I’ve heard of an HSH….but what kind of pickup begins with ‘T’? Besides, the only pink Strats i saw were either single- or dual-humbucker…with no middle pickups.
Thank you for using the Katana with these guitars! It drives me nuts when people demo more budget range guitars through high end tube amps. This would be the actual setup and sound for most people (minus the amazing skills of Danish Pete, of course!)
That’s a good point as we are programmed to change pickups but why if they sound good? Rich Menga on TH-cam loves the ceramic Squier pickups….at least the Affinity ones and these maybe the same.
I bought a JV Squier Sunburst Strat (maple neck) from Magnum Sound in Wishaw, Scotland way back in 1983. Cost about £189 and paid for it in instalments. I still have it. Can't believe how much it is worth now!
I turned 40 in Feb.. I love all things Japan, so was looking out for an 83 JV. It's crazy how much they're going for now!! I almost splurged on one whose neck was dated 4 days after I was born.. too bad I'm not rich hahah :P
To me Squier is a lot more fun and interesting than plain Fender. Plus you don't mind changing pickups, the neck or other hardware if you get a pretty body in a nice color.
All of the Sonic Strats share the same two bodies and either the maple or laurel neck. Trem or hard tail body. You can buy ANY Strat in the series and mod it with a single humbucker or whatever pick guard you desire as ALL of these are routed exactly the same with room for a humbucker bridge. You could even do two P90s in these. Just pick your color, neck, trem combo and mod away. Additionally… The bodies are slightly thinner. Just use the stock screws if you bolt on a fender neck. The American necks bolt right on to these bodies and Mexican full size trems do fit fine.
I got mine two days ago. The hss strat coral color. A wonderful guitar that really sings ❤. The only thing that is cheap is the plastic nut. The rest is really nice done.
@@lawyerbt I did consider trying to sell my wife on that idea. My wife does like short-scale basses, but she thinks we have too many instruments in the house. They don’t really take up much space though, right?

A lot of wives always think there's too many instruments in the house, but they think differently when it comes to purses or high heels. If you don't want to risk a rift with your wife you could either (a) keep it at a buddy's or a relative's house, or (b) wait until your daughter turns six and then score a good used one, as there should be plenty on the used market by then.
Also, Pete, you could definitely get a job with British Airways....the way you point at items on the guitar is just like the guidance to find your nearest exit for the plane😀
In their final comments they talk about how it's a great value guitar for children just starting out on guitar. But most of the people commenting here are adults, and several comments illustrate that some people will always be children: show them something shiny, new, and brightly colored and their eyes get big and immediately you hear "I want one." Then they buy one and soon realize it has the same cheap pickups and tuners as Squier Bullets, and shortly thereafter they focus on a different guitar in another color, and this one goes to the corner and starts gathering dust, similar to a discarded toy. If someone reading this happens to be a first time guitarist I make three recommendations: (1) you always get a better value buying a good used guitar, but if you're insisting on only buying new then consider these but not without playing the entry level offerings from Epiphone and Ibanez which you may like better, (2) never buy a guitar based on appearance, videos or recommendations without actually playing the guitar first, (3) your choice of amplifier is going to make a huge difference in sound, so at a minimum don't even look at the Fender Frontman, but consider a Mustang LT25 instead
This is such an upgrade from the Bullet series seeing as you get trems on the strats now and cool colors! I’m a huge mustang fan and I’m glad they kept the mustang in the range! The base level squiers are some of my favorite guitars. They always take me back to the early days, before I was a high end guitar connoisseur 😎
@BulkHogan in America most of these models are $199 I believe which is exactly what, if not cheaper than the bullet series sold for. Most bullets were $189-$219 USD. I’m sure like most brands they’ll let them sit on the market for a while and then increase the price 10% or so once they’re established and in stores
It would be very interesting how good a Squier Sonic would sound with a Fender Vintera Pick up Set in it. And if you would try it, the new pure vintage 57 and 61 Sets would be also great to hear with it. That could make it an awesome 50 or 60s Squier for about 300 bucks.

