- In this week of Weekly Talks I talk about TH-cam channel and I share stats and figure from my youtube channel geekyranjit that is a tech channel in India to show you the growth the actual figures and discuss if it's viable as a business and other revenue opportunities possibilities.
Few points I would like to share: ~ @AmitBhawani -
1. Hoping to get access to the TH-cam Preferred Program in India, that's already available in the USA.
2. Don't believe other TH-camrs who suggest you to jump into TH-cam full time because it's not easy unless you are an expert in some area & if you are ready for the tough challenges.
3 Click on the small gear button next to the Subscribed Button to get notifications because that's one way you would actually get a notification when a new video is up.
NOTE: To new creators don't join MCN's they are the worst options who even take away any revenue you make.
Yeah hope India gets the YT Preferred program yes MCN are a total scam, Amit you should actual share your experience you had after joining the MCN sometime.

My Channel Was just 1-year-old , but I did face few issues . specially earnings , when I thought I can earn , the earnings went down by 80% that's huge , still, my views are getting now but the earnings are similar . TH-cam needs to fix this problem and think about Tech TH-camrs who have to invest in many products from their pocket and still not getting the correct earnings .
Solutions :
1) TH-cam Can really change this by working close to big tech TH-camrs in INDIA , Its not always Cooking or Comedy channels .
2) moving to any other Sites with better Options . i doubt whether any are there .
3) Private hosting . post the sneak peek here and ask Viewers to check the full videos in our sites .

My Stats (Comparing 01/01 to 26/06 for 2015 & 2016): (1) Watch Time = 2015: 101,076 ; 2016: 169,354 (2) Views = 2015: 65,073 ; 2016: 106,931 (3) Revenue = 2016 is half of 2015

Regarding showing revenue, just wanna clear a thing. Actually, it is allowed to show your earnings. No TH-cam Policy is violated by that. It's the CPM data you can't show.
Also, first thing TH-cam should focus on is somehow make this AdBlock not working. It will benefit the creators a lot. Releasing offline feature and all is hardly of any use. :-(
It is very good and informative about TH-cam and revenue stats, well narrated by you also and looking forward to work with you in future.

1. as you said, you can put a donate option in your video description, so that we can help you to keep this channel live and running. (if 1k followers continues to donate min ₹50/month, you can raise 50k more per month)
2. one more thing is that, along with product reviews ( which needs lots of money) you can try making some software tutorials also (which needs less money)..
3. make more videos on simple things, for not so tech saavy viewers (like configuring wifi router or even more simpler topics)
4. you can start another weekly or monthly show, to discuss about latest tech related news, tech insider activities, latest innovations in gadget tech (like a current affairs mag), in which you will not be required to buy any gadget.
I'm not a youtuber, but still i feel that, intangible things (like softwares, services etc) can bring more revenue instead of just a piece of hardware. I am glad that, you have rejected many
sponsorship offers to keep your reviews unbiased. you
can think about my suggestions, if those make sense at all.. keep doing the good work. stay blessed.

I am not sure whether these would help, but here are a few ideas.
1. Do non product videos; say how to do something and so on. I believe your expertise with programming would help.
2. About donations - I am sure people would be happy to help. Someone mentioned about Paytm wallet, you could use that. Even small donations can add up to a lot.
3. You could ask for sponsorship with local Indian retailers.
4. Starting a website would be good as you are already investing your time on TH-cam, you could write some quality articles and post it. Also you could do a SEO for the channel and website. You can put bonus videos on your website, which can be viewed only by subscribers.
5. Don't keep the gadgets for long, sell it once you are done with filming.
6. You can consider investing a small sum of money in the stock market, you could get the help of some expert stock brokers.

keep up the good work sir, ur work is awesome, one of the best tech review channel from India..
You can put up full length ads on videos which cross say a 10k or 20k views. That way you can earn more of it. You can even make your own goodies like a tech shirt or smartphone cases or somethings like that.
You can put up some ads on items on your fb or twitter account or make like a 10 sec intro video of sponsorship on your videos.
You can sponsor some apps like TaskBucks or Waffle or Mcent so that people can refer to your links
You can even make some android apps for your channel, put some in app purchases
you can make a paid app which tells everything about smartphone, which to buy, what apps to download, or even a donation option in your app rather than a patron.
Your channel is highly smartphone oriented. Make some once a month things like best tech under 500rs or make some gaming videos. Make more vlogs too.

Very informative video regarding TH-cam channels and their given revenue in india.. So depressing facts...
very bold and honest video.
I m not aware of ur qualifications but in my opinion these things can be done.
1) hire a marketing executive. I m sure he will give many ways to use this fan base.
2) Many in India want to have their channel but don't know how and continuity is a problem. Here is the opportunity.... share ur channel with such people for a fee.

running channel with these many problems is not a small thing , an inspiration for our youngsters who r interested to strt youtube channel with there own ideas :-)
Sir for additional revenue you can form something like that people from whole of India can give u a small amount of money for running this channel like a small fee of 100 rupees or 200 rupees and they can courier that money to you in Hyderabad near Himaythnagarthnagar. Like that if 50000 or 100000 people give 100 or 200 rupees whenever they want you can get a lot of additional revenue.
And trust me sir we as a community are always there beside u and we simply love your videos which are simple and straightforward. 😊☺

Salute to your daily uploads.
One suggestion would be to ask your viewers to disable Ad Blockers & try not skipping ads. Since your Channel is Tech related most of your audience is Tech Savy who use Ad Blockers. Cookery & other casual stuff don't have Tech Savy audience.

