    1) So, a side-mounted fingerprint scanner is the preferred choice of many. That is not a downgrade to in-displays as it tends to be more reliable in most cases anyway. 2) All major phone companies have removed headphone jacks from their flagship phones EXCEPT for Sony. Unless you're going to mention that as a negative for all the others, that is not an argument against Motorola. 3) Not liking the color rendition of objects (in indoor and low-light settings) is not a camera review. The Moto seems to have BETTER output from its wide-angle sensor than the Google 6 phones - whether that's in detail, dynamic range, noise reduction etc. 4) You never mentioned the desktop mode on this Moto phone competes extremely well against Samsung's Dex, besting it in some areas. 5) You yourself are treating the stylus support as an afterthought. It's a feature not found on other mainstream phones outside Samsung regardless of it not being included for your review. 6) Moto might have anticipated that you'd give such an elementary review that they didn't bother sending the stylus. It's about time consumers searched out more nuanced and balanced reviews as opposed to these guys who only want to declare winners and losers, often glossing over the strong points of phones besides Samsung and Apple -- nowadays the pixels too.

      I totally agree. My wife just recently got me this phone. I had the last version and honestly the only thing I miss from the old phone is the swipe controls. Maybe because I was use to them? I don't know. No complaints here I share pictures and videos and I always get compliments. So it's not a pixel, Samsung, or iphone. Is it that much of a step down? I don't know, but I'm happy and enjoying it. By the way, if you look at Cnets review they have a completely different review. Check it out.

    I think you're way too hard on it and reviewers like you are the reason phone diversity is dwindling. Soon Moto, Sony, and maybe even OnePlus will be gone and you'll have Samsung and Apple to choose from. You'll have expensive phones that constantly remove features way before they should. Awesome.

    Photos are excellent, speech to text is excellent as is their shortcuts such as two hand chops to turn on flashlights, three fingers on screen to capture screen shots and other tricks.
    Over all a well made phone.

    The cameras are more than fine, the stylus support is something most don't care about but is nice to have, and this unit also - unlike the Pixel lineup - offers proper video out on the USB-C port as well as Motorola's Ready For system which lets you use it in desktop mode if you have an external screen, or do other things in full screen on the external screen. The specs are also fully flagship. So I don't know what would cause the reviewers to give off that unpleasant whine for over 7 minutes, but it really shouldn't be this phone. I'm biased - I ordered one. Would I prefer a 5 year guarantee to update it? Sure.

  • @MatthewAnderton

    What's with the glass obsession? If this phone was made of all glass and metal, it would weigh 10 lbs just like the ridiculous S22 Ultra. And then I'd have to throw a case on it to protect all that stupid useless glass. And why is a side-mounted fingerprint reader a step down? With LG out of the picture, OnePlus is the ONLY phone maker with an under-screen fp reader that actually works all the time. Samsung's and Pixel's fp readers are horrid and they drive me crazy. The Edge+ fp reader works instantly, EVERY time. I'll agree on the cameras though - Moto needs to step up its camera hardware and software if it wants to compete with the big boys.

    I switched to this from S21. Moto is superior for what I want. It's just more intuitive. I bought a Pixel 4 XL for $109 from Ebay and sent it to Verizon for $700 off. I got mine for $290 total as a result. I prefer the fast snappy screen, more plastic older gorilla glass which is flexible and won't crack and break when you drop it (phone is also in a case so I don't care about colors). The phone is just the perfect almost pure Android experience. It's too bad it won't sell well because it's better than flagship Samsung from a usability standpoint.

    Plastic doesn't bother me and neither does the side mounted finger print sensor. I have used in screen units on both Samsung and Motorola and they are never as quick as power button mounted ones. For me the biggest crime of Samsung is the OS. None of it works right and you end up with duplicate apps if you want to use Googles version of say something like contacts, gpay, or messages. They don't allow you to disable stock apps easily. I have a Samsung S21 and personally I don't mind giving up camera performance for a phone that just works. I have nothing but issues with the finger print sensor on my S21+ and although I'll miss the "better camera" I welcome back features such as flick for flashlight which I used more then I realized when over a year later it's still one my biggest gripes with Samsung.

    • @extectic
      @extectic 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Exactly. Samsung's hardware is absolutely the best out there, but their software can drive power users out of their minds with the constant "use ours! Have you tried? Let me hold your hand!" garbage. They're the most Apple-like Android manufacturer, and that's not only a positive thing. In Europe, this Motorola comes with basically a clean Android, which is amazing, and just enough advanced features like Ready For etc to make it a great deal.

    I think it's less expensive than Samsung, the software is definitely better than Samsung's bloated software experience trying really hard to be like Apple. Also the 2020 edge plus in display fingerprint reader was terrible and the side mounted reader is probably way faster and more reliable. Having a charging brick in the box is also a huge overlooked convenience. You can't complain about the Moto omitting the headphone jack if the Samsung you recommend also doesn't have one and hasn't for many years. As far as the cameras are concerned maybe the phone needs some updates but they will more than likely come and improve things significantly.

    As an iPhone user waxing nostalgic over all the weird and unique green bubble phones (some of which I owned) from back in the day, to see this being released after so many better than average phones from Moto is kind of disheartening. Now, it seems like if you wanted something unique, your only choice is a Pixel, since every pleb gets a Samedung. I kinda feel bad for you guys.

    I don't like how we have normalized saying things like "premium experience" or that we're using server space, bandwidth, electricity, a host of other resources so someone can, while taking themselves seriously all the while and not see how ridiculousness and narrow-minded entitled and selfish the whole thing is, will make a video where they somehow think it's a problem that their $1000 phone takes messed up pictures of fruit in a bowl compared to this other phone that takes way better pictures of fruit in a bowl that nobody will ever notice anyways.
    There are kids right this minute getting taken somewhere to make someone money by selling them to other people for their unspeakably depraved evil. But yeah, Motorola sucks because their camera makes oranges look unrealistically orange. How can we complain about ANYTHING when we're wasting and taking for granted all of it?! You have $1000 to spend on a phone you don't need. You have food in a bowl that's serving as a decoration instead of something that you're actually going to eat, and probably just throw away. I can't listen to whiners and complainers that already have everything and don't even appreciate it anymore, let alone acknowledge it.
