My 86 Monte SS was having the problems described above exactly. I replaced the TCC solenoid and 4th gear pressure switch using the part numbers provided and it fixed the problem perfectly! Car is running like a dream again. Thanks Wrenches & Rides!
Good job. General motors designed the 2004R to only have TCC control oil in 2nd gear and above. So that means if the TCC solenoid is stuck closed mechanical or the ground wire is grounded causing the TCC solenoid to be energized the engine will have that drag down feel when coming to a stop. But when the Transmission shifts to first gear the drag down feel will go away and the engine will not stall. But if the governor does not allow the transmission to down shift to first gear the engine will have that drag down feel and the engine will stall. That has always confused even the best Transmission guys or gales.Paul's Transmission & Repair. Baker City, Oregon (When you wont it done right)

I just rebuilt my Transmisson I’m in a postion where it shifts good 1 and 2 gear and goes thru all the gears normal like reverse drive and 1-2 but 3 and over drive seem to not kick it or do I have to be at a certain speed I was either thinking this or a torque converter
This resolved my rapid shifting issue with 1985 Buick Lesabre. It was stuck closed physically when I removed it. So basically by being stuck closed permanently, it acted the same as if it were receiving 12 vdc. Well, it should only receive 12 vdc when when goes into overdrive.

No. The 200-4R is a (mostly) hydraulic rear-wheel drive transmission that was only manufactured until about 1990 or 91. I think your 2002 Monte would have a 4T60E, which is for FWD and is electronically controlled.
That's a 4 speed, indicated by the 4 in the model number "200 4R". 1st, 2nd, 3rd is drive, 4th is overdrive, then there is a lock down over 50 mph that happen in overdrive when TV isn't loaded. So, it more like a 5 speed automatic.

I stumbled on your video because my 84 Buick Electra takes awhile to shift after 2nd gear... Doesn't seem like the passing gear is engaging.. could be your problem you did on your car or filter is clogged?
Most likely the pressure switch is bad in your car. You might as well replace everything we did here.
Does the 4th gear pressure switch also apply for a 1987 mcss?
This is taxing my memory, but I believe 1985 was the first year for the Turbo Hydramatic 200-4R in the SS, so the 4th gear pressure switch would be important from 1985-1988.
THANK YOU 💯

so now i know my problem
Glad we could help you out!
The dreaded 10mm socket. I'd better order a dozen of 'em.
LOL
My dads car does this really bad
Where do you get the fourth gear pressure switch?
I called Summit Racing and they helped me find one.
That's what I did.
From what I understand the 200r4 should not lock up.
Are these transmissions also in the 02 Monte carlos?
No. The 200-4R is a (mostly) hydraulic rear-wheel drive transmission that was only manufactured until about 1990 or 91. I think your 2002 Monte would have a 4T60E, which is for FWD and is electronically controlled.
@@mtut thank you for that information
does tthis work for 3 speed auto matic 1985 monte carlo CL??? I WANT TO CHANGE IT.... yeah mines a 200r4 shift well but wanting to change it
That's a 4 speed, indicated by the 4 in the model number "200 4R". 1st, 2nd, 3rd is drive, 4th is overdrive, then there is a lock down over 50 mph that happen in overdrive when TV isn't loaded. So, it more like a 5 speed automatic.
@@toddsmith1976 oh yeah, i sold my 85 monte carlo a year ago for a real pretty penny, thnx though
Would I need the same parts for a 1989 Turbo Trans Am with a 200-4R?
Yes.
