I love this channel. If you want another movie with Gene Simmons as the villain I recommend Runaway. It stars Tom Selleck as a cop that investigates crimes involving robots. Gene Simmoms plays a sleazy businessman in that and he's just as good (bad?) as he is in this. Keep up the good work.

This was the start of John Stamos, the peak of Vanity, and a very troubling time in the career of Gene Simmons. KISS took a different turn, lost the makeup for a bit there, and Gene was lost until the late '80s. It's hard to believe he doesn't drink or do drugs after watching this.
This is the kind of movie an actor would make after being in a cheesy, family friendly sitcom to try and shed the squeaky clean image but John made this before which is actually pretty cool.

It not only bombed at the box-office, but was shunned by its own co-star, Gene Simmons. Years later, when a fan recognized him as "Velvet Von Ragnar", Simmons exclaimed "Don't tell me you SAW that thing!" The hermaphrodite angle was a later addition to the script. Whenever a fan compliments Gene Simmons on this movie, he's been known to respond, "You are too kind. I sucked in that movie." John Stamos took gymnastic lessons for his role as Lance Stargrove. The costume Gene Simmons wears for his nightclub act, is actually the same costume that Lynda Carter wore for her 1980 television special ENCORE!, in which she tried to look like a member of the band KISS while singing "I Was Made for Loving You". Some of the lyrics from Simmons' nightclub act scene would later show up in "Spit," a song from the 1992 Kiss album "Revenge." One of my favorite weird 80s flicks. I worked at Blockbuster and this was always a popular Friday night rental that I didn't understand ... until I saw it myself. Just watching your expressions as things unfolded was worth the watch.
What a strange movie. In regards to Vanity and her "acting," she was definitely on drugs when doing this as well as Action Jackson later on. She turned her life around and became a born again Christian but sadly died in 2016 at age 57 of kidney failure brought on by years of drug use. Branscombe Richmond has played a TON of villains in his career. Honestly the only good guy role I can think of that he's done was indeed in the show Renegade. Everything else I've seen him in he's getting his ass kicked by the hero, be it Chuck Norris in Hero and the Terror, Carl Weathers in Action Jackson, and even Steven Seagal in Hard to Kill. The guy has had a great career playing villains.

I had to iMDB this movie after watching this. When I saw the director's name, Gil Bettman, I thought, "That sounds really familiar." Turns out, he was one of my film professors at Chapman University. His class was great! Our class was in the University movie theater and we would watch a movie each week with a Q&A, usually with the director, editor, or writer of the film. Chinatown (Robert Towne), Rat Race (Jerry Zucker), The Mummy Returns (Stephen Sommers), etc. I can't wait to watch "Never Too Young To Die" in full. Thanks for the great episode!

I love that this movie is getting rediscovered. I was one of the crowd of people who saw it in their childhood and were either wondering what the hell was that or thinking it was a fever dream. I did learned the word hermaphrodite from this movie at the age of seven so it's educational, too.

This movie feels like an alternate universe when Uncle Jesse is with Vanity instead of Aunt Becky, and they both fight against Gene Simmons instead of dealing with family issues. I also remember the scene where the motorcycle blew up when a drunk conveniently tries to take it for a joy ride. I had the same thing when you watched American Ninja 3. Peter Kwong! The same year as this film, he was Rain in Big Trouble in Little China. Two years after this one, he had a guest spot on Full House, as a dentist. And that's basically the pattern of his career, from what I can gather. He's a legit martial artist, so one wonders why he didn't go on to have a crazy-awesome action-schlock career.

