I’m such a “tidy” gardener (every plant in its place) that sometimes I forget the charm volunteer wildflowers bring. I’m learning to let plants tell you where they want to be. Oh, your greenhouse makes me want to cry. Texas gardening can be heartbreaking at times:( You have the right attitude though...you can't let it beat you! It might make way for transition and new inspiration! On a different note, all of your plants and landscaping look beautiful! I especially love all of your colorful bee balm and pops of yellow throughout!
You’re so right on just sticking with it. July and august are usually my struggle months but these storms set it in motion early. I’m in central Texas too. Parts are now considered zone 9a with the recent zone updates. American Beauty Berries can get pretty big, but make a wonderful addition! Love your update!

I am working on the native butterfly garden that I put in at my old summer camp in Navasota, Texas this week, and I planted a couple of things (even though it’s June!) That I saw in your garden and chose for this one. Goodness, I knew that hailstorm was horrible, and I saw your last video, but seeing it again in a little clip in this video, just makes my heart stop all over again. I would have burst into tears! I would have been like that meme of the dog just holding a coffee cup, and saying, “everything is fine” when it is completely surrounded by fire. Everything has bounced back so beautifully, I can hardly believe that was just a few weeks ago! I just put a video up this week and in the heat of the moment, got the name of your TH-cam channel wrong when I mentioned it. Good morning 🌞 Thank you for the tour. I am a little north of you, and yes, all that water really reeked havoc on my new natives too. Many are yellow at the base, ans some just drowned. I have had to dig a long trench to get the mini lake to drain. Also have brought in 4 cubic yards of compost to build things up…it has been a teaching of my garden with all these storms. Sorry to see you lost your green house. But looking forward to a new season of how your garden will evolve!

If you pull the bloom off the Turks Cap, you can suck the nectar from the end. It is sweet, like honey. My grandson waits for them to bloom each year to steal the honey from the bees. Your garden is beautiful. You have some wonderful Texas plants.
So happy the plants survived! You seem to gravitate towards yellow, and I find myself always with pinks and purples lol I immediately went to look for the Bulbine just to learn deer love them ... ugh Ugh... your green house! 😖 sad, but.... we never give up!

It sure has! I know I got off easy. I heard folks were without power for days in Houston. We also had a couple of tornadoes east of the county. I hope your garden is recovering well. I’m currently using a hardwood mulch I usually buy by the yard from my landscape supplier.
I primarily just pull weeds after a rain or use my weed torch along my granite pathway/garden area. I haven’t been a huge fan of weed barrier as i feel it negatively interferes with water/soil management.

I understand the Mexican mint marigold is used for cooking and tastes like tarragon. I’ve yet to try it but it sure is pretty 😍

I have Peter’s Purple and the color is super vivid, been wanting bee balm forever.
