My Rotak 43 is about 5 years old and is still working, although the wheels are worn and wobbly. I short-circuited the handle switches so I only have to turn the knob to turn it on (no children have access to mower). I found it more convenient to operate this way. I use it for my lawn in normal way, but also to cut tall grass along forest trails. This require locking the black lid at rear in fully open position using a strong elastic band, otherwise the mower clogs immediately. It is very impressive how much grass it can handle when the cut grass i allowed to fly away without resistance. In this mode it is almost as efficient as a bushcutter. The downside is that the operator gets very dirty. I never replaced the blade but has sharpened it numerous times. It only takes a few minutes, and the blade gets as sharp as new. I expect that the blade can last the lifetime of the mower. I mulch all organic material from my garden using my Rotak even branches from my beech hedge. I distribute this material evenly on my lawn, then the Rotak cuts it to pieces with remnants hardly visible after a few days. I do not have fertilise my lawn and I largely avoid composting organic material from my garden. Thus I avoid concentrating nutrients in a small place like in a compost heap, thus reducing leaching of nutrients to the ground water.
I‘ve been using this machine for 3 years now, but it suddenly stop running - probably due to a faulty switch. I took it back to the DIY store where I bought it, and it came back - foc - not only repaired but fully refurbed : new blade, new grass box, and looking like new. Great machine, and great service !
It looks a very good machine.I use a petrol 16" Cobra roller,my stripes are looking great also. The Allett machines look amazing,I would love one of them, they're expensive but great mowers.
Really nice review. I like to see the roller on a battery mower. I've been doing a few battery mower reviews the last few months. Looks like a well built machine.
My bosch mower 34 li is with the original batter but not the charger it broke is 17 years old battery is not the best anymore😅 but it still workes for 45 min its a 2.5 ah battery greating frome germany
I really don't understand why the hell you can't sharpen the blades !!!! I Have a Bosch Rotak li-ion with the same blade, i sharpen it every 3-4 times mowing my grass. Easily done with a manual file. The blade returns perfect after only a few minutes and the cut is perfect. Agree for the rest. The battery is perfect after 7 years but i have always stored it with 66% of charge in it (2 of 3 blocks lit) this is the best way to make it last a lot of time with no problems at all. I clean the lawnmower with only compressed air, no water at all obviously.
Thanks for the review Matt, I'm seriously considering moving to cordless and this has been a great help. At 2:30 in the video it looks as though the blade has been recently sharpened, can I ask which method you used please?
I have the exact same mower, bought 5 years ago. Just stopped working today. I think it has some poor design elements, such as awkward battery removal because the access port is too small - no grass box full indicator and once full, the grass box is awkward to empty. The batteries ( I had to buy another one) have been losing charge severely over the last year and have about one third of their original run time now. Looking at replacement mower and would definitely not recommend this Bosch. Thanks for the vid though and your garden looks great.
Have you bought a new one? What are you considering to buy? I'm looking for a new mower too, to replace a Petrol mower with is too big and heavy for my small lawn and takes up too much space in garage.
Hi, went for a Cobra RM43SP80V and have used once, but has great battery performance and a good cut from what I’ve seen. My garden is 400sq m. They do a 41 version which is much lighter and has 30 min run time which might be worth looking at. Good Luck.@@iain8837
I have a question I hope you see this. I’m unable to get my height adjustment lever to the highest setting (which is marked 7) - maybe the spring has rusted? I’ve used all my force and can only get it to 6. Any ideas on how I can trouble shoot this issue? Thanks!!
Just saw your video, and I’m just now servicing a rotak 37 li model. Im a bit confused on the safety arrangment for start-up. This particular one, needs both any of the red switches at the handlebar as well as the center switch to be engaged to get it started. But when I let go of the handles and switches, it still runs….🤔🤔 That seems not to be safe at all… But it stops when the mower is tilted, and thats good!! Is the handle bar arrangment normal? I would prefer it stopped momentarily, when I let go of the handles🤔
No that's not safe, it should shut off when you let go. I had one of these mowers and it blew up after 12 uses so I took it back and got a refund. I wasn't impressed with it and bought a Greenworks which has just died after 4 years. I've just ordered another.
@@BobWynn I would be pain in the ass if you would have to keep twoo switches on for runnig. It is not unsafe like this, point is , not to turn it on accidentaly. I often chachge grip whil mowing . Nice video. I have their cheaper model bosch rotak 32 (with wire) will defiantly go for the cordless one next but as you said i feel the weight may give better lines. I have noticed two possibly three neghbours with petrol ones that get much more defined lines and im guessing that's due to knowing more about lawn care and also the weight of their mower.I feel the guy with the hayter mower has the best lawn but then he does seem to help us all out when he can with tips and advice, mine is probably the worst of them all...
Some of the hayters can stripe really well. At the taller heights this rotak can produce amazing stripes though, all the footage in the vid is from the rotak after some fert, good care and a taller cut the lines are awesome with great portability and low running costs
@@GardenLawncareGuy yes your stripes are good mine not so good. My neighbours are pretty good though with his hayter. Like i say tries to help and says I need to turn over my lawn and lower it. Another friend says lower and just start new