When I was just starting out - circa 1987 - Squier was what parents bought their kids just to shut them up about a guitar. They were cheap, plywood garbage. My how times have changed. Today’s Squier is an amazing value for that price. Way to go Fender. Love those colors too. Why can’t the American or Mexican Fenders have cool colors like this?
@Andertons, I just ordered that gorgeous Tahitian Coral HSS Strat, from a US retailer, to use as a mod platform for my version of a Superstrat. Wanted something light enough to travel. Going to get a different color pickguard, and swap for a SSS setup, with a Dimarzio Sugar Chakra in the Bridge position. Usually play Les Pauls so will take getting used to. On the point about the amps, Orange makes some good entry level amps, with nice cleans and great crunch/heavy tones, that would pair well with this line, if the Katana sound isn't your thing(It's not mine, though I did consider it before I picked up an Orange Crush 35RT).
Can’t understand the moaning on colours and naming of the series, that California blue tele is so nice, I only have one minor criticism is string through would have been great but still sounds great top loaded. It’s good that you can spend £150 on a guitar and if that’s doesn’t satisfy you move up and spend as much as you want there is something for everyone these days and that’s great
I would love to see a Squier range that's at the build level of Classic Vibe with alnico pickups, but standard modern takes. Maybe they think doing that would eat into the Mexican player series? because the Vintera are quite a bit more in price.
Completely agree with this. Sadly/expectantly the build quality of the cheap squier stuff is seriously poor. I had a classic vibe mustang did a few upgrades it’s on par or it not better than a vintera now but cost less overall. I purchased a bullet mustang when they came out and had to have the neck shimmed before it was even playable.

