      As the person who is ahead, you are statistically better off running it more times. He was an 85% favorite to win the hand. We can simplify this a bit by saying hes an 85% favorite to win every single time they run it. The number does change based on what cards came up but it shouldnt impact it too much. Rather than have a 15% chance to lose all of it in a fluke. He wants to guarantee he will come out ahead by running it more times because that 15% fluke is not likely to happen more than once. He was extremely unlucky that Ernest somehow won 3/4 of those hands and is probably what makes that the most epic hand. Even with that bad luck Phil retained 25% of the pot so he didn't lose everything.

    • @wedgeantilles8575
      @wedgeantilles8575 ปีที่แล้ว +63

      @@turkeydano2106 Yes, exactly.
      Phil decreased his chances of getting 100% of the pot.
      But he decreased the risk of getting 0% of the pot too.
      My statistical skills aren't good enough to say how big his chances was for getting 75% of the pot, I'd say something like 95%.
      Do you prefer 85% chance for the whole pot or do you prefer 95% for only 3/4 of the pot?

      It's meant to eliminate harsh risk for the favorable. While this video with Helmuth is a bad example it's generally a way to just secure a win. So if I have a 90 % chance of winning , there is still a 10% risk that I will lose it all at once. If you instead run it 4 times (lets say same odds every time 90% to 10%) there is now instead only a risk of 1/10000 that all is lost, even if that means maybe sacrificing a quorter of the winnings etc

      not really, it was stupid and ignorant. She played it like he couldnt figure out she didnt have anything...she had like no options in the river over what he had...not sure why he folded...she got lucky he was stupid in that moment

    It has been close to a decade since I’ve watched or played poker. This “run it 3 times” is COMPLETELY new to me. When did they implement this into the game?

    • @CampVogel

      That is for live cash games only, typically with high stakes. If the players agree, they will "run it" x-number of times from the spot when all the chips went in. It acts as a bit of luck protection for both players (best hand reduces the chance to lose everything to a bad beat, worst hand increases the chance to get at least a fraction of the pot). It has been around for a while, but most televised poker is tournaments (where it's not allowed) and plebs like us don't play cash games with blinds of $100+, so it's not seen too much.
