She truly is gorgeous. My favourite SP Loco one of my top 3 favourite Pacifics. She is a pretty Engine with a good bark and whistle. 2472 always has been so immaculate, until the last overhaul sporting chromed cylinder heads and stars, truly gorgeous.
Nice Video! She Is One Beautiful Engine! She, 4449, (That One SP Cab Forward) And Other Surviving SP Steamers Keep The Southern Pacific’s Legacy Alive.
Before her tourist career at Niles Canyon, she did main line excursions in the 90's, and before that, commuter service in the SF Bay Area and hauling the Overland Limited at high speeds between Reno and Salt Lake City.
Wow... SP 2472 is quite a sharp looking Pacific type.... I wonder what it was like when these iron horses stormed the rails... anyways... I love your content!
@@DynamoProductions-trains I also have a real quick question... what happened to the San Juan trainz series? I was hopping you would post another video on that.. because I as a 12 year old am really enjoying the San Juan train series!🙂 thanks!
Southern Pacific 2472 is a handsome 4-6-2 "Pacific" type steam locomotive and is one of my favorite Pacific types that are still in existence, SP 2472 is an impressive example of SP passenger service steam power and a surviving example of the once great roster of SP steam engines.
One of my faves. I need to go up and see her. That whistle is the most haunting thing, I'll ever hear. Oh, well, her whistle and that of ATSF 3751. Those are my favorite steam voices. She still running out of Niles?
Driver size tends to be the big factor. The 2472 has 73" drivers, designed more to handle fast accelerating passenger trains. A similar size engine with smaller drivers is better for heavier freight.
I hope she'll return to steam again one day speaking of which I heard the Niles canyon railway is moving but I'm still seeing videos from that place and after watching it it looks like that the place isn't moving at all !? Now since 2472 hasn't operated since 2015 I'm thinking it's either retired from running, is in storage or waiting for an overhaul since I can't find an answer for it on TH-cam or online
Niles Canyon isn't going anywhere. The 2472 and GGRM collection is supposed to move. The 2472 is apparently still certified, but no runs until it moves.
@@DynamoProductions-trains why can't 2472 run until the Niles canyon moves? Was it having problems or needed repairs or was starting to have problems!!!!!!!
I just said Niles Canyon is going nowhere, but the GGRM collection is. It is supposed to go to a new operation, a move that has been delayed a few times. The 2472 is perfectly fine to operate, even though it hasn't since 2015.
@@DynamoProductions-trains has it not run since because it's apart of the ggrm collection and why can't it run even though they already have a few steam locomotives under steam there as of now
@@atsfevan0242 The 2472 is operated by the Golden Gate Railroad Museum. If they wanted to run 2472 at Niles Canyon, they probably could. Because of the impending move, they haven't.
SP 2472.
The voice of the canyons.
May her legendary whistle keep on rolling on!
I honestly love her whistle.
Nothing beats an SP 6-chime on an SP 4-6-2
@@DynamoProductions-trains That's true.

The SP 4-6-2s are quite immaculate machines
On the Espee, the stars on the wheel centers indicates that axle is equipped with a spring pad lubricator.
What a whistle! Beautiful shots!
Thanks, Hunter did an excellent job
She’s a beauty! Proof they don’t make them like they used to!
Glad you enjoyed
That shotgun stack talk is awesome!
Definitely an excellent performer
Oh how I love the sound of that 6-chime. Also both of those Black Widow GPs are operable.
The SP 6 chime on an SP 4-6-2 is about as good as it gets
What a beautiful locomotive and great sound your boiler snorts very well ... thank you very much for uploading this video🚂🚂🚂🚂🛤🛤🚥🚥

Agreed. Supposedly SP saved more steam engines than any other railroad at around 60
Cool! That just goes to show how great the Southern Pacific was!
She really needs to get out on the mainline again. Hopefully some day.
It's supposed to be moving to a new operation in California
I wish California was like how it used to be
Maybe she will be back to steam.

Amazing
Thanks

Beautiful

i hope this locomotive can be doubleheaded with 4449 again or they plan on restoring 4460
I don't know if 4460 would get the same luck
But after all, she is the other GS Class survivor, so.....maybe
There are no plans to restore 4460. The 2472 and 4449 did doublehead twice for Railfair '91 and the 1992 NRHS Convention.
@@DynamoProductions-trains for now, we'll dream of that

Correct me if I'm wrong did the Golden Gate Railroad Museum sale the 2472
GGRM didn't sell 2472, they're moving their collection to a new location.
Can i use this whistle for trainz

Its a Southern Pacific 6 chime
An SP 6 chime on a SP 4-6-2 doesn't get much better.
I thought this engine was removed from service, or is this just old footage?
I was wondering the same thing
TRAINMAN K There is an ownership disagreement with operators to put it in summary.
This is older footage, 2013-2015 filmed
Does it run commonly
When was this? I thought it hasn't run since 2015...
Filmed as late as 2015
For a second I thought this was a p10 not a p8, can anyone tell me the difference between them?
P10 has a slightly bigger boiler and cylinders. 2472's cousin 2479, or "Zack" as I call him, is a P-10.
2472 is a Pacific class locomotive P-8.
Yes, the description says that
😊
