    • @DP-um1ck

      True. They balanced him out in The Shield. Seth would usually make everything look technically sound. Then you'd get a tag and couple of 'popular' Ambrose moves (Thesz press, some alternating quick slaps and punches, a lunatic lariat). And then, usually, someone would get speared by Roman or someone would get Triple Powerbombed.
      They gave you just enough Dean to want to see more next time.
      And during his singles run they gave him Stone Cold-like moments (but then way more random and out of nowhere).
      Like the hotdog cart.... Or him hiding in a present to surprise Seth. It was a bit looney. But it was okay for what it was at the time.
      And you could tell that WWE was keeping a leash on things just enough to make it work.
      (I think that's we he lacks in AEW. Someone to restrict things a little bit)

    • @salomore
      @salomore ปีที่แล้ว +38

      At that point the booking made it look like WWE dropping a ball on yet another upcoming star, so him saying he couldn't go all the way with Brock just sounded kind of disappointing, like they wouldn't give the guy a chance. But even before Moxley and AEW, he had a match with Jericho in the "Ambrose Asylum", which was an absolute garbage and the indicator of what kind of ideas got rejected by the creative and of what was to come in the future. Even taking that in consideration, Brock wanted to work safe not only for himself, but for the people he made a business deal with. Imagine making a deal with one of the biggest sport stars, promoting a big match, spending millions of dollars, only for him to come and say at the last moment that he couldn't compete, because some kid wanted to play with toys.

      With the benefit of hindsight, I’m totally comfortable believing it was 100% a matter of Moxbrose coming to Brock with a bunch of totally shit ideas that instantly turned him off. Like his need to fake stab ring posts with screwdrivers.

Granted, if you're running monthly shows you might have an excuse for rushing a little. When you have multiple shows a week, plenty of time for promos and the magic of a jumbo tron with the ability to rewind footage, there's no excuse.
      Moreover, meaningless swerves can actually hurt good ones by oversaturation. Bully Ray being the boss of Aces And Eights was a good swerve, logically thought out. It was ruined because everyone saw it coming, not because they figured it out via the clues given, but because TNA had done so many nonsensical swerves for shock value already that they didn't need to figure out why a baby face would turn heel. Jimmy Jacobs joining Kevin Steen in ROH, a completely different company, should have been a good swerve, but such was TNA's overbooked infamy that even that was ruined by association.

    I can’t believe Jim and Brian didn’t talk about how it took Moxley 5 minutes to get that turnbuckle unhooked, and Kenny just had to wait. It was so awful. And also, how tf does it take someone who’s been wrestling for almost 20 years - that long to undo a turnbuckle!? Who trained Mox? It’s supposed to be a rite of passage that you learn to takedown and put up a ring. He had no idea what he was doing, and he was flabbergasted that he had to keep turning the nut to loosen the eye hook. It was a massive fail for a supposed main event guy to not be able to seamlessly take the turnbuckle down.

Blanchard busted the Chair to its frame and tried to stab Magnum in the eye with a very sharp piece of Wood. Psychologically to say the least the moment was chilling and terrifying because no one expected even Magnum and Tully to get so very basic with each other! Jim's description of kenny's appeal is spot on. He's absolutely right. This has been my thoughts on kenny from the first time I saw him in 2018 (when wrestling was actually booming outside of wwe, and wwe was in that horrible era of 2018, 19, and 20 before Roman returned as Head of the Table). I understand kenny's appeal. He has a gimmick. He has a draw to him. I just don't like him, and I don't want him near my precious wwe. As for Moxley, what a horrible wrestler he is. Say what you will about Vince and wwe, they made this guy look like he was close to Roman and Seth's greatness. They deserve an award for that.

    i like how jim described his willingness to bear through this match as "morbid curiosity". At this stage, AEW is The Room and Tony Khan is like an 1/8th Tommy Wiseau with all the goofs being another portion of Tommy. at least with Tommy Wiseau, he eventually started to embrace how The Room was bad and can have fun with it. I think people like Moxley are more akin to Neil Breen where there is no self-awareness and they really do believe what they do is good. maybe Kenny and the Bucks are like Tom Six; there's an audience for them and an unapologetic one at that but they know their audience.
