- Rotating as a thief in GW2 PvP is not a simple task, but often people overcomplicate it. Your job is to get kills for your team. If you can't then you create situations where you can isolate targets to make them more vulnerable. That is the hard part. Don't be a decap bot though.

I really loved this video for a few reasons. For one, it's so nice to have a more in-depth PvP video that's not just a basic build guide. Second, this was really validating as someone who has gotten sick of getting randoms blaming losses on the thief because the far point wasn't decapped at every possible moment. Finally, I just really loved seeing some D/D thief gameplay, which isn't something I've seen in **years**.
Would love to see more rotation discussion or even just some more match analysis in general. Currently, I'm playing power herald a lot, so my vote for class/build would be for that, in particular.
the worst thing about gw2 is the pvp playerbase. jesus they really need to stfu if they dont have anything constructive to say.
So refreshing to see someone highly praised in the thief community say, "You're not a support. You're not just here to decap." When in literally every match I play if I'm not only decapping some rando yells at me.
Thief is about progressing the map, not just decapping.
Hey Vallun, you said DP Daredevil isn't really a thief build and is op. So as a new player with thief as my main what build should be practicing/playing?

since you're going full thief mode... can you make a video that explains how not to be initiative starved all the time? I mean, yeah, don't spam HS would be one thing, duh... but I find myself often times in figths where I know what I want to do, but lack initiative to do so, especially as a core condi thief. As DD I use my skills and then almost die because I don't have enough initiative to restealth, which means I have to play with blinding power on every build. Also my stealth "feels" always so short. When playing vs enemy thieves they seem to have always stealth when they want it and for like forever. And yes, I know the basic black power + 4x HS stealth combo, but still... I also went that far to play with bound instead of dash, just so I can blast black powder with my dodge, because I have no initiative left for bp + hs...
My problem is not so much the theory behind it, but rather the execution and my (too hectic) playstyle.
your issue is you rely too much on stealth. Use stealth not as a passive thing but as an active thing. Travel around the map not in stealth unless you specifically know that being in stealth will disrupt your opponents rotations. Rely more on your ability to avoid the enemy through positioning and dodges rather than stealth.
Why do you jump before shortbow5?
The projectile travels further away in some specific cases. When using SB5 you are ported at the moment the arrow hits the floor, if your distance to the ground is bigger (by jumping), your projectile travels for longer. It also prevents your arrow to hit some obstacles in its way to the location you're aiming it, so it's a "healthy" practice to jump before firing it. I started doing this to the point I don't even think about it anymore, everytime I use SB5 my muscle memory presses the jump key at the moment I'm firing it. You'll feel the same thing in no time, believe me.
This works for any projectile skill (like Pistol 3 and 4), I believe, not only SB5. An example: there are times your opponents hide behind boxes that, if you use a skill without jumping the projectile hits the box failing to hit your target, while if you use the skill while jumping it actually hits its target because the angle gets better. Therefore, it is always better to jump vs not to jump when firing a projectile.

Decap bot strats are pretty effective when your team is dead and you need to stop the bleeding until they're back up. I've won at least a few games by buying time like that when my team has wiped.
yes i even decap in this match when my team wipes, but when they arent wiping and you go to decap THEN they start wiping its not that youre decapping because theyre wiping, theyre wiping because you went to decap

you pretty much answered your question. The playstyle of d/p and s/d are very much the same. Mechanically they are quite different but yes you play S/D vs more tanky comps. I am not planning on doing an SD video any time soon, but it is always possible

When i actually perform poorly no one says shit. When I am solely responsible for the teams progress I get shit talked.
Just oddly selective toxicity towards thief I will never be able to fully explain.