Sir You Don't That that there are other TH-cam networks. Almost All of the big TH-camrs including aib had partnered with other TH-cam networks. they give more revenue than Adsense you can join a TH-camr network
that will give you more revenue

yes.. this year revenue has gone down for my channel significantly.. Actually my other stats were also going down in spite of having good videos, but somehow I managed to pick up the stats, not revenue. :(

About solutions, some ways in which lifestyle based channels are able to make up for this revenue Loss is by selling merchandise. I don't know how tech channels can make up for this, but maybe endorsing brands like D-Brand or accessories for simple personalizations or with websites like printvenue, vistaprint etc, I guess you can make up for some amount of money.
One more thought, start up another parallel channel, and post some exclusive content on that channel as well. If the revenue is the same for a lesser amount of views / subscriptions, you essentially double your income by posting to that channel. However it might mean double the work as well.
I personally feel TH-cam should have a graded scale for their cut on channel revenue. The bigger the channel, the lesser the %cut. After all, by having good content, you're dragging more people onto TH-cam to watch content from other channels.

The reason why your earning is not increasing with with the watch time is that, may be your views are increasing on mobile.
Also desktop has adblock which is also heavely responsible.

Why don't you sell your own products using Amazon FBA. I have seen many people are making huge money out of it. You can source the products from Alibaba.
I have alwayz respected you and felt proud to share your videos but after watching this I just want to say a genuine thank you for everything you have done and you will do... Imagine guys working for 12 hrs a day and after that facing "false criticism " just because he didn't have picked ur fav device or our crazy list of comparison videos. i know that sir how u are feeling about this as you are a great youtuber . even this happened becoz of many peoples who use adblockers. and also many new channels are also on TH-cam by which it is difficult for google too to share the ads on every monetize content so they just decreased the cpm or cpc
Hi Ranjit, patreon is not a solution as most of us don't own an international debit card or credit card. There is a website called instamojo which is for India and people can contribute there (Some channels/websites use it, eg. Unacademy). But, I don't know whether you want to do that. Just check it out in case you are okay with it. Another reason I suspect for the lowering of revenue is the increasing use of ad blockers due to mindless advertisements put by news paper and other websites. Thanks.
Well I guess it's good to assume that revenue increased to a certain extent, because Dollar value has increased to a considerable extent in conversion to Rupees.. May be not that big, but you need to consider inflation in mind.
Plus you can always start another channel and funnel your viewers to the new channel and almost increase your revenue to a considerable extent.

Hi Ranjeet, I appreciate your content and though I don't have experience in this sector, I would like to suggest techno Buffalo way. Put a small advert at the end of any video. Just a small 10-15 sec ad
hi Ranjith thanks for sharing your experience and real facts about TH-cam.i would like to point out one thing. i watch a lot of videos on TH-cam and rarely I see ads in those.let's say if I watch 25 videos may be only 7-9 would have ads with them and for the remaining cases the video starts as soon as it is buffered.. so I don't know if this is only happens with me but I do think ads are the main portion of a TH-camr's revenue... so I think TH-cam India is not aggressively putting ads on videos like I said earlier and may be that could be the main reason for your revenue loss.. whatever be that i love your videos and your work it is unique and informative so continue your journey and we will be with you.😠😠😠😃
hey ranjit I am glad that youtuber is not a simple thing but what you guys are doing great. the thing TH-cam is doing ridiculous thing that not increasing the revenue, u think all youtuber get together and ask them about increasing the revenue or decrease the cutoff(45%-20%,25%,30%,35%......).

its all about rpm and cpm! it is really hard in India because. we didn't get fair rpm or cpm
One of the reason i would say is that some people have an AD BLOCKER installed.
Yes, even i have a small youtube channel, i think this might be one of the reasons because youtube only pays when ADS are displayed on your videos.

I think contribution for good TH-camrs is a very good idea. Paying a very small fee (voluntary) will make lot of difference to you all guys and at least there will be some sort of income or basic return on investment. "Something is better than nothing". Will try to find out more. Keep up the good work! We really look forward for your reviews (even if I see lot of other reviews), now your review is sort of QC stamp on the product. :D
Adblock is one of the main reasons for the decreased revenue. Also, you can start posting one or two videos per day of random unboxings from eCommerce sites (see unbox therapy). This would lead to more views + increased affiliate income.
Depending solely on TH-cam for income is detrimental. I suggest posting some stuff on other platforms mentioned and see which combination works out. Also, the idea of donation is not a bad one. I wouldn't mind donating $2 if it helps increase the quality and quantity of videos.
Lastly don't get depressed, building a user base is the hard thing. The cash WILL follow.

actually the problem is they won't show the ads on mobile devices 90% of the time. That's why we are not getting the money that we can potentially generate with mobile phones as major of our viewers are from smartphone devices

Q. Why Indian smartphone reviewer don't get much subscribers, views etc. when compared to US?
A. Most flagship smartphones are launched in India months after they are launched abroad. And people already have already seen the unboxing and reviews before those devices come to Indian TH-cam channels. And the phones which are launched first I india are not so important to most people. But time is changing, for example launch of g4 plus. If more big companies launch there phones first in India then Indian TH-cam channels can get profit out of it.

I agree with u sir, no one can't make more money with passion. Need to be more tricky. Try video editing stuffs, and put AD's or start a website to get donations in India. I have even thought of creating my channel but this is what I am afraid of. But passion always lives. You are too open hearted.. 😊
