- When the winds and tides align to push the SIB offshore I head straight for the Eddystone lighthouse. It’s not just the fishing this place has to offer, there’s just something special about going out there and it carries a proper sense of adventure with it. On this day I couldn’t find the bass shoals that I usually stalk so I pressed on to the very limits of the reef system and at one point was more than 14 miles from land, the furthest I’ve been on my Excel Volaire. Here I found a nice surprise lurking in the depths.
To be in with the chance of winning a Fiiish black Minnow No4 combo let me know the spot that you enjoy fishing regardless of catch rate. Make sure your subscribed and have liked the video. Winning comment will be pinned and posted on my instagram, Oban.on.the.water
My most well remembered spot, which has got a great sentimental feeling for me , is Gut Bouy in the irish sea just off lytham st annes, it was the first place i ever went sea fishing, myself and my Brother- in- law purchased a 16' orkney longliner, neither had ever been to sea in a boat before, we had a brilliant day with Plaice like dustbin lids sole , Dabs, Big whiting, it was what got me hooked on boat fishing, that was 40 years ago, and just bought my first sib age 66, my son and me have just joined a club quite near to gut bouy, so happy times are here again, hopefully. Thanks for sharing Oban, love your style, keep em coming.
Thanks for sharing Jimmy, I’ve had countless happy days at sea with my brother.
Get in touch on my Facebook or Instagram so that I can arrange postage of your Fiiish black minnows!
I live in Southeast Cornwall and I love the peace and quite of the Tamar, early morning sun just coming up, tide coming in lapping at the hull looking for that gilt to scream that line off my light rig. Let the stress of the past week drift away and cup of tea and relax...........Paradise. Love the videos Thanks
My favourite place would be Combe Martin bay in north Devon. We went there on holiday a few times as a kid and then I ended up moving nearby. So many memories and it’s also a kayak hotspot so later in life we started to fish it from a kayak which produced a lot more fish. The bay is beautiful and I’m even getting married there next year in a hotel up in the cliffs.
Manacles for me in south Cornwall. My late father used to take me on his boat when I was a nipper. It’s taken me a while to pluck the courage to get out on my kayak on my own as the conditions and currents around there are a bit wild. I’ve invested in all the safety gear and now love an evening autumn session seeing the daylight out. Double figure bass is my goal. Only 1lb away from that. Great vids 👍
My favourite place to fish is Mallin Head in Southern Ireland. I live in Dunoon Scotland now but I was born in Bradford, West Yorkshire all my life and used to fish Whitby for Cod nearly every month. And moved up to Scotland seven years ago. Now six of my friends go to Southern Ireland every August to fish the wrecks and reefs that are abound there at Mallin Head. We fish for Pollock, Coalfish, Ling and Cod on the wrecks with bait and rubber eels. and then we have couple of days on the reef for Tope with mackerel baits. Plenty of tope around the 30lb to 40lb, great sport and we return every one using barbless hooks.. Your videos are great and you are so enthusiastic, it's great to see. I am 79 years old and seen a lot of changes in fishing tackle and baits, and it's all for the good of the fish. So keep the films coming. I for one enjoy them and it helps pass the time on until my next trip. Thank you.
Regularly make the trip from midlands to south Devon for bass and wrasse. Saltwater ruined my freshwater fishing. I’m hooked big time. Back down again in the morning but North coast with the huge tides. Don’t wish to give exact areas but we’ve found a few honey holes we are lucky to have to ourselves each visit thx to seeking permission from landowners for access. The odd bass or bottle of whisky & wine keeps them happy😍
Hey dude, recent subscriber here as I’ve recently sold my fishing kayak in order to buy a SIB set up. I live on the Gower Peninsula which has so many great spots for all manner of sea fishing. For me my sentimentality lays with rocking hoping around these areas as it’s where I got back into fishing after approx 25yrs away from the hobby. When I joined the Army I was away from the sea and it fell by the wayside. I’m back now and loving it again. Great vids to watch and appreciate you sharing these trips and adventures as it serves as motivation for others. Tight lines and kind regards from Wales. 👍🏻👊🏻
Hi Oban I grew up in Devon and Cornwall and my Favourite spot when I was Kid was Ramehead, Great pollack and wrasse fishing but the walk back up the cliff was KILLER! Ill never forget the memory of night fishing with a float fished ragworm watching the night light disappear under the water .. brilliant times. I'm now living in Glasgow so not so spoilt for sea angling marks close by , but I should take delivery of my sib in the next couple of weeks so hopefully find a new favourite spot for myself and my son.. Loving the Videos, keep em coming .
