    Awesome review, clear and concise. I’ve waded through many EVO 4.2 reviews which were good sometimes, but yet a bit salesy or focused on comparisons to the point of missing the meat and potatoes of the EVO. Yours was the most understandable across the speaker’s features and capabilities. Thank you!!

    Nice video - I’ve been really intrigued by these speakers, and it’s nice to hear they pair well with the Cambridge Audio CXA81, as that is the amp I currently own. I could see these becoming a part of my stereo setup in December

    Dear. I would like to ask if these speakers can be used correctly with amplifier MARANZ PM8006 which supplied 70 W on 8 ohm. Thank you

      I think so. i haven’t heard the marantz but these speakers ran very well off a cxa81 which has 80watts.

    Where did you get the sensitivity value from? Not that these are a hard speaker to drive, but Wharfedale quote them at 87dB sensitivity, not 90dB. This is direct from the Wharfedale website (Australian one for me). Sensitivity (2.83V @ 1M ) = 87dB
    Don't let that detract from my enjoyment of your review though. It's a great review. Some rooms work better with a bookshelf speaker on a stand than the full floor mount speakers, but I understand why you'd say might as well get the floor mounts. My situation is such that the floor mounts would not work, but the stand mount does.
    You can get other stands at lower prices that work really well also, just be aware the Evo 4.2's are a large Bookshelf / Stand mount speaker

    I have the evo 4.2’s with the Cxa81 and cxnv2 streamer.the trouble with these speakers you need to be in the sweet spot.keep your ears level with the tweeter and you will get all the treble you want but lower your head down,and you will loose that treble.i also stream using Qobuz hi res files and they sound great on this setup..

      This is exactly my experience with them. I’m running them with the NAD Masters M10v2. They sound amazing, but there’s one spot I have to stay in to really experience how remarkable they are.

      Okay, so they are then basically pretty much useless in a studio where one alternates between sitting and standing positions during the day and at nights, as all health-conscious humans these days should be doing. Dang.... ding-a-dong.

    Hi, what is actual size of the woofers? The official specs are 6.5 inch but many reviewers state that they are less than 6 inch.

    • @0102studio

      6.5” woofer.

    • @kimmidgley5525
      @kimmidgley5525 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you measure with a ruler from the inside edge of the surround on one side to the outside edge of the surround on the other (so actually about midway through the surround on each side) it's 114mm. So I would say the actual moving part of the woofer would be 5 inches (being generous).

    • @sourav0vlsi
      @sourav0vlsi ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@kimmidgley5525 You mean the diameter of the diaphragm is 114 mm. I guess it will be close to 130 mm including the rubber suspension. But no way it's a 6.5" woofer.🙃

    • @kimmidgley5525
      @kimmidgley5525 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@sourav0vlsi Yes I went and measured edge to edge (right to the point the surround is glued down) is 128mm and maybe they could claim 130mm.

    • @frankfarago2825
      @frankfarago2825 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The actualy moving membrane part of woofer is around 5.5 inch in diameter. Ands that is being generous. Measure the membrane yourself in the store, then you'll see. How can you trust Wharfedale for ANYTHING when they calmly claim in their specs that this thing has a 6.5-inch driver?

      @@0102studio the effect is most prominent after medium loud volumes. The two ways tend to stall out by compare. That is, saturate and sound more closed in. Smaller, in effect.

      Same! Large 3 ways are the way to go if you want the imaging and precision of a great 2 way, and the full spectrum dynamics and room filling sound of a floorstander.

    Is the sweet spot really that small? Your ears on same height with tweeter it doesnt matter that much where you sit? But once standing on your feet to walk, does the sound really change that much? I dont want a speaker where I need to sit on the same damn spot everytime, especially when invited friends are in the place, we ALL want to hear the sound well...

      @@Taurius2 Hi man. I've the 4.2 a few months now, and since a few weeks also the 4c (centerspeaker).
      To be honest, it seems a little dependent on the song youre playing is my thought right now. But when I stand up, in a lot cases the treble/midrange is going more to the background. I think almost every speaker will have it more or less, but because of the ribbon tweeter which is bad off axis in general I've read, its more noticable than my much older quadral qlx 180 with dome(?) tweeter it seems.
      But I havent done a 1 vs 1 comparison in the same room. Because I did a lot of research and got to know the things you can judge a speaker on, makes me a lot more critical than I was. I havent a lot to compare to, but like most reviewers complain about it, I also noticed and properbly more than the average dome tweeters.
      But most people wont really notice I guess, however its defintely hearable some frequencys go more to the background. For party speakers in a big room with lot of movement I guess its better to look for another speaker, but these are definetly good speakers.
      In a living room with tv it proberbly isnt a big thing for most people like my situation.

    These babies can get holographic and wonderfully transparent with the right gear, I know I own them. These compare with my way higher priced B&W 805's and in the sweet spot have more detail and slam. My B&W 602 s3's come nowhere close to the 4.2's.

  • @frankfarago2825

    A paltry 2-inch mid & a 5.5-inch low driver/membrane. Small. Way too small for any sort of a "big sound" expectation, IMO. And yes, the cabinet looks too skinny. It's sort of like a tower -- with its bottom part sawed-off. Nopie-dokie, thanks, Wharfedaleowski. I rather pay a little more and get somehting larger and more reassuring looking.
