I bought DJI OM5 after watching quite a few videos including yours but honestly speaking somehow I just could get used to that gimbal. Incidentally I came across videos about DJI Pocket 2 and instantly liked and purchased it. Now I am an avid pocket 2 user and my OM5 is just sitting somewhere in the house...

Have a outer box on my iPhone. And it handles it well. ,,, it’s right on the edge of being to much for the clamp,, because the glue is coming undone. ,, recommend small case or no case.

Great review Zdenka. I went from DJI to the smooth 5 and I'm very happy with the switch. I'm wondering if its worth picking up the lights and extra lenses. It would be nice to see the differences in your next videos if its worth investing in extra lenses or the Smooth 5 lights.
I honestly don’t use lights and quite rarely external lenses…. The only lens I like is the anamorphic lens
I have the light and it is nothing special. Yes, it works in a pinch but I would use a better light. As for extra lens I have the moment anamorphic lens and the moment case. When I use the case and lens on my iphone 13 pro max when I balance it I have to slide the phone all the way to the right. I don't think I can put my diffusion or variable nd filter on top of the lens because it would be too much weight to balance. I will try putting a filter on with the lens tomorrow and let you know what I find out. I will say the moment anamorphic lens is awesome. Along with the case and drop in mount it is very easy to put on and take off.
I am choosing between this Smooth 5 and the G6MAX. I just downloaded the zy cam app and noticed many of the features require a subscription that is $30us annually. It kind of negates the $30 price difference and actually could make the GMAX a less expensive option over time. They both are currently discounted on Amazon. Any thought that might help me decide?

Thank you for this video. I see so many that use Apple phones only. Until I saw your video, I didn't know there were limitations with androids. I have a Samsung Note 20 Ultra. So I was glad to see you using a Samsung phone. I've been trying to decide what gimbal would work best for me. I'm an amateur, so I don't know what they offer.

Great review, thank you Zdenca. You were filming with an anamorphic lens towards the end of the video. Does the StaCam app have a ‘de squeeze’ preview mode like the Filmic Pro app does?

@@ZdenkaDarula Thanks for the reply. I now have the StaCam app, and have also upgraded to the StaCam Prime+ subscription. I tried out my (Sandmarc) Anamorphic lens which works perfectly in Filmic Pro, but in the StaCam app, it just widens the aspect ratio slightly, there's no black bars at top and bottom, a bit like switching to Ultra Wide on my iPhone Pro. I don't see any de-squeeze option, there is an 'Aspect Ratio Frame' setting but those are just guides, they don't affect the output. What do you think?

Makes ZERO sense to me. I like the fact they now have a card that comes with a years free of the higher privileges when you buy the gimbal. 👍🏻

Sounds good, if I hadn't already bought 2 gimbals to work with my Android phone. DJI Osmo Mobile 3 only gives me 30fps when using DJI Mimo app. Otherwise I'm stuck in follow mode. My Moza Mini-P comes with a phone adapter, but is a really heavy gimbal and I need to get my strength up after a debilitating hospital stay (and lack of exercise during lockdown). I have found that, with Filmic Pro, reducing the speed to 80% gives 24fps and keeps the audio at the right pitch! So reasonably happpy with that. I may end up buying a cheap iPhone just to use on the DJI Osmo Mobile 3! Doesn't need a SIM, its just for a camera.

Great review Zdenka ,I have already bought the the Gimbal and the two apps but what I notice is that the StaCam app has delay in video mode.That I mean is if I put my hand in front the lens and pull it away the image of my hand stays there for a while.Something is not right.The Zy cami works fine.Cant wait for Filmic Pro integration.
It is if you have extreme stabilization selection in the settings.. totally normal. The more stabilization you select the more latency will happen. The same in Filmic pro

A question if you don’t mind; I have a iPhone 13 pro max and will use a Moment lens and VND filter at times, so I’m worried this payload is too light. Would you recommend the Moza Mini-P 3 instead for this setup? Both are the same price right now. Thank you!
Moza mini p would handle it…. Just a bit difficult to balance all the time

Would really be interested to learn your workflow in transferring shot videos from the StaCam app over to your computer. Within the app the only choices I see are marking as favourite, deleting or sending the video(s) over to the iPhone Photos album. This in all probability results in everything being uploaded to the cloud if sufficient capacity allows and then the process of of getting the videos from the Photos album over to the computer. This is all rather messy and is there no direct access to the StaCam apps video file for a direct transfer to the computer?
Hm…. I’ve got this request before. Unfortunately I think I am on the same boat… big mass, I transfer files via wire transfer. I don’t like that file names are not in order but all over the place….

