logs with my Help. After that I am the Clean up Crew with the Wood left behind for Firewood. That would be a great set up Buddy. I congratulate you on just Shy of 10 Thousand Subscribers. Great Video as always. Ron from the Woodyard in Duanesburg NY.
That was fun, interesting was my last load ended up will around 3000bf of "unexpected' veneer. AND I lost almost nothing on the butt with my goofy way of felling as well. Enjoy this channel u have created. Thank you for sharing.
I still like your style in front of and before the camera. I’ve watched all your videos from the beginning. I can honestly say that I only had minor issues twice (and I mean MINOR!). Your cling to privacy is perhaps greater than my own. I will say this, were I 40 years younger, I would enjoy working on your crew. Have a merry one, son.
My family logs those things in Oklahoma. Hauls them to different mills in Missouri. Halls at night and way heavy. 50 foot drop deck triple axle trailers. They load five huge bunks of logs. Probably hauling 10,000 board feet give or take at a time. Sometimes they’re loads can be upwards of $20,000
I’m loving your content man. Full of good information. thanks for the vids and congratulations on 10,000. well deserved! It would be cool if you would share and maybe you have already, some of the what goes into the sales process. Thanks again.
nice clear walnut, I see why you need to cut them low, valuable scale. The trunk is also called the “bole” of a tree. In the NW we call veneer logs “peelers” or “slicers” . your technique is
I sharpen as needed, but I would say after every other tree is average. I like my teeth to be similar in shape to stock. I like stihl 33rs chain the most.
@@Good.Fellers yeah, I’m thinking my uncles would sell that bottom log for three or four or $5000. I’m telling you, they sell them for a lot of money. The walnut comes out of Oklahoma. I think they sell a lot for Henry rifles stocks
@@Good.Fellers it’s different here in Oklahoma also because logging is not really a thing. My family buys the trees off of Farmers and they have no idea what they’re even selling. They may tell them you have 15 loads worth of wood that we want and we will give you maybe $500 per load. They have no idea that just one tree on there are hundreds of acres may be worth thousands and thousands of dollars. They cut mainly walnut off of the creeks and cottonwood off of the rivers. The Cottonwood brings pretty substantial money when hauled to Texas
@@theallaroundguy2399 I don't know where the good fellers are but Id guaranty he's somewhere between Iowa and Ohio by the quality of the logs hes cutting. There are some big walnut in Oklahoma but it's definitely not a high dollar veneer region and would not have logs close to the value of the logs in the video. What veneer comes out of there is average at best.
@@Good.Fellers I find myself tryin to cut up man to not get depressed as the 19th makes 6yrs moms been gone and I’ve set up here alone after takin care of dad 1yr 7 more mons after her…cancer got em both son…and always have them around from birth to just be gone along with the ex and her 2 that was like mine within 2yrs made me man up even more to take care of what they worked for and ended up not gettin to enjoy the new house…so all I can do is wish you a good one brother…and know I mean that…🙏🏻
The good thing is that for every one giant Walnut tree (that took how long to grow?), there are 1000 that you don’t cut down……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….right?
@@Good.Fellers One of interest (regarding how veneers are chosen/made) and one of off-colored/dry humor, regarding a side-bar concern that I didn’t anticipate, in regards to just how many of these trees are being cut down. In other words, I’m not a tree-hugger (no pun intended), nor a hypocrite as a carpenter and owner of fine musical interests. But, you have 17K+ subscribers (congrats on that, btw). While watching this, otherwise very interesting video, I had a vision of 17K people all with the ambition of heading to their local forest to cut down giant trees that took decades to grow, with virtually none of them doing anything to help replant these trees (like these logging companies do in the areas they “harvest”). Hopefully, that made a little better sense. In short, great video, very interesting, but yes….I do have a concern for sustainability. 👍
@phillamoore157 I have a lot to say on this subject but I don’t have time to get into it now. I will perhaps do a video on sustainability of the hardwood timber business in the future. I will say this the logger isn’t killing the tree population it’s the Farmer, Developers, and politicians that are clearing the land.
My son and I really enjoy your channel and that jd dozer. You are a very non-bs and knowledgeable logger! Thanks!
Glad you’re enjoying it!

How thin can/do they make veneer?

Thinking about selling a similar size tree with a 51in trunk for 250$ in ohio. I have to cut it down but buyer is picking up. Is that fair price?
I paid over 10 times that for the tree in this video standing.
nice logs
Thank you!
How much do you think you would sell the logs in that tree for?
I know what I sold it for and I’m not gonna say on the internet. But I can tell you when I sell logs they don’t get resold. I sell to end users.
