  • Kia’s Sportage is one of the South Korean manufacturers models that has continued to grow in popularity over the years. From cheap-and-cheerful 4×4 to perfect family transport, this SUV has never stopped improving since it’s launch way back in 1993.
Today, it’s not only Kia’s best-selling model, but also the fifth best-selling car overall in the UK, with the fifth-generation Sportage, launched earlier in 2022, helping to boost this growth.
There’s no underestimating just what a step up this Sportage is compared to its predecessor. In the mainstream segment, it arguably has the best interior, offering loads of interior space and comparatively generous equipment levels.
Kia provides regular petrol and diesel powertrains in the Sportage lineup, with 48V mild-hybrid versions also included in the range. The 148bhp 1.6 T-GDi petrol unit is available with a six-speed manual gearbox, or a seven-speed DCT automatic transmission, while the 1.6 CRDi diesel is offered with a choice of outputs: a 113bhp version paired with the six-speed manual ‘box, or a 134bhp variant matched with the seven-speed automatic.
The Sportage comes with the same 7-year, 100,000 mile warranty cover as all the rest of Kia's cars.

Such a long intro I got that bored I nearly switched off. Trim it down a bit and get on with the real reason for the vlog.

I really loved my test drive in this car and really wanted this get the GT Line S version as my next Motability car. Unfortunately though they only do the GT Line version as an automatic on Motability and there is just too much kit missing on that model compared to the GT Line S for me to consider the lower model. So it’s looks like I’ll be going for the Ford Kuga ST Line X FHEV instead which is also a lovely car.

Hi - as British roads are getting worse and worse with potholes - would be useful to discuss how it deals with the reality we are facing more and more. Strangely, European models supply adaptive suspension ? why not UK.

The intro is a killer but the video itself is very informative. I'm waiting for the ISG 3 and I feel like I know everything about the car before I've even driven it, thanks to this vid.

Excellent review and one of the best of the many I’ve watched 👍. I actually have a GT LineS HEV 2wd on order. The only thing I would add is that you say there are 2 gearboxes on offer, in actual fact there are 3, there’s a full manual, a 7 speed DCT auto, and the HEV and PHEV models all come as standard with a normal 6 speed auto.

Very detailed I'm grateful to you, perfect explanation. The hybrid is where I will be going. This will be the make & model car I will be getting when my Volvo C30 2009 model dies on me, my current car has the CD disc player I will miss that when I go buy a new model vehicle I'm so gutted about that. That is what I will miss most.

Excellent review. A Big plus for me between Kia Sportage and Hyundai Tuscan, is the rear lane changing indicator. Its much higher than the Tuscan. Well done 🎉 Kia. I'll have a lot more friendly riders around me, knowing where I intend going. 😊

You don't get privacy glass on entry-level 2. Only on GT-line and up. Same with the dual climate/infotainment panel, and keyless entry/start/stop button. Electric seats are not on GT Line and up, but only on the top GT-Line S version. Re the panoramic roof, there's no such thing as "GT-Line S and above" because GT-Line S is the top spec.

Have had the GT Line S for about a month - many positive things which are covered here but will point out a few things to bear in mind from my personal experience.
    1) the screens are hard to use while moving as they are not physical buttons
    2) The accelerator pedal is too close to the drivers seat - I am a tall guy and can lay my left leg straight out yet my right has to bend to use accelerator.
    3) The front window takes an age to de-mist (I came from an ST3 with heated screens, but even then this car de-mists soooo slowly)
    4) DAB signal is poor and cuts off all the time
    5) The app for the car doesnt do much - updates should have you being able to warm up the car etc, otherwise its a fancy remote
    6) The remote park assist seems to be a gimmick, would have preferred self parking for the size of the car
    7) The paddles are so laborious - just leave in Eco
    8) It likes to correct you, it is always beeping, moving your wheel if you dont turn lane assist off for example
    9) The front seats have no thigh supports which I loved having in my previous car
However these are just niggles - it is such a complete motor that is nit picking and I could easilly make a list 40 times longer on the things I love about the it, but because I love the car and hold it to such high expectations these seem to stand out as obvious improvents and the app for example should be easy for KIA to deliver on current gen vehicles.

Great point about how easy it is to open the back doors nice and wide for the “old folks“ - but you missed the fact that on the back of the headrests, there’s actually a grip handle to help you get out of the car after you managed to get in easily - brilliant!

I have just had test drive of 225 bhp mild hybrid. Nice comfortable car, well equiped but engine needs to be buzzed to 5 K plus to get any significant power.Pitty it`s only 1600 cc,could do with larger capacity and a lot more torque, otherwise a nice car.Not for me I`m afraid.

The trunk can also be opened with the remote as you are walking back to the car you can press it/program it to open as you get closer to the🚗 and it programs in on the remote and it just opens so you can put your groceries stight in. The trunk can also be programed to3height levels so if your small you dont have to reach up high close the trunk.

Both are built on the same platform, and it’s really down to styling and personal preference. I prefer the Kia’s interior and ‘tech’, but I know some prefer the front end of the Tucson. All down to the individual.

Congratulations on your new car 😊 I've got mine since 8th July and I absolutely love it. Mine is petrol, manual and it is the lower trim cause the other one was too expensive for me; here in Portugal we just have two trims: Drive and Tech. We don't have GT. It has something to do with taxes and how expensive the cars would get. Anyway, I'm super happy with my Experience Green Kia after around 1200kms driving it. Wish you all the luck with yours 😊