@@Misledband Shimming the neck is standard practice on any Fender without microtilt. Always has been. They came out the factory with sandpaper in the neck pocket in the 1950s and you don't hear too many complaining about those guitars.
This is an amazing series, and I don't agree with some of the other commenters that this is just another Squier series. You can now get a lightweight and comfortably shaped Strat with narrow tall (Yesss!) fingertip friendly frets, maple fretboard for easier bends, tone flexible HSS setup, plus with or without a hardtail bridge. And - unlike the Classic Vibe series - the Sonics *don't* have those vintage style split shaft tuning machines, which can cause issues with thin strings slipping out (Sorry, Pete. Not everybody play 10s... 😄). Something a new player might consider trying for easier bends and less strain on soft finger tips. And (2nd continuation 'and' here... 🤦) they don't cost more than the old bullet series, where the Strats didn't have narrow tall frets. Lovely colors as well. Basically just the perfect beginner guitars IMO. I'm seriously struggling to find something to complain about. I might unironically want to buy one of those HSS coral coloured Strats with a maple fretboard... 😍 (For science, obviously... 😉)
The older bullet run had zero with a tremolo. I know the correct way to setup a six screw trem like a fully floating trem and functions as good as any 2 point and stays in tune just as well, there are 3 things you have to consider if interested. I don’t hate but I don’t like unfinished maple necks prefer the rosewood/Laurel instead but the cool colors are all maple.
I hate the term "beginner guitar"! Seriously! I have been playing for 40 years, have a Squier Tele and a Squier Strat, both guitars hold their own against Fender "pro guitars" from stock! My Tele has had some handwound custom pickups installed, 4 way switch, tusq nut, and it is now, to me, better than any Fender Tele I have ever played! Just because its "cheap" doesn´t make it a "beginner guitar"!
@@rexrathtar3893 Oddly enough, I didn´t use custom wound pickups as an argument, just what I decided to do. They are affordable guitars yes, beginner is just bullshit! Plenty of videos on TH-cam of Squier guitars being gigged! I suppose Epiphone make "beginner guitars" too? Far too much snobbery over brands! Squier make excellent guitars and if, like me, you want to mod it, go for it, why not! My mate gigged a Bullet Strat for years as a pro player! With a set up they are as good as any Fender.
Fender has done a good thing with these guitars such as the Sonic Mustang. They have a good vibe on their own. They seem to have an "early Fender vibe to them.
looking at the other options on your site the purple tele, blue strat, candy red tele etc definately look better contrasted with the black pickguard... But in usual squire fashion theres only one lefty and its black with a white pickguard lol
to all my other fellow left-handed players in the comment section, don’t hold your breath waiting for a lefty version of this or any other fender or Squier guitars, they haven’t updated their lefty models in probably 10 years or so and I’m talking about giving us a HSS or HH pickup configuration,I personally recommend checking out schecter guitars and Kiesel two of the most lefty friendly companies going right now, and the most bang for your buck guitars in my opinion
@@anthonycutt8854 yeah Ibanez are really good guitars as well. I think they make 6 to 7 left-handed models at various price points and pick up configurations, which is a lot more than I can save for a fender, and even Charvel,and they just released the new Nita Strauss signature in a left-handed version
Well, I suddenly own two. That's my FCS in the pic. Guitar snobs may not like it, but they are great platforms to upgrade. Be sparing with fingerboard oils! Laurel soaks it up. Do NOT saturate your fretboard.
I feel that they use Pao Ferro on the players simply to make people desire the American series more. And most players don’t know or notice until after purchase how ugly and orange it can be. Laurel is a better wood choice than poo Ferro all around and it takes oil nicely. My Squier Sonic is 2 mo old and the Laurel already looks like ebony after oiling it. You do need to polish the frets on the sonic series. They’re nice narrow tall frets but didn’t get that last level of human touch. I also rolled the edges and used 3000 grit to sand the back. Feels like any good Fender neck should now.
In the last vid I saw Pete made fun of himself for playing the same stuff all the time. He came in with some new riffs this time, except for the Mayer, and the captain called him on it He is a great player. Nice affordable guitars too.
You really can’t beat them for the price. I would like to see the maple neck and fret board with the fiesta red body. Not overly keen on the Tahitian Coral. Wouldn’t it be nice if you could choose the combo you like, rather than go solely on what they provide. A little more cost to provide that option, of course, but I would be willing.
Does the fretboard have a finish? Unfinished maple is a nightmare a finished board is so easily to clean with a soapy rag then dry, no damage no worry.
All of the Mustang Sonics I've been able to find online are SS. Kinda wish you had shown that one off instead the HH. I already have a Bullet Mustang HH (though I swapped the HH out for P90s.)
I began to learn the guitare 17 years ago, when I was 13. I asked my parents a bundle for Christmas or my birthday I think it was. The guitar was about the same price these guitares are, but it sounded terrible. I still managed to learn with it, because I just love this instrument, but really, it sounded terrible. And now, beginners can pick one of these amazing guitare, fur such an AMAZING value for money. This is incredible. I wish I was 13 in today's time just for this. Beginners, you are spoiled today! Theses guitares are amazing, these are the ones I would recommend to a beginner. Squier now makes incredible guitares for such a low price ! Really, it sounds as good as an entry-level MX Fender. Sometimes even better it seems!!! Congrats Squier, and beginners, don't think twice, this is definitely the best guitares for you. Don't spend more than 300 euros/pounds on an instrument you're not sure yet you're going to stick to, particularly when you can get such good quality instrument for such a low price these days! Although this is not at all my favorite guitare (just because it's too common and it seems that everyone play with these guitare), I would recommend a Stratocaster for beginners. As I said, this is the most common guitare, so lot of resources about it, and it is very versatile. This is not only for "metal" or hardcore rock, but I've also seen very good covers of Hallelujah by Jeff Buckley played on a Stratocaster. The Mustang seems to be also a good option as the neck is a little bit smaller, a thus it makes playing difficult chords on which you must stretch your hand very far, easier to play.
Yes Squiers are Fender spec but Harley Benton is great right out of the box no mods needed, of course I’m referring to the Squiers and HB of the same budget…
As a left handed guitarist, after many years of paying more for being offered less choice and only the cheap colours option, I refuse to patronise any company that throws me the scraps from the table. It’s going to be Sire only for me from now on, Squire can do one!
We got what we always get - a black strat. 8 models, all with at least 2 colour options, and we get a single black strat. Guess we'll just go F ourselves. 🙄
If left-handed players spent as much time buying new guitars as they do moaning about the lack of choice, there wouldn’t be a lack of choice in the first place.
Fender must have something against regular, sss, string-through Stratocasters. Even the Bullet Telecasters were string-through. All of the recent Fender and Squier Stratocaster HTs of the string-through variety, have been limited and/or exclusive runs, signature series, or so far out into left field that I am not interested. Perhaps it is artificial scarcity.
ALL Sonic bodies are routed for three pickups. HSH. Just drop in any Fender 11 hole (late 1963 and newer) guard and it’ll line right up. You can actually use 54-63 guards too but you’ll have to make a couple hole changes. No big deal. The thinner body is only a hair thinner off the back side. Everything is still vintage Fender spec other than the narrow trem spacing
That pink HTH Strat is just a Hello Kitty Strat without paying $800
That and the black single-humbucker hardtails are not Tom Delonge Strats, but they’re close enough to be fun. EDIT: Lee just pointed that out 😂
A PRS is $3200 and you don’t have to think about Hello Kitty at all. Worth it if you ask me. That’s value for money.

