  • This is in my opinion the best version of this recording from all of the CD's, figured I'd post it here (Audio clears up at 1:42)

    Soulful, poetic, beautifully vulnerable, timeless.
    He really poured his soul from somewhere deep inside to be able to make music that transcends time and makes it otherworldly and so beautiful.
    The Pink Moon album has to be up there as 1 of the greatest albums ever made.
    I feel so honored that i was allowed to 'find' the music of Nick Drake over 20 years ago.
    Like someone who mentioned in a comment about Nick Drake which i will never forget.
    They said "That God will always find a way for people to discover the music of Nick Drake".
    About 24 years ago, i walked into an independent record store when at that exact moment there was a song playing (which turned out to be Cello Song), i loved the song, it just hit me in my stride immediately.
    In my ignorance i thought it was a Donovan song i had'nt heard (I have a number of Donovan albums and i thought the voice sounded a bit like Donovan) I walked to the counter and asked the shop assistant which Donovan album was this from. The assistant smiled and explained to me that it was Nick Drake. I left the store having bought the Way To Blue compilation. I was blown away on first listen and played it endessly. After that i knew i had to get his albums and learn all about this incredible songwriting, guitar playing genius i had been 'gifted'. I bought Five Leaves Left, Bryter Layter and the incredible Pink Moon album, and also some compilations with demos and rare tracks.
    Just like that comment by someone about Nick Drake, i truly believe that God, or the creator, or whatever you want to call it, found a way for me to find the music of Nick Drake. I feel honored when i listen to my Nick Drake albums.
    His beautiful music tranceds all time and the sound from his guitar and voice has a soulful, poetic vulnerability to it, which can give you goosebumps or make you cry.
    God, Creator or fate will find a way for every passing generation to find the beautiful music of Nick Drake.🙏🎶💯

      It's hard to believe he would be like 76 years old today if he was alive. I remember your comment clearly every time I go back in my mind about nick drake, the audio clearing up feels like he comes into our presence all of the sudden. We miss ya Nick, I wonder if he can see our comments from beyond. maybe he can and he sees how famous hes become. I hope so!

      This is wonderful. I conspire that the Nick Drake Estate has the official tape of the Brian Wells recordings. There is likely an entirely high quality version of this, unless Scott Appel stole them or something. This recording is of absolutely the same take - just different recording generations. The first part is probably third or fourth generation, and the sync is second generation. Audiotape is a beautifully unfortunate invention.

    Nick is a genius and I guess nobody cares here, but this is by no means what is usually meant by guitarists as fingerpicking - I think you could call it just "arpeggio" or at best "finger-style"

    • @mr.skeltal8687
      @mr.skeltal8687 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      There are only two known recordings. The muddy version was recorded at his home on his tape recorder as a demo, but isn't finished and the second (clearer) version was recorded in the studio. But, the better demo version is not complete, the recording starts halfway. Could've been a sound check.
      Both recordings are in different keys at different speeds, so the uploader did a really great job of making the two halves whole.
      This is the best version we'll probably ever have
      Edit: three versions, I keep forgetting about the third

    • @ostar22
      @ostar22 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mr.skeltal8687No there is only one original studio-like recording of this version of place to be. The muddy recording is just a second or third generation copy of that original. But they are all definitely the same take. The original is incomplete because probably part of that tape got erased. Of the first section only the mediocre copy remains.

    hopefully in the future we can get some type of AI to listen to nick drakes full albums, and then use a "Deepfake" type of processing on this recording to clear up the intro to high fidelity, it should be possible in theory but right now I don't think anything like it exists.