I have a full-body shot of Gene as Velvet Von Ragnar which he autographed for me during KISS Kruise XI. He beamed from ear to ear on what a smoking hot babe he was in that photo and showed it off to everyone in the room. I’ve also got at least four rave reviews from that movie in my collection. One of them goes thusly, “Velvet Von Ragnar - one of the all-time badass bad girls of the 1980s. So what if she just happens to be a he?”
While this came before it I did love the "James Bond Jr." cartoon in the early 90's and since we never got an official live action, this and "If Looks Could Kill" was always my live action James Bond Jr. movies and i LOVED both of them :)

As always this video is a great weekend treat. I've got a couple of movies to suggest: Split Second with Rutger Hauer. I watched this again recently and its still great, trashy fun. Another is One Tough Bastard with Brian Bosworth. I've never seen it but the title always made me laugh when I saw it in my local video store. Hopefully the movie is as good as the title.

Very happy you put the clip of Rain in here as Big Trouble in Little China is my favorite movie of all time. Hurt my heart a little when Robert England and Peter Kwong just got a meh at the start. Hook was good as a kid, it's been a long time so not sure if it holds up. If you ever get the chance they made a beat'em up arcade game for Hook that does hold up.
This one was definitely worth the wait! This is one of those movies that you have to see with friends (or watch someone else watching it)! It's just so goofy on so many levels! It's too bad there wasn't a sequel! One of those movies that definitely needs a bigger cult following! And it had Vanity! You can't go wrong with Vanity!

Peter Kwong! The same year as this film, he was Rain in Big Trouble in Little China. Two years after this one, he had a guest spot on Full House, as a dentist. And that's basically the pattern of his career, from what I can gather.
He's a legit martial artist, so one wonders why he didn't go on to have a crazy-awesome action-schlock career.

Vanity showing off her bod, didn't hurt either. Ha!
Wait a minute ! I recognize that outfit Gene Simmons had on ! The leotard with the pink boa feathered headdress ! Lynda Carter wore that in in a special she had in the '80's ! And the skit she wore it in she was a member of the rock group KISS ! Maybe it's a copy of it , 'cause I can't imagine Gene and Lynda being the same size !

I have a full-body shot of Gene as Velvet Von Ragnar which he autographed for me during KISS Kruise XI. He beamed from ear to ear on what a smoking hot babe he was in that photo and showed it off to everyone in the room. I’ve also got at least four rave reviews from that movie in my collection. One of them goes thusly, “Velvet Von Ragnar - one of the all-time badass bad girls of the 1980s. So what if she just happens to be a he?”

My dad (God rest his soul) always thought it was "Secret Asian Man".
While this came before it I did love the "James Bond Jr." cartoon in the early 90's and since we never got an official live action, this and "If Looks Could Kill" was always my live action James Bond Jr. movies and i LOVED both of them :)
This one made my day! The taco bit was priceless, the movie was ridiculous, and from the second you called attention to beard guy as being Gene I was with you Jason. Now I'm ready to start my garbage day at work...at least it will start with a smile. Thank you all! HUUUUUURRRRRRRR!!!!!!

As always this video is a great weekend treat. I've got a couple of movies to suggest: Split Second with Rutger Hauer. I watched this again recently and its still great, trashy fun. Another is One Tough Bastard with Brian Bosworth. I've never seen it but the title always made me laugh when I saw it in my local video store. Hopefully the movie is as good as the title.

Very happy you put the clip of Rain in here as Big Trouble in Little China is my favorite movie of all time. Hurt my heart a little when Robert England and Peter Kwong just got a meh at the start. Hook was good as a kid, it's been a long time so not sure if it holds up. If you ever get the chance they made a beat'em up arcade game for Hook that does hold up.
This one was definitely worth the wait! This is one of those movies that you have to see with friends (or watch someone else watching it)! It's just so goofy on so many levels! It's too bad there wasn't a sequel! One of those movies that definitely needs a bigger cult following! And it had Vanity! You can't go wrong with Vanity!
Actually there IS a script for a sequel in existence. It’s in my collection. Oh what they do to Gene in THAT one! Evil laughter! Here’s a hint: while it’s extremely rare for a hermaphrodite to get pregnant--it DOES happen! Congratulations, Velvet! You beat the odds!
