    I have found that in non-tournament play, when playing with folks who are newer to the game than myself, I often forsake the put-away shot when first presented, mainly just to give them some practice and create a less one-sided game. It helps me put some intentionality into my play. There's a place for compassion in all games, yes?

      Interesting. Yes, there is. If I am playing against a newer player who pops the ball up or is out of position, I do not play at full speed. When I'm playing against seasoned players and the ball is popped up, I do my best to put it away. This was a major tournament, with the winning team going to nationals.Thanks for watching.

    The fact that none of these players can perform drop shots makes them less than 4.0. And all of the errors. 3.5 is generous.

    Alabama pickleball is generally good pickleball. I suspect the brackets were combined and each of these teams were not really 4.0. (The skill level simply wasn't 4.0.)
    Blue Shirt man's 3rd shot drives were almost all while he was still moving in the first half of that game. Whether because he was fatiguing, or they strategized it on the Time Out, he was setting his feet and hitting "better" drives the second half of the game.
    Blue Shirt lady is what I call "steady," in that she kept balls in play ... but she kept popping them up too high.
    Best combinations, IMO:
    Power player / Steady player
    Power player / Quick player
    Quick player / Quick player
    (Two power players or two steady players is entertaining, but not a good pairing.)
    Gray Shirt and Blue Shirt man were power players. For some reason Gray Shirt spent much of the second half hitting TO Blue Shirt man (where he'd hit to Orange more in the first half.) DO NOT CHANGE A WINNING STRATEGY.

    Looks to me Lady in blue just doesn't do power/kill shots to put the ball away. She could have just bad shoulder(injuries) that she just doesn't do power shots. Could be chronic bad shoulders for many years that she doesn't resort to power shots anymore🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️.
    I agree, they need to stop the pitty patty, kill shot the pop ups and change up the 3rd shot drive(mix it up). The outcome of the game could have been different.

  • @929mmr

    4.0 seems like a bit of a stretch for 3 of them but hard to tell from one game. They certainly were decent. You criticized the woman in blue for playing pitty-pat but some players just don't have much power. I have seen 60 year old women that don't have any power just defend and dink you to death with precision shots but the woman in blue, aside from not really having a kill shot just put way too many shots to the other side's kill zone. Again, small sample size. You could see there was some skill there but too many unforced errors to go with no put away shot.

    These players, or any player , cannot put the ball away with out the necessary foot work & body positioning . They must turn their feet & bodies ( closed ) perpendicular to the net ( powerful), not open and square/parallel to it . ( powerless )

      Square stance to the net the body gets in the way on a backhand. A split step perpendicular to the net gets the body out of the way.

      When at the NVZ, in a defensive position after a pop-up, you will see pros like Ben Johns, JW Johnson etc. with their paddle down, anticipating a shot at their feet.
      Their hand speed is lightning fast.
      Lower level players need to have the paddle up, especially if not wearing safety glasses.

      If the play below 4.0 they’re sandbagging if they play 4.0 they’re 3.0. I do not believe you can tell how good someone is until you play against them. If they were really not 4.0 they would have lost in the first round.

    • @Vanessa-pe2xs
      @Vanessa-pe2xs ปีที่แล้ว

      @@offthefront7537 I agree they'd be sandbagging at 3.0. But that doesn't make them 4.0 level players. I'm a 3.65, my partner is 3.8...we may win several matches in 4.0 before being beat out by players who are rated 4.2 and 4.3. There are so many factors that determine who wins a match, including how well partners mesh, their mental state etc, etc. I think both teams here could be 3.5.

    The lady in blue just does not have a put away shot. Grading people changes with different perspectives. my perspective has been to be a 4.0 player. One must be able to 3rd shot drop from any position on the court 80% of the time or better and have front and back hand roll shots at the net. along with all the EASYER shots than those, none of these players have those shots.

    • @pickleballpick-apart9787
      @pickleballpick-apart9787  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I strive to successfully hit 80% of third shot drives. I can do it indoors. Sometimes outdoors, it depends on the wind. A backhand roll is a specialized shot. Not all 4.0 players can hit it. Thanks for watching.

    • @daveharter6469
      @daveharter6469 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @pickleballpick-apart9787 Think you are right on the roll shots. it's pretty hard to hit those at 80% in. There is an art to it, but slowing down enough to find it. Lately, I have been playing better players 4.0+. their serves are hard, fast, and low, hard to hit a hard drive back on those.

  • @donaldlenardson6291

    These players are not 3.5 playing up to 4.0 . They are 3.0 trying to be 3.5....maybe . 4.0 players do not Pitty-Pat .
