  • Today we will summarize the build of Dragon 6784 Pz.Kpfw.IV L/70 (A) Final Production. A hideous vehicle for sure, but also a cool one...and this boxing does provide some unique late-war features for the build.

There is no reason for me to promote a bad product, as then I would not enjoy using it, not like the result on my model, and not be proud of publicizing it in a video. There's also no point in me doing this to keep up relations with a company if the only benefit would be getting more of the same products that I didn't like. I have not used every product out there, but from what I have used, I keep using the products I like, and that's why I use them in my videos. You can use whatever other products you would like to and you can feel that they are better - that is your opinion, and is perfectly fine by me, thus I hope that feeling is reciprocated.

@@brucethemodelnoob You know, english is not my native language. I was typing and deleting my comment for your video about the movable sight several times :D To glue the gun is a nice idea btw. I'm working on trumpeter e-25 whereis this gun sight missed. So i'm kinda researching how these gun sights were working on hetzer, jagddpanthers etc. In order to design something similar for e-25.

Great post-build review! Ugly is in the eye of the beholder I guess… just think of it as a StuG with a growth hormone surplus. 😂
I really love all of the little detail upgrades you added. I’m curious to see how you’re going to approach the paint.
The casting markings do look super-cool, but I still haven’t been able to find photos of them on any vehicle other than the prototype.

Good video!! I have built, or should I say - I have a build in progress for about 10 years now - of Dragon's 1994 version of this vehicle (kit #6015). Think my kit is roughly 85% complete. Typical Dragon manufacturing from 1990s, so taking your time and "modifying" parts, trying to figure out what the instructions are trying to tell you, and many other "obstacles" has made this probably one of my slowest builds ever!! Eventually will get it complete - hopefully before I die, but it will get complete. Think the shape & look of this vehicle is quite awesome, definitely something different and gets your attention when placed next to all those other tank destroyers, regardless of type.
After building numerous Dragon kits from 1990s, pretty much avoid this manufacturer unless they offer something that really really catches my attention. Italeri is the same way - way too many PTSD flashbacks building their kits.

Love the attention to detail such as the final return roller stands you added, even if you cant really see them, they make the model a lot more cooler. I also made a RFM Panzer IV J Late that shared a lot of similar parts with that model, unfortunately I later realized I glued the Thoma hooks onto the rail in the wrong position. Apparently the far position allow more space for winterketten or ostketten and the close position is for normal tracks, there are also brackets attached to the fenders that can be folded down if these larger tracks were to be mounted.

Dragon kits are, these days; baffling. They give you bending jigs for the PE side skirts and they also give you a warped hull and warped superstructure in the same kit. Don't know what to think about that. I can see a modeler of lesser experience being turned off to the hobby because of a miscue like that. But, for those with a little more experience; they do offer some unique subject matter. I just started a Ryefield Panzer IV, yesterday. I already found a pretty substantial error in the instructions. They refer you to steps 19 & 20 for the engine. Steps 19 & 20 are the gun breech. The engine is in unnumbered steps at the end. So, I guess; errors and miscues occur in all brands. It pays to stay on your toes, I guess. Very well done, as usual.

Have ran into that same problem with a Takom kit am working on. Alao, seems to be the norm for Italeri kits as well. Also, when building a few Italeri kits, have discovered NO parts numbers on the sprue's while there are parts numbers in the instructions - quite baffling and the head-scratcher there.

In-the-box reviews do have some value, albeit not much.
What I want to know is, does the kit accurately depict the prototype, is the kit well molded - no short shots (although I'll give this a bye if no other reviewers report similar findings as it can be missed in packaging, mistakes do occur; poor detailing (soft edges, missing details), incorrect instructions - unmarked parts, here again I can forgive adding parts that could be installed later for ease of assembly
    - ONLY for kits designed for modelers with some experience - as I believe experienced modelers will know to read through the instructions pre-build and make notes. And finally, quality of the plastic itself, as I remember a few years ago when some companies were using an inferior mix, causing a lot of breakage.
Don't tell me about 'Ease/Difficulty of assembly", because you the reviewer hasn't got the foggiest idea as you haven'tt built it TO know. And yes, you can say that the company has an overall history of continuing poór quality. But ONLY if the history is continuing. I don't care that 10 years ago that the company had a por history as long as it stopped.

@Panzermeister36 I know you have used Ak real colors a lot and I have a question. I got some wheels for a Tank and I got them painted in Ak real colors, my plan is to paint the rubber part on the wheels with humbrol enamel, and my plan is to remove any mistakes with Odorless thinner from Ammo by mig. Do you know if the Ak real colors will handle the enamel thinners like laqcuer paints from Tamiya or Mr color would? Or do you think I need a laqcuer based clear to protect the Ak real colors? I have a feeling that they might not survive enamel thinners because their more similar to Tamiya acrylic and Mr hobby Aqueous that needs a clear coat in order to not get stripped. I would recommend the 3D tool clamps and accessories from TREX. Other brands make them too but TREX's are the best.

I hate Dragon instructions, but I've been building AFV models for so long sometimes I just use their instructions as a sort of guide because I found out in the past if you follow Dragons instuctions to letter they always "f" up something. Why can't they be like Tamiya I love their instructions.

I built the hobbyboss kne but I used the steel road wheels out the jagdpanzer 6 day war kit they were just 2 half's nothing like these! I've never seen these from Dragon before I love thus vehicle alot just strange why they put them steel wheels in the kit and not the other's as exactly the same correct but front and back that's it! Putty you can't post photos in comments I've got it in front of me I'd have shown you!

Hasnt got that 'sneaky' PzIV L70 ,stug look.Just got RFM stug III.Better than dragon,by quite a margin.Detail and scale come across as more accurate,3D printed stug parts created to scale fit RFM but small on dragon? From muzzle brakes to toolclamp's and return rollers and thier mounts.

Don't think "ugly" was a consideration under the critical circumstances of that time when output from Alkett and every factory capable of outputting Jagdpanzers in defence of the Reich was vital. Agree that its tall superstructure renders it nowhere near as aesthetically attractive as that of its sibling Pz.Kpfw. IV L/70 (V) though. I have Dragon's 6397 late variant. Yes, no Zimmerit required -before mouded in Zimmerit became an appreciated 'inclusion'. I have a mid production Dragon (6460) Brummbär which requires it but was issued before the modelled Zimmerit evolution. Still in the stash until I either bite the bullet and pay for ATAK or onsell it cheap to replace it with the newer moulded in Zimmerit version (6892). But I digress. That said, the earlier production L/48 variant of the Pz.Kpfw. IV was arguably the most proportionally aesthetic when it came to that. I like Dragon kits, but the SMARTer the better. As much slide moulding as possible please, as PE has become a challenge too far for my old eyes and fingers challenging even the increased patience of age.
