Selaginella lepiophylla aka the false rose of Jericho or the dinosaur plant, is one of a kind!
Add a shallow amount of distilled water to a bowl and watch it come to life. They do enjoy sunlight to grow so keep it near a window (no direct sun or it can burn the fronds) and prune back any yellowing fronds as it grows to maintain it.
Once a month, let it dry out completely to avoid rot and if you no longer want to have it out, you can let it dehydrate and roll back up. This process of drying and watering can be done for up to 7 years!

The gene that causes the plant to be able to do that is actually in all plants, it’s just usually when they’re in the seed stage. There’s a woman who’s studying this and trying to make all plants (or at least with our food) be able to do this beyond the seed stage! So cool!

Had one of these in elementary school. Took it to school and my teacher let me keep it in the classroom (he had a lot of weird stuff) since I couldn’t keep it at home. Over Christmas break, I left a note that said “I’m not dead.” By the plant because I knew that no one would be there to water it. Came back after the break to find the note and the plant gone. Turns out, the janitor thought it was just some kids trying to hide a dead plant as a joke and threw it away. RIP Jim the Immortal.

they're said to bring good luck to a household if they were given it as a gift!
So if you know anyone that recently moved or will move they're definitely a good gift option!
    Further things to know:
be sure to not water it too much though. after opening and being open for a while they need to fully dry and rest for a few months before you should let them open again.
Hot water makes them open quicker than cold water

Plant-Parent is a marketing term. It derived from the similar term Pet-parent. Companies used to just say pet owner, but through market research realized that their customers would spend more money if they made them feel like the animal's parent, as opposed to just a caretaker. It's manipulation 101.

It is really cool. It's also a good example of people giving meaning to things just because they don't understand how it works.
Plants that look dead but turn green are magical and indicate prosperity 🤷🤦
It's fine but it also works in bad ways. Like when they thought children with birth defects were evil simply based on how they looked and would leave them outside to be taken back by the evil spirits that made them.

In the past, women in Turkiye used this plant to give birth easily, but today there are still people who do this. Before the birth begins, they put it in water and leave it by the woman's bedside. As the flower blooms, the woman relaxes and gives birth easily.

      @ipaqmaster ...?
They're just discussing the meaning other people have associated with the plant.
Like how dare they explain the cultural significance in addition to the plants physical ability, making a clear distinction between what is fact and what is belief...

Plot twist: in this state they are considered dead because they can't reproduce anymore. All this does is opening because the cells still soak up water like a sponge.

these plants are ANCIENT. like, before-the-dinosaurs ancient. before-flowers-evolved ancient. before-plants-evolved-VEINS-ancient. Absolutely amazing survival technique that's helped them survive for hundreds of millions of years. 😊

Brooo I swear I saw something just like this in a dream a few years back. The plant was originally the pet creature of this guy named Sokka but something happened and it turned into a dead potted plant, but we submerged it in like a barrel of water and the plant came back to life just like this video

While they will revive in water, they need humid soil and semishade to thrive. If you wonder why yours keep dying, it is because you keep them in water all the time. These plants are adapted to survive long periods of drought, they are not adapted to sustain aquatic life for long periods of time.
