With an overwhelming talent and innate musicality, @seong-jincho has made his mark as one of the consummate talents of his generation and most distinctive artists on the current music scene. His thoughtful and poetic, assertive and tender, virtuosic and colourful playing can combine panache with purity and is driven by an impressive natural sense of balance.
For his sixth and latest Deutsche Grammophon album, pianist @Seong-Jin Cho returns to the music of Frédéric Chopin with his Piano Concerto No. 2 and four Scherzi. The album features these best-loved works in interpretations characterised by thoughtful poetry and youthful ardour. Cho came to worldwide prominence in 2015 when he won First Prize at the Warsaw International Chopin Competition, the first South Korean pianist to achieve this feat. After the success of his first studio album for the Yellow Label, featuring Chopin’s First Concerto and the 4 Ballades, Cho is now realising his wish to follow that release with what he considers to be its logical companion, a pairing of the Second Concerto and the four Scherzi. Both albums were recorded with the London Symphony Orchestra and Gianandrea Noseda.

He has the best interpretation of this piece that I’ve heard. Crisp, controlled, emotional, but not overly so. This is how Chopin would have wanted it.
Well put and I agree wholeheartedly. Chopin is one of my favorite composers, but 99% of the performances I hear leave me wanting. The exceptions are worth the wait. THIS was worth the wait.
@@Sarah-ht7cs I agree, and like that the emotion comes from his playing and not from draping himself all over the piano. Reminiscent of Rubenstein and Horowitz.

Beautiful interpretation. But this is how Chopin would have wanted it? Bleh. You and I will never know. He might have asked, "why does the pianist keep slowing down towards beat 1 of every single measure? Is every downbeat supposed to be so important?"
Discussing with a friend who is passionate about Chopin, I found myself repeating the phrase several times "but this is how Chopin would have liked it to be performed".

He's the very contemporary classic.

Instagram is such a bad place for finding well played chopin pieces... Because they are so horribly overplayed and everyone thinks they can do a 4 week challenge to learn them.
Instead of being nasty about peoples attempts to learn and play such a complex piece, perhaps just choose to not watch them on instagram? Everyone starts somewhere.

조성진은 쇼팽 콩쿠르 1위의 편견을 떠나 쇼팽 곡이 유난히 잘 맞아보인다.
랑랑처럼 다소 투박하게 큰 손이 아니라 섬세하고 긴 손가락에서 오는 섬세하고 부드러운 연주가 쇼팽의 곡을 잘 살린다. 나도 여러번 듣고 있는데 긴 곡이 아니니 눈을 뜨고 연주 하는 것도 감상하고 눈을 감고 들어보면 쇼팽 곡의 아름다움이 배가가 된다.
그리 한번 들어보시기를 강력 추천.

하~어제 여수 앵콜 녹턴 그냥 녹아버렸어요.다시 연습해보고 싶네요..소프트아이스크림처럼 사르르 내맘에 녹아 한참을 음미하며 고이 간직한 선율~실황으로 들으니 여기가 지상낙원인가 싶기도하고, 현실이 맞나 가끔 고개돌려 분위기도 살피고.ㅋ 유튜브 보고있는 착각이 한번씩들어 우씨~나 지금 현장에있지..하며 엄청 행복했습니다.갑자기 최애 스케르초2번..심쿵~ 하..이건또 뭡니까? 숨을 얼마니 참았는지 몰아쉬는 숨소리 옆분께 들릴까 살짝눈치.완벽한 앵콜덕분에 최고의 하루였습니다.좋은 연주 감사합니다 ~^^~

난 늘 성진초의 음색이 좀 차갑고 지성적이라고 느끼는데... 이곡도 그렇다. 선율은 아름답지만...따뜻한 위로 보단 오히려 개인적 슬픔같은 것들을 객관적으로 보게 하는 느낌(?).... 미소지으며 쳤었던 어릴적 그때보다도 훨씬 더...연주자 스스로도 많은 내적인 투쟁들을 겪어내었기 때문이겠지. 그래서인지 저 비장하기까지 한 의연함이 더욱 반갑고...살갑진 못해도 사실을 말해주는 진실한 친구처럼....차가움 속에서도 매우 특별한(?) 친밀감 같은 것을 느끼게 되는건가....그런 생각을 했다. 모든 곡을 특별하게 만드는 성진초에게 고마움의 장미꽃...🌹🌹
저도 숑진 음색이 따뜻하다는 느낌보다는 파란색의 차갑고 빛나는 음색인 것 같아요
