  • If you are tired of gummy mashed potatoes or, even worse, boxed potatoes? If you are, then this video is for you. In this video, I will show you how to make mashed potatoes just like my Momma taught me back home in Kentucky. P.S. We gonna use plenty of butter; it's the south. 😁

    🔪 Prep Time: 10 Minutes
    ⏲ Cook Time: 20 minutes
    ==========================
    00:00 Beginning
    02:45 Cleaning the potatoes
    03:39 Peeling the potatoes
    04:17 Cutting the potatoes
    04:43 Boiling the potatoes
    05:10 Putting it all together
    Ingredients:
    5lbs/2.27kg Russett Potatoes
1/4lb/113.8g Butter (Real Butter, not Margarine)
    1 Tbsp/15mL Black Pepper
    1 Cup/250mL Whole Milk
    3 Tbsp/45mL Salt
    3 Tbsp/45mL Minced Garlic
    Uncle Bird's Southern-Style Mashed Potatoes
1). Use a vegetable brush and water to clean your potatoes.
2). After the potatoes are cleaned, peel them using a potato peeler.
3). Cut the potatoes into similar-sized chunks and place them in a clean water pot to prevent browning. Make sure you cut them up the same size, so they finish cooking around the same time.
4). Pour out the water and fill the pot with clean water. Add 1 Tbsp salt and 1 Tbsp Minced Garlic to the boil water.
5). Place on the stove and turn on to medium-high; bring to a rapid boil.
6). Cook for about 15-20 minutes until the potatoes are fork-tender and break apart easily.
7). Strain water from the cooked potatoes and place them back on the stove.
8). Add one cup of Whole Milk.
9). Cut up and add 1/4lb Butter.
10). Add 1 Tbsp Black Pepper.
11). Add 2 Tbsp Minced Garlic
    12). Add 2 Tbsp Salt
13). Use a Hand Blender without power to start mashing and mixing the potatoes. Once the ingredients are mixed, use your hand blender on the lowest setting to mix everything up. (ONLY USE THE LOWEST SETTING)
14). Add salt to taste if necessary. Otherwise, use your spatula to make everything pretty before serving. Enjoy.

Hey Uncle Bird - great video as always!! I have a quick question unrelated to this video.
How long do you brine your turkeys? I believe in your turkey video you mentioned 48 hours, but wanted to make sure. I just want to make sure it’s not supposed to be for only 24 hours. Thanks again! Always look forward to your content!!

I brine for 48 hours. Also I don't cook turkeys any bigger than 16 lbs.

Uncle B, how do I get the Missus to put some garlic in her mashed potatoes without ending up on the couch? 😂