So glad I saw this video. I ordered the OM5 but ordered This one based on your reviews. Others also not good on the OM5. I have the iPhone 12 Pro but do plan on getting whatever plus size iPhone that will be coming out this year. So I want to future proof my purchase. But…it’s that compact and easier to carry issue on the go. Any suggestions. Ughh

Cinematic mode is only available in your native camera app on iPhone. You are not going to get that in other app
Wow I like it!!! What about using it with external lenses? I see that your phone rests on the axis, so you can not move it more to the left? Does it mean you will not be able to balance it with external weight? And you didn't show the joystick:does it move the camera snoothly? Is there a way to choose/change the speed of joystick?

Hi Zdenka, is this gimbal bigger n heavier to carry around ? I like the OM5 portability also like this gimbal of what it can do. Its hard to gauge the size on video and photo. I have seen and played with the smooth 4 and it was big if this is half the size of the 4 i will buy it. Can you pls kindly let me know. Thank you
Yes this is way smaller than the smooth 4. This one is definitely smaller

Great review as always. One thing about the StaCam it does not have a option to control Audio, so you need to hope that Auto is not cranking the Audio to high up.
Just curious why they did not give the ZY Cami App those Pro features or use the ZY Play for all Gimblas. 🤷♂️
It was most likely very difficult to create… that is the only answer I have. They told me that it is super difficult mainly with Android….

Hi I’m having trouble connecting my external microphone (rode wireless go ii) to the ZY CAMi app. It won’t let me click on “external” (mic source) even tho the option is there. I’m connecting the rode wireless go receiver to my iPhone via usb-c to lighting connection. Is there something I’m doing wrong? Do you know if the rode wireless go ii is compatible with the zy cami app?

Looks like it's a great gimbal and the integrated light is brilliant. But (@15:48) seeing how the cable of the adapter is bent to plug in an external microphone, and how the phone then sits in the gimbal... at least from the picture, this looks like a no-go.
You can get right angle adapter… I have it now…

I read on fb that it is not so close. filmic pro needs zhiyun to release an SDK in order to work on compatibility

Yes it is correct. They have to communicate back and forth and rewrite each button. This might take few months as I was told

Hey Zdenka! How would you say this video performs filming vertical videos on phones? I create vertical content for social media and haven't been finding many people talking about the vertical capabilities!
I think this one performs well in vertical mode. Truthfully, I don’t shoot in vertical mode much as I shoot everything in horizontal so I can use it on all kinds of platforms.

Zdenka, I love your review, and I have finally ordered the smooth5 combo version. However, after installed and registered with the prime redemption card, my zy cami still do not have the Auto/Manual mode. Any idea you may have? Thanks.
If you have Android there might be limitations with certain phones. It is best to contact their customer support for any help.

Yes, you can use it with the native camera app but you are not going to be able to use zoom wheel or focus wheel. There is a dedicated app called StaCam, which will get you all those controls.
Wonder if the smooth 5 Bluetooth connection is better than the smooth Q3 with Android. I had to give up,using the q3 after a few weeks . Bluetooth never stayed connected on 4 different androids. I did whatapp Customer service , to ask this question. No reply .

Hi Zdenka, I have a Smooth 5 (and Smooth Q4, but that more a toy). Is there a way to have AE/AF lock working in ZY Camy on Android? I get the AE lock window but it fades after a few seconds. Even if I keep pressing it, or double press it, or press, release and the press again. In the few seconds I can adjust the exposure just fine, but when the yellow window fades my exposure is back to auto. In StaCam AE/AF lock works for both focus and exposure. Kind regards.
Hello Joeri… interesting name… Unfortunately it is the way you are describing. Every android will be different and some might not be that compatible.

1. Im looking for a gimbal that will hold the iPhone 13 pro Max, be able to fit the lightening cable to connect my Rode Wireless transmitter.
2. the gimbal must have some type of active track for filming walk by shots when im hiking.

Hello. I am finding that the zoom control does not work when live streaming with RTMP (through TH-cam) using the YZ Cami app and that the StaCam app does not have a live streaming capability. Was hoping to use the Smooth 5 gimbal to help support live streaming sporting events. Am I missing something? Thank you for all your assistance.
That is all unfortunately correct… there are limitations when it comes to live streaming
Adding a monopod - even collapsed gives more balance and stability and allows two hands for rock-solid steadiness. Less tiring to control too.