Dave
my favourite place to fish is a nice little spot in fowey, called the bodinick slipway, or as i liketo call it 'swan slip' because of its nice neck like a swan, i dont catch much there but its amazing seeing as i know the families that live around, i wouldnt even mind winning or loosing, because im happy to share a spot with my favourite youtuber. and the video is amazing, nice stuff mate, small fish are still good fish!!
My favourite place is South West Coast of Scotland , I love Pollock fishing Luce Bay as this has a particular sentimental value to me as my best friends ashes were spread in the bay after his passing , always take a small miniature of Smirnoff Vodka and give him a wee half the first fishing trip of the season 🎣another great video Oban keep them coming
Really like fishing out of Falmouth, caught some nice fish around there👍
Swanage pier gets my vote. I’m a big fan of LRF and have had the best days there, wrasse, polock, bass, mackerel, gobi, scorpion fish, blennies all in one day! And chips on the beach can’t be beaten! 👍
I grew up fishing the oxford canal, has such amazing memories for me as a kid over summer holidays and really made me catch the fishing bug. Based in the south hams now, so its out to sea for my fishing, but i'll never forget those times with a float catching perch! :) keep up the great work Oban!
Hi Oban I'm Joao and I'm from the north of Portugal 🇵🇹 I live in Wrexham north wales for 15 years I started fishing in the sea 14 years ago 8 years ago I bought my first sib and whenever I can I go to anglesey and pwllheli but since I started watching you on TH-cam I learned a lot and one of my plans is to go to Cornwall with a colleague but it is very complicated to go to a place in the dark without knowing anything 😀 😉 keep making the good videos you make can't wait for the next one
I’m off to Portugal tomorrow, travel rod packed. Really looking forward to the challenge.
Take lots of sun protection boiling there this week mate
My favourite place to fish is Fowey, I live and work in Fowey as a chef, late night finishes mean I have the place to myself to fish, started on the lrf fishing and managed a John Dory, great vid as always, next time your in Fowey give us a wave 👋🏻
My favourite place to fish is the right hand side of port Quin. Deep water with kelp beds which is good for loads of different species. Also has sand if you cast off more to the right which is good for flatties. When Iv fished early mornings I have seen seals, dolphins and even a small shark breach the water. It has fantastic view of up the coast to tintagle. And the mouls just off the rumps at polzeath. Evening time with the sun setting on the north coast can’t beat a spot like that.
I also have many fond memories of Port Quinn. Although I haven’t fished it in a while it’s a spot that I feel I can always pull something from.
My favourite place is Gull Rock off the Nare Head. Launch at a lovely little village, West Port Holland.
I live in Exmouth in Devon, and the river Exe is excellent fishing ,from a sib plenty of bass , and just a short trip to straight point, for pollack plaice and wrasse, congers and ling 😀
Hi buddy great video again showing what you can do with a small boat my son and I love to fish a spot in Southampton water called magazine lane there are lots of bass to be had my son and I are new to lure fishing so we are stilllearning thank you for all the great information on your videos stay safe and can’t wait for the next one
Live in the northwest travel to Cornwall since I was a child I’m now 50 and travel down do some kayak fishing and pier fishing
Always catch various species but turned my attention last March to bass and only caught 2 schoolies but to set a target and catch was an achievement for somebody who normally does course fishing. Keep up your great videos
My favourite place to fish is Greencliff in North Devon from the shore. I don’t have a boat yet but look forward to its arrival, which should be this week.
Greencliff is the place for me with many big beautiful bass caught over the years. Five of them over 70cm in the last 2 years, which has been my ever lasting lure back to this frustratingly, wonderful location.
There has been many a blank but the walk in itself gets the fresh air in the lungs.
My favourite place to fish is the Eddystone where you were today. My uncle was a charter fisherman called David Courtney, he used to take me there when I was a small lad. I still fish there nowadays with my oldest friend in a boat called “The Flying Swan” out of Plymouth. I remember uncle Dave had a thick notepad with the marks out of Plymouth which you had to “eyeball” with structures on the shore. No navigation aids in those days! Great video as usual!
Oban love the videos, is there any chance you could do a fish finder set up on the sib, which battery and how you connect everything up. Thanks.
I’ve rediscovered fishing from Hayling island. Getting practice in so I can at least know roughly what I’m doing for when my son grows up to an age when he can come with me
Brilliant video...love the excel boat...going to get one next year...very informative...please keep doing them... Christchurch ledge off Bournemouth for me....