These seem a good fit for me. I'm 5'2" and have difficulty playing guitars with thicker bodies. They sound pretty good.
Mustangs are really great for players that don't have gigantic hands too, you can do the stretches and chords a lot easier.

I love top-loading guitars, they have lower string tension and are lovely and slinky to play. That is of course if you like guitars like that!

I upgraded a Bullet with a pro-grade Alnico V prewired pickguard.
Looking forward to buying the pink HH mustang for my daughter. Even if she doesnt stick with it, i still have a neat HH mustang 😊

If you want a HSS Strat you're better off taking some extra shifts on your paper round and get a Pacifica.

And (2nd continuation 'and' here... 🤦) they don't cost more than the old bullet series, where the Strats didn't have narrow tall frets. Lovely colors as well. Basically just the perfect beginner guitars IMO. I'm seriously struggling to find something to complain about.
I might unironically want to buy one of those HSS coral coloured Strats with a maple fretboard... 😍 (For science, obviously... 😉)
The older bullet run had zero with a tremolo. I know the correct way to setup a six screw trem like a fully floating trem and functions as good as any 2 point and stays in tune just as well, there are 3 things you have to consider if interested. I don’t hate but I don’t like unfinished maple necks prefer the rosewood/Laurel instead but the cool colors are all maple.
I hate the term "beginner guitar"! Seriously! I have been playing for 40 years, have a Squier Tele and a Squier Strat, both guitars hold their own against Fender "pro guitars" from stock! My Tele has had some handwound custom pickups installed, 4 way switch, tusq nut, and it is now, to me, better than any Fender Tele I have ever played! Just because its "cheap" doesn´t make it a "beginner guitar"!
@@rexrathtar3893 Oddly enough, I didn´t use custom wound pickups as an argument, just what I decided to do. They are affordable guitars yes, beginner is just bullshit! Plenty of videos on TH-cam of Squier guitars being gigged! I suppose Epiphone make "beginner guitars" too? Far too much snobbery over brands! Squier make excellent guitars and if, like me, you want to mod it, go for it, why not! My mate gigged a Bullet Strat for years as a pro player! With a set up they are as good as any Fender.
Fender has done a good thing with these guitars such as the Sonic Mustang. They have a good vibe on their own. They seem to have an "early Fender vibe to them.

They have pretty good sounding pickups! I sometimes play my daughter’s 2010 bullet strat and it sounds really good.
looking at the other options on your site the purple tele, blue strat, candy red tele etc definately look better contrasted with the black pickguard...
But in usual squire fashion theres only one lefty and its black with a white pickguard lol

to all my other fellow left-handed players in the comment section, don’t hold your breath waiting for a lefty version of this or any other fender or Squier guitars, they haven’t updated their lefty models in probably 10 years or so and I’m talking about giving us a HSS or HH pickup configuration,I personally recommend checking out schecter guitars and Kiesel two of the most lefty friendly companies going right now, and the most bang for your buck guitars in my opinion

I think they make 6 to 7 left-handed models at various price points and pick up configurations, which is a lot more than I can save for a fender, and even Charvel,and they just released the new Nita Strauss signature in a left-handed version

Well, I suddenly own two. That's my FCS in the pic. Guitar snobs may not like it, but they are great platforms to upgrade.
Be sparing with fingerboard oils! Laurel soaks it up. Do NOT saturate your fretboard.
A massive choice of colours in left-handed - you can have black, or ... oh.
Those laurel fretboards look 100x better than what you can get in the player series.
I feel that they use Pao Ferro on the players simply to make people desire the American series more. And most players don’t know or notice until after purchase how ugly and orange it can be. Laurel is a better wood choice than poo Ferro all around and it takes oil nicely. My Squier Sonic is 2 mo old and the Laurel already looks like ebony after oiling it. You do need to polish the frets on the sonic series. They’re nice narrow tall frets but didn’t get that last level of human touch. I also rolled the edges and used 3000 grit to sand the back. Feels like any good Fender neck should now.