@@ZdenkaDarula I'm your strict follower. Please also show the external microphone in your next gimbal videos. Do the motors on the gimbal interfere or not, this is really important.
Thanks for your review. I recently purchased the Smooth 5 when Amazon had a flash sale for $140 usd. When using the StaCam app wheel with my Samsung S20, I get a noise that sounds like a Geiger counter when zooming and focusing. I must mute the volume if preforming either of those functions. The ZY Cami app doesn't make the noise but will only zoom and doesn't work for manually adjusting focus. I'm curious if others have experience similar. The s20 is not listed as supported but works fine except for that weird annoying issue.
I think you should check with them if you don’t have a faulty product. That shouldn’t happen
I believe using the wheel for Focus is only possible in StaCam (not in CAMI). Zoom can be done in both CAMI and StaCam. This is explained in the User Guide. I have no idea about geiger counter sounds! Is the gimbal updated to the latest Firmware, and your phone has latest app versions?
@@jimprior180762 yes all updated. Zhiyun had me send videos. One showing the static that occurs with StaCam and another showing no static with ZYCami. They also needed all info firmware etc on phone and gimbal. Perhaps they will eventually provide an update or maybe not. The static does not occur on my Apple SE though.
Do you have haptic feedback turned on in your s20 settings, I wonder if the phone is buzzing or clicking in response to the graduation of the zoom/focus wheel? It could be something like that if you say it stops when you turn your phones volume down.
@@jimprior180762 Yippie! I turned off all of the haptic settings and no static! I went back and switched all but "touch interaction" back on and static stayed off! Thank you for the suggestion! Funny how the problem was only with the StaCam and did not manifest in ZYCami.

Hi Zdenka! I've been watching so many of your videos, subscribed, and finally bought the Smooth 5 to use with my current iPhone XR (to learn it before I upgrade to iPhone 13). I am not too bad with tech stuff, but I cannot seem to get the Smooth 5 to charge. I have tried the supplied cord in the charger I use daily for my iPhone and iPad, and I have also tried plugging the Smooth 5 USB into my computer. When I press the power button, I see a blinking red PF light, but otherwise I see all 5 white lights lit at once for a couple seconds, alternating with the white PF flashing briefly, then PF blinks red and the line goes dark. My first clue was that it wouldn't do the firmware update through the app when connected with the phone because it said "less than 50% charged". Also the bluetooth won't hold the connection between the phone and the Smooth 5 .. "device disconnected" and the bluetooth icon appears on the phone screen.
Can someone please tell me what I am missing here, because I am stuck even before step one ... please help! Thanks so much!!
Thank you very much for your comment. This seems to me like this could be actually a faulty product. These things you should certainly discuss with their technical support. I would contact them right away from the app or from their website

Which gimbal would you recommend for a Samsung S22 Ultra? Keeping in mind the phone's weight and Android 12. I've looked at DJI OM 5, but I'm uncertain.
To be very honest this is very difficult to answer. Every single android will have different compatibility. I never had this phone and I never was able to test it with any of the gimbals so I cannot tell you which gimbal is compatible. As far as weight goes, you should be fine with most of them. I would strongly suggest looking up on TH-cam someone who is reviewing gimbals with the type of phone you have.

Are all of these digital zoom for Android? I can't figure out how to get the optical zoom to work in either of these apps or filmicpro.

I am experiencing some issues and I hope you can help me. I am using Smooth 5 with my Xiaomi phone. However, when I use the Cami and Stacam apps, my recorded videos are shaky and not stabilized. On the other hand, when I use the native camera app of the phone, the video is stabilized. But, there is a problem with the native camera app as some of the gimbal buttons do not work.
Do you have any recommendations on how I can fix this issue?
When it comes to buttons, it is common that they are not working with native camera app. It is like that but all gimbals. When it comes to stabilization, check settings in Zhiyun app if you don’t have that off
Can any confirm for me if this gimbal is compatible with my Pixel 6 Pro?

Yes you should be fine with that phone
When I use the zy cami, the video is shaky, and when I use the native app on the phone, I get a better quality footage, it could be my phone (Xiaomi 9T) or you think it's the app that is free. Thanks.
There is stabilization button in the ZY cami app you need to turn on
Zdenka, thank you for this subject, Zhiyun smooth 5 looks very promising if we download these two apps. Having said that, I read a lot of privacy concerns about using this apps--personal info, access to all photos, and location for instance. I'm interested with your opinion. And I also heard that gimbals are no longer dealing with androids. Is that right?
Gimbals are dealing with androids but there are always limitations…. Unfortunately the Gimbal makers don’t get access to cameras hardware from many Android makers
@@ZdenkaDarula Based on what you just wrote I'll be selling my DJI OM4se, still sealed unopened. I have an android phone and many other reviewers said the same as you and Apple is just too dominant in this market. I'm really annoyed.
@@benou459 the problem is that Android phone makers don’t allow access to cameras so those gimbal makers cannot program it all… apple is only one system which gives access…, I hope this makes sense… it is not the fault of gimbal companies

You can use any gimbal outside of their app. The focus wheel won’t work though

Thanks a lot! I have a S10+ and the ZYCami wasn't working fine. StaCam is much better! But i can't switch to the telephoto lens and i noticed that in yours doesn't apears that option too. Why is that?