I am from Essex and fish locally but my favourite place to fish has been on various trips to Cornwall. It just gives me a better shot at fish we don't get in the estuaries where i fish.
The sea is always so clear and ultimately just a more spectacular scenery to fish in
Favourite place to fish - not that I’m from there - is Boat Cove near Pendeen Watch. Always visit when I get down to Cornwall. Never catch much, but it’s usually just me, the seals and sometimes a passing pod of dolphins :)
Great vid as always mate 👍
Here from OYZ I came. I don’t usually watch England videos. Great
From UK, but favourite place to go fishing is thailand, koh nguan yuan. All sorts of interesting species there + squid all year round! And the scenery is beautiful!
Chesil Beach is my favourite place, it’s almost spiritual for me. The amount of different species of fish is incredible. I think the Stingray record was broken there, 80lbs or something like that. Great for cod later in the year too 😊
For sentimental value it would have to be the Serpentine lake in Hyde park London, where I caught my first fish as a kid nearly sixty years ago, not sure if you can still fish there.
Great video fella great to see you back out 🌊🎣🐟😎👍🏻
Hi Oban, my favourite place to fish is Moelfre on the isle of Anglesey.. lovely clear water and caught my one and only bass there last year..going again next week hoping to catch bass number 2!! Cheers Si 🎣
Usually fish the mersey and there is some awesome fishing to be had there, but iv just got myself a sib only had it out once so far and that was to Prestatyn with tope over 40lb, anglesey probably has the biggest emotional connection for me, but my favourite place for a fishing adventure, with chances of monsters is uwchmynned (cardiac hill) on the llyn peninsula...........
Ps to any Welsh speaker I apologise for my spelling 🙂
My favourite place to fish is in Kerry Ireland, on this beach near tralee, it's a important place to me because I've been going there to our mobile home since I was born and have great memories there. The fishing is either really good or not great, but when it's good its fantastic and produces lots of different species. You never really know what's going to turn up there. I've caught bass, a conger eel, flounder, wrasse and rays at this mark over the years and I absolutely love it.
Brilliant response!
Well done young man.......every day is different out there
Great little video
You know where I love to fish
The reefs around Falmouth Bay can be some of the most productive bass and pollock fishing in the UK
See you out there this summer buddy stay safe 🙏
My favourite place is Menai straights in north Wales! 🏴 fast currents always and you never really know what it’s going to throw up! Fiiiiish black minnows would be good there being weedless too as it is very snaggy! 🤞 if I win I’ll not lose this one 😂
Isles of Scilly is my favourite place to fish had some amazing fishing ipout there for big pollack.. nice video mate
Southend Pier. I fished there as a young boy and I revisit and fish for Garfish whenever the tides and weather are right. Not big fish but there’s something magical about them for me!
Hi Oban.
Favourite place to fish is Loch lomond (pike fishing) but after watching your videos it has really inspired me to get in to sib fishing. Looks great fun. So much so I have ordered a sib and outboard package from Terry at excel and its du this month.. Canny wait to get it.. Been buying tons of stuff. Life jackets. Vhf. Fish finders. Anchors etc etc.. Hopefully comes soon 😂😂
My favourite place to fish is on Donegal Bay in the NW of Ireland. I grew up there and love to get back to fish it as often as I can.
Anywhere out of Fowey on my 17’ Wilson Flyer. It’s a beautiful place to start out for the day & the same on the return.
My favourite place to fish is the Rochdale canal....Great for stickleback 😉
stayed at pont pill some years ago, loads of fish at the end of the pill, quite big but wouldnt go for any lure or bait i tried🙄
My best spot is out on the Essex marshes surrounded by bird life,Terns,Oyster catchers and Avocets. Fishing for bass on the river Blackwater. The perfect place to throw a lure and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. 👍🐟👍🐟👍🐟👍🐟
Hi mate what floor you got in that sip. But a great video keep them coming I know it’s been a year but I like your videos
I'm from Sutton Coldfield just North of Birmingham but I'm lucky enough to have a static caravan in North Wales by Harlech, we (me and 14 year old son - he would get the lures if we were lucky enough to win) are fairly new to fishing, we only use lures, we fish from rocks or kayaks and I've been following you as were thinking of moving up to a 4m SIB, this is how we found your channel mate, Im still in the research phase at present
Just looked on google maps and christ you were a long way offshore bud, keep up the good work on the films mate.
