- It's been a long time since I posted the video before. This time,I will show you the "practice edition" of HAKU style leather skiving technique.
I uploaded a video about leather skiving before, but thank you for the unexpectedly large response (a little surprised). Last time, I had conceptual content such as what I was conscious of and what I was careful about, so this time I would like to introduce specific tips for hand skiving that I usually do in production. As usual, it is a self-study and self-styled method, but I hope it will be a hint for your creation.

This is one of the best and most informative leather video's I have seen. I am a blade smith and do all my own leather work. I couldn't find a good skiving knife for a price I could afford so I made my own . Now with some practice I will be able to actually properly use it. Such wisdom shared freely is a rare and fine thing, Thank you!

One of the best skiving videos I've ever seen. I use a Vergez-Blanchard skiver. I wonder if your type is better? Thanks for doing this video!

カードケースのパーツ(Tシャツみたいな形をしたパーツ)を漉く時にいつも苦労していたので、入りズミの漉き方とても勉強になりました！
あと、私も空き瓶の曲線を利用して漉いていたので、「おぉ！HAKUさんもやってる！」って嬉しくなっちゃいました😊

私はダイソーで売ってる、おゆぷら粘土(お湯で柔らかくなって常温ですぐ固まる粘土)を作業台と瓶の浮いたスペースに挟み込んで成形固定したものを使ってます。コロコロせず安定していいですよ♪

漉きはやはり彫刻刀だけではなく、革包丁があった方がいいでしょうか？
コメントありがとうございます！私個人的には、漉きに関してはスカイバー、セーフティベベラーと色々と漉き専用工具を試して、結局革包丁が一番使いやすいと感じています。ただ砥石も必要だし、刃を研がないといけないので結構導入ハードル高いんですよね…😓

I tried this with 3mm milled leather, boy was i in hell. I think it only works with the right leather thickness and hardness. Doesn't work on soft and stretchy leather.. i might need to buy a skiving machine, time to save up!
Thank you for your comment. Certainly it may be exactly what you say. I usually use leather less than 2mm thick 😓For thick leather, other solutions may be needed.

ヘリ漉き練習中です。
皮包丁も青鋼で天然砥石で研いでいます。
裁断は全く問題ないのですが漉きがうまくいきません。
革がボロボロと削れ粉だらけになります。
皮包丁の研ぎの角度はどれくらいですか？
動画を見ているとほとんど力が入っておらずスッと切れるように見えます。
実際力加減はどれくらいですか？
うまくいかないのは研ぎが悪いのかやり方が悪いのか悩んでいます。
一応研ぎは問題ないと思っているのですがもしかしたら角度が間違っているのか。
ご教授いただけるとありがたく存じます。

刃先の角度は正確に測る術がないのですが、分度器を当ててみるとだいたい13-14度くらいです。力はそれほど入れていませんが、刃先が浮かないように右手中指で下方向に抑えるようにはしています。
アリゾナのような繊維の柔らかいシボ革を漉くと、漉きクズがつながらずボロボロと粉のようになることもありますが、そういった種類の革でなければ刃先が革に切り込んでいないという事ですよね…。裁断で問題ないのであれば、考えられるのは、
・包丁を動かす際にしゃくってしまって刃先が浮いている
・しのぎ面が平坦でない（いわゆるハマグリ刃）ために、やはり刃先が浮いてしまっている
・包丁の持ち方と刃先の角度がマッチしていない
といった理由が考えられるかと思います。
こちらの動画を観て頂くと原因究明のヒントになるかもしれません。

What kind of knife do you use? Where can I get it?
I use a Japanese leather knife named "HIDETSUGU". The blade width is 39mm. Check out the link here. leathercrafttools.com/item/12965/

Do you mean the angle of the cutting edge? I've never measured it accurately, but I think it's probably about 13 -14 degrees.
