Very good explanation. I remember having these principles drilled into us over and over in high school. End play is critical.

I'm from the Longview area and remember James Street vividly. This is also how we all played football in those years. It was 3 yards and a cloud of dust. An option QB that was really good was a beautiful thing to watch. To give an example of this was Arch pitching the ball to the outside for a touchdown when he was on the run. That's the way the option worked when it was run right. We got him....oops no we don't. Steve Worster was my favorite player in the wishbone. Jim Bertelsen was good as was Ted Koy. Many High Schools ran the Power I and optioned from it. On the defensive side in my area, we always had assignments. The linebackers were very adept at reading people. We played the option nearly every week. The pass was rarely used. Defensive Linemen read helmets and fought through the block if no stunts were on. It was important for the defensive lineman to break a double team block to including dropping to the ground if necessary. You were at least trying to keep the pile from getting to the linebackers. We ran 4-3 at my place with 3 good linebackers but the 5-2 with 2 linebackers and a nose guard was very prevalent too.

Hey sweetie I know paying attention is hard for a kindergartner, but they clearly quoted the Vandy QB saying that. And you can tell by the burnt orange background that these are Texas analysts! So they’re not saying Texas is here to humble the SEC. Thanks for listening, let’s get you a juice box and settle down for nap time!

@@mbw629Sweetheart. Maybe we should just throw our juice boxes on the field.
Man, I never had a problem with TX until now. This fan base has a problem, and they need to chill. You're no longer the big DAWG that can't win its own conference. Welcome to the SEC. We don't respect your inability to win the weak BIG12. Actually prove you belong before puffing your chest like this.
Best of luck on the season.

@@Michigan_Spyglasses appreciate you coming to a Texas page and leaving comments! Great to give these guys at IT some added juice to the algorithm. Texas fans are used to idiot fan bases arbitrarily hating on us so keep on keeping on.
Also not sure who your root for but if it’s Michigan like your name suggests, you know we kicked your ass this year, right?