It would be nice to have an updated film on SIB of what you've learnt and what you may do differently now with size or engine etc or would you just stay the same ?
Steve
14 miles flipping eck! Think I’ve only managed 2 miles so far due to the flipping winds here
Another great video. You inspired me to pickup a 4m SIB last summer. Where did you pick up that outboard cover? I certainly would benefit from one.
from Somerset but fishing the 1000 miles of navigable water in the Stockton to San Francisco delta big mouth bass fishing in 2016 absolutely brilliant sport 😎
Great vid looks like an epic trip. I like to fish for bass from my sib just off Herne bay or Tankerton beach which is at the end of my road keep up the good vids.
I live in Europe, but Queensland Australia. Thats the best place fishing for me.
Hi Oban awesome videos, can I ask where that slipway is? Looking to try the Skerries and looking for somewhere to launch. Seen Dartmouth ferry slipway but parking limited. Tight lines
Hi Oban, I am currently using a penn slammer IV 4500 (the same as yours) but I’m finding the drag ridiculously high, even when fully backed off. I was wondering if you had the same issue new out of the box and how you fixed it? (As your drag looks much more variable than mine) cheers in advance. Hopefully see you around
Are you going to put a hard floor on your boat. Or leave it like stock, worried about hooks and sharp fins😬🤙
Brilliant mate what rod you use the nebula SP what weight thanks
Cool vid v. ballsy. Are you still happy with the Volaire? I've seen your review and I'm thinking about getting one for general use might do a bit of fishing (i do have a rod). I've never boat a bought before but I want a general allrounder, is it light enough to handle on your own? Also does it handle well in the sea? I've heard the volante has problems as it has no keel at the stern. Does the volaire have much of a keel and does it handle ok?
Good job crazy boy !
My favourite mark is around Dartmouth plenty of different Mark's far out and close in
I would be interested in where that launch place is
My favourite place to fish is the South hams particularly Dartmouth its a place I've fished for a long time as I had a house there its a markedly different sort of fishing to the Bristol channel where I was born and raised well in feeling anyway as the blue sea seems so inviting and tropical compared to the mud of Weston-super-Mare
I to have spent time fishing both areas and agree with the different feelings a mark gives. I would say the anticipation of a proper fish is higher in the muddy waters!
My favourite place to go fishing is off sennen out towards the long ships light house
Hi oban love the videos how do you keep your fishfinder box on your seat good idea thank you
The weather can turn on the way out make sure half an hour isnt the longest 2 or 3
Been there done that, like you say it’s not fun beating into it on a boat that weighs next to nothing.
Hi there, really enjoying your vids, great inspiration for me.
Could you possibly give me some of the lures your using. Want to try for bass/ coddling with a light rod.
If you have the time to reply with some I could get as I have non at the mo.
Cheers bud, keep up the good work, tight lines, Malcolm
I've got a sib but always worried taking it out to sea
Another great video. Now you've had the Excel for awhile, how does the hydrus compare to the excel? Both look great to me but any clear winner?
my favourite fishing spot is Hayling Island
What surf swell and wind do you look for to go out and what’s to much surf to go out for you? Great videos!
Hi mate, I have the same engine as yourself and just wondering where you got your cover from? Can’t find anything online. Thanks
Hi Oban quick question where did you launch from?
I'm looking for a sib mate, could you recommend any as I've not got a clue what I'm looking for, cheers man 👍
Man where videos hope all well
How is your fish finder box stuck to the seat cheers 👍🏻
Bolted through with a wing nut to secure
My favourite place to fish is Columbus Quay on the Mersey catch all different species of fish
Putting back a double body hooked launce is not a good idea, is it. Use it as bait as its damaged
Hi can you tell Me the name of the box the fishfinder sit on thank you
Have you changed your deck?
Can i go with you for fishing oban I really love fishing
How far out did you go?
So you always fish in same spot?
What fuel are you using, E5 or E10?
E5, for the little the tohatsu efi burns it’s worth the few quid extra and peace of mind
Getting hard to find E5.
What’s is the name off the wheels ? ( nice video you do)
They’re from the Excel website. Smaller of the two sizes.
@@obanonthewater7796 thanks 👍🏻👍🏻
17 ltr fuel how far would this last and what size engine you using
I’m using a 20hp. Impossible to say how long that amount will last.
What hp is your outboard?
20
Anywhere thats not dry land ..
Wat a fool
Why’s that then ?
