Love this. David Draiman"s voice is a musical instrument all by itself. But the sound you're hearing is called a pinch harmonic and it's most definitely made with the guitar by itself. No pedals, no bullshit.

Tom morello doesn’t even use pinch harmonics anyways.... However this is technique is difficult and was definitely produced from a guitar.

That noise you hear at 3:15 is called a pinch harmonic. A lot of rock/metal guitarists do it. Killswitch Engage are the masters of it and you should definitely check them out.

sigh, literally anything but DWTS. Every band has that one song that is literally the only thing casual listeners know about them, and it is almost never their best work. For Mudvayne its dig, for LP its in the end, and for Disturbed its DWTS. There are so so many stronger candidates here. You have Overburdened, Believe, Darkness, Prayer, The best ones lie etc etc etc. Not trying to be too aggressive here but its like telling someone who has never listened to the Eagles that Hotel California is the one song they just absolutely can't miss.

@@joshuaha7661 Bit needlessly hostile don't you think? It boils down to what your trying to accomplish recommending a song to someone. DWTS isn't terribly representative of distrubed in that era, or any other, even if it was their most popular. I'd rather recommend a song that is much closer to what makes me love the band in the first place. For me thats Prayer or Believe, but Meaning of Life too does a much better job representing the band than DWTS, even if its not the elements I'd emphasize.

I get what you're saying, if you're assuming the person in question is only going to listen to one song. In that case, no I wouldn't recommend Dwts, or Meaning of life.
Im just saying, it's the intro. Just like Smell likes teen spirit. The first song in a long list of others.
You also gotta remember, that Dwts doesn't sound as good to people like you and me because we've heard it a billion times. To a newcomer, it'll sound fresh and it's also not too overbearing. It's a simple song, so to speak. Kind of like "Inside The Fire", it's easy to digest.
Sorry for being a dick. I just don't think skipping the track completely is the way to go.

I think I get particularly sensitive with DWTS for Distrubed and Dig for Mudvayne because I feel like often I run into people who know a singular part of one of the two (you know exactly what I mean with DWTS) and write off bands that have so much complexity outside of that. For Mudvayne for instance I'd much rather people be lead in with Severed or World so Cold than Dig.
This is one of my personal favorites by them. The number one slot goes to Prayer, though. Good times.

Yep, the scratching sound is his guitar, Tom Morello of Rage Against the Machine is amazing at making his guitar sound like a turntable.
Great thing about David Draiman is that he is a classically trained singer. Also, as much as I love their original songs, they nail the cover songs they do. Songs like Shout, Land of Confusion, and of course Sounds of Silence. I think there are a couple more, but those are the ones I can think of at the top of my head.
That would be a great comparison series.

David Draiman's talent is certainly complimented by the band members of Disturbed. Please continue to check them out. Their songs: A Reason to Fight, Down With the Sickness, The Light, Through the Fire, and Hold on to Memories are amazing and I truly believe you would enjoy the diversity in each of them. They show the amazing talent this band possesses.
I dont think the white lady was doing black face. I've always thought that was supposed to be blood which would show up black in black and white photography/ film.
The whole dripping black ichor thing is a common motif in metal, and hell dark fantasy movies etc too. I figured he was joking, it looked like some gross guardians of the galaxy Ronan the Accuser looking stuff dripping from her hands.

Good song brother. That noise is made on the guitar. It's called a pinch harmonic. A good song to listen too with lots of pinch harmonics throughout is Omerta by Lamb of God.
Disturbed is such a versatile band. They did the Grammy nominated cover of The Sound of Silence. No one can deny the beauty in that song that shows David Draiman's vocal ability to touch your soul. But the other side of them has done songs to help humanity. "A Reason to Fight", the official live video that is to help prevent drug abuse, depression and suicide shows who and what this band is all about. Also "Hold on to Memories", the official live video to help with the loss of loved ones which is a BEAUTIFUL song. They can do it all.

David Draiman's chin piercings were called tusks, and getting older as we all do and becoming a dad, D.D. said he had grown past the tusks, so now they're gone. I miss them, they were unique.

The Vengeful One and Stupify.......... so many other great songs by Disturbed. You could do a Disturbed week if you wanted to. They are great in concert although their 2021 concert series was just cancelled and that stinks. I was all set to go to Chicago and had to cancel my trip Open this nation up and get concerts back on the docket!

The sound you thought was a DJ was in fact the guitar. It has to do with the way you hit the string with the pic and barely grazing your thumb across the string at the same time along with bending the string with your other hand. I play guitar and some of the sounds can be made by doing that and also by using effects pedals.
You have to listen to them in a live show my man. I recommend disturbed- never again live in iseal. It's a song about Jewish pride and the holocaust.
