Merci

Fantastic interpretation of a beautiful Jazz standard, composed almost a century ago (1929). There are two types of music: the good one, which lasts, no matter how much time passes, and the one you use and throw away, which is quickly forgotten. Jazz is obviously of the first type. The commercial rubbish that accounts for 99% of what is heard today on radio and television (at least in Spain), from the second.
Aurélie Tropez and Rita Payés prove to be two excellent instrumentalists, full of talent, technique and sensitivity, capable of transporting our spirit to seventh heaven. Absolutely wonderful. Aurélie I think he has reached a sublime maturity as a clarinetist. And Rita, as incredible as it may seem, was 18 years old when she recorded this. And she was already a figure of Jazz from four years before, when he shone in the Sant Andreu Jazz Band.
The accompaniment is also super luxurious: four figures who have been playing together for many years and are among the best Jazz musicians in Spain, especially Ignasi Terraza and Josep Traver, two true monsters. (The case of Terraza is really admirable, because he became blind at 9 years old, due to a degenerative eye disease, and then, without having studied any music before, he learned to play the piano, until he became what he is now. Incredible example of talent and overcoming).

Ah my mother's favorite piece I used to play her on my clarinet....Aurelie plays so beautifully, good round tone and so pleasant sound over all. Upper register is well controlled. Very expressive playing and fine technique. She has it all. My mother would be very pleased indeed!! Loved it. Nice trombone Rita. Great integration of all. So very well done! Nice big finish worthy of New Orleans.

Aurelie, such a beautiful clarinet solo. Love the low tones!
Wish Joan included the clarinet more often.
And Rita’s solo is great as usual. Very exciting to see her developing her own style.

Rita, wonderful solo, well thought out and executed. It is good to see you playing with Joan's group again. It is a very inspiring backing for your vocal and instrumental skills. I'm particularly excited to see you exploring more range of expression and sonority on the trombone at this point in your career. I've greatly enjoyed the evolution of your musical development over these year. Best wishes. Please know that I and I am sure other are rooting for your success and satisfaction.

Amazing work Aurelie... Lyrical.. So graceful.. & easily/ effortlessly rendered.. Like a new Anat Cohen, or Reminiscent of the skill of the great Paquito DRivera's early work.. My favorite of that era being, Brussels in the rain.. Written &. Played by the young Paco.. dedicated to the great Toots Thielemans, the harmonica jazz player from Brussels.. Listen to it!! Be shaped by its inventive lyricism.. And superb fluid improvisation.. With great Piano accompaniment..

    Wow……….no wait…….WOW!
Aurelie, that is some very, very fine clarinet expertise. I just discovered you and am blown away.
Been listening to clarinet players for more than 60 years and you are ‘running with the big dogs’, as the saying goes.
Absolutely love what you’re doing with your instrument.
I will search out your additional TH-cam appearance with great anticipation.

@@aurelietropez6213 Lovely to hear from you.
After watching some additional TH-cam clips of you-on which you were fabulous-I purchased some of your numbers from the Apple Store. It was late so I only previewed a couple but I will return to listen to more.
I just turned 74 and returned to the clarinet in earnest about 12 years ago. I played as a young man but drifted away, just dabbling the odd time. But I love the instrument and have acquired a Buffet R13 Greenline! I have my father’s Selmer RI, an instrument he bought in the ‘30’s. (Both my parents were musicians.) Also have a nice LeBlanc Rhapsodie. I practice and play 4-5 hours daily.
I listen (and learn) from lots and lots of clarinet players and like you have my favourites…….Goodman certainly among them.
And clearly you’ve been paying attention to the best of the best.
I’m in Toronto, Canada but if my wife and I can resume travel, I’d love to hear you perform live in France or wherever. You, Aurelie, are the real deal!
      Best regards!!!

Certainly not. If you went to jazz festivals as Marciac in France, you know there's lot of young people assisting concerts and the town is crowded by very young musicians, each of them playing a healthy jazz, modern or traditional. Jazz never was so much played worldly as it is now, the wast majority of musicians being young.