I’m not lefty, but considering they can easily pump out dozens of models, it’s pretty lame there aren’t more of these m&m colors for the sidewinders.
In the last vid I saw Pete made fun of himself for playing the same stuff all the time. He came in with some new riffs this time, except for the Mayer, and the captain called him on it He is a great player. Nice affordable guitars too.

You really can’t beat them for the price. I would like to see the maple neck and fret board with the fiesta red body. Not overly keen on the Tahitian Coral. Wouldn’t it be nice if you could choose the combo you like, rather than go solely on what they provide. A little more cost to provide that option, of course, but I would be willing.

Does the fretboard have a finish? Unfinished maple is a nightmare a finished board is so easily to clean with a soapy rag then dry, no damage no worry.
@@bluwngthey have ultra thin satin poly coats similar to a sanding sealer. You can actually hit these with fine sandpaper and they get super nice.

All of the Mustang Sonics I've been able to find online are SS. Kinda wish you had shown that one off instead the HH. I already have a Bullet Mustang HH (though I swapped the HH out for P90s.)

For less than £100 more Harley Benton have guitars with locking tuners, figured maple necks, coil splits and stainless steel frets. Just saying.....
These use standard fender specs. They’re a better mod platform if that’s your thing.

I began to learn the guitare 17 years ago, when I was 13. I asked my parents a bundle for Christmas or my birthday I think it was. The guitar was about the same price these guitares are, but it sounded terrible. I still managed to learn with it, because I just love this instrument, but really, it sounded terrible. And now, beginners can pick one of these amazing guitare, fur such an AMAZING value for money. This is incredible. I wish I was 13 in today's time just for this. Beginners, you are spoiled today! Theses guitares are amazing, these are the ones I would recommend to a beginner. Squier now makes incredible guitares for such a low price ! Really, it sounds as good as an entry-level MX Fender. Sometimes even better it seems!!! Congrats Squier, and beginners, don't think twice, this is definitely the best guitares for you. Don't spend more than 300 euros/pounds on an instrument you're not sure yet you're going to stick to, particularly when you can get such good quality instrument for such a low price these days! Although this is not at all my favorite guitare (just because it's too common and it seems that everyone play with these guitare), I would recommend a Stratocaster for beginners. As I said, this is the most common guitare, so lot of resources about it, and it is very versatile. This is not only for "metal" or hardcore rock, but I've also seen very good covers of Hallelujah by Jeff Buckley played on a Stratocaster. The Mustang seems to be also a good option as the neck is a little bit smaller, a thus it makes playing difficult chords on which you must stretch your hand very far, easier to play.
Harley Benton blows Squier away, more bang for your buck, you can get 2 HB for the price of one Squier!

Fender/Squier are the General Motors of guitars. You can buy a Chevy Spark all the way up to a Cadillac CTS.

Fender must have something against regular, sss, string-through Stratocasters. Even the Bullet Telecasters were string-through.
All of the recent Fender and Squier Stratocaster HTs of the string-through variety, have been limited and/or exclusive runs, signature series, or so far out into left field that I am not interested.
Perhaps it is artificial scarcity.

Pretty simple to swap in a loaded pickguard
ALL Sonic bodies are routed for three pickups. HSH. Just drop in any Fender 11 hole (late 1963 and newer) guard and it’ll line right up. You can actually use 54-63 guards too but you’ll have to make a couple hole changes. No big deal. The thinner body is only a hair thinner off the back side. Everything is still vintage Fender spec other than the narrow trem spacing

Call me crazy, but i love strats with those cheap ceramic puckups. It sounds so melow.
