I'm itching for a new Etrian Odyssey on Switch. A few months back ATLUS sent out some surveys about the etrian series so many they are considering doing something with it soon.
I loved demon gaze 1 and 2 and labyrinth of refrain. Gonna buy those 2 games in one pack, that's cool of them. Just waiting my salary cuz atm it's kinda dry in terms of jrpg. Thanks for your review!
After playing Spirit Hunter NG (and loving the artwork), I really want to play Strangers of Sword City, but I think I would prefer the heavier story in Savior first.
I'm a *HUGE* EXP inc fan, and I've played just about all their games I can get my hands on. Even Ray Gigant. I especially love Demon Gaze 2, so yeah. Looking forward to it... especially Saviors! ...Crap, I hope they port Demon Gaze 1 & 2...
I personally prefer Operation Babel and Ray Giant to Sword City... I hope they port Ray Gigant, the one I haves Limited Run.. I mean for now it's just a collector's item. But then there's the entire Shin Megami to be ported and probably they should do that first.
If you have a 3DS, your best bet is Etrian Odyssey V. If you don’t have a 3DS, get one and EOV. I just started SoSW, seems like an okay starting place.
@@kidrobot. Hey man sorry for replying to an old comment but I'm really interested in this game. How hard is it? I played a bit of Wizardry on PS3 and really enjoyed (a bit of dungeon rpgs on psp as well) but I don't like to have an "optimal" party, do I need to mim-max everything in this game or can I play with any party I want and train them to beat the game?
@@WellPlayedDetective when you start out its kinda hard because there are one shot enemies in the 1st level. but when you get the hang of things and start to gring for equipment(thats how you get better stuff, shops dont sell good things) you'll have a much easier time. it should be smooth sailing from there till end game, the bosses and some of the optional bosses are hard. also, 2 of the levels are hard as well, one level you travel underwater and its kind of like a maze, and there's another level in an ice place where you'll slide into one direction till you hit a wall(which is also like a maze). lastly, you don't really need to min-max anything. each class has 3 traits that you should focus up leveling on, gamefaqs has a list i think.
They usually have an optimal party comp that goes: Tank Fighter Assassin-Type (The name of this one varies but it's usually a samurai-like char with katanas that can attack a whole line at once) Mage Healer Free Slot (Usually an archer is good.)
Since when did we suddenly start calling these things "DRPGs"? The genre has been around for 40 years and now we've suddenly decided to start calling them that? I prefer just "Dungeon Crawler", "Gridder", "Wizardry-like", or, preferably, "Blobber"!
Now that most vita exclusives have been ported I hope they also port things like Ray Giant that was frankly much better than Sword City. Mary Skelter has been ported already, also in my opinion a much better game. But of course they should port Shin Megami first. Anyway I agree with the review these are also a buy (on a sale tho).
Are you sure you are talking to the same game? I am looking at this and it looks like it came straight from 1995! Just a slideshow graphic with the most boring 3d word ewer!
More like why is there never any field or environment. Just bland spacious cubes very boring. And why does the player character move like that? No diagonal movement direction? Super lazy games😪
@@user-ng1yu7io4r Yeah... And they do, on their own way... I don't like the game, but I'm at least somewhat realistic with dungeon crawlers man. Expectations for these games are always on the low end because there is not much they can do on the genre.
That's like calling all turn-based combat lazy because there's real-time, all linear since you can do hub or open world instead. They're all just different mechanics. Not too sure about these games, but Mary Skelter had all sorts of environmental puzzles to complete and difficulty curves that had to be overcome w/ smart use of debuffs and timing your support skills properly (though the game was overall much too easy). Some games have complex verticality and movement mechanics, other games might focus on narrative or combat elements instead.
That is not true, try Bard's tale 4 on ps4 for example, it is a dungeon crawler and quite fancy at that. Apart from the fact that even Dark Souls is at its core a Dungeon Crawler (in 3rd person).
Are you here because of the VGP reprint 😊😀
I am lmao
Yup!
You mutha
don't know what that is
I love games like this. Etrian is my favorite series but I'm always looking for good team building dungeon crawlers
Same! Its unfortunate that the genre is so barren

Labrynth of refrain: Coven of Dusk
Nice to know Saviors of Sapphire has more of a story, I've always loved Experience games but they usually don't have much of one at all.

It's really great to see these type of dungeon crawlers getting released on console. 👻
I purchased this game earlier today on amazon because of this review. Thanks noisy pixel! 😀
Noisy pixel once again coming thru on the obscure jrpg niche game review. Tyvm

Operation Babel was fun, true.
Messing with main and sub blood code combos was *AWESOME!*
Do you recommend this game as a start point for someone who never got into this kind of RPG?
yes this collection is a great starting point - Jahan
no, theyre pretty hard and vague. if you have a 3ds, id recommend the etrian odyssey games(they have an easy mode)
If you have a 3DS, your best bet is Etrian Odyssey V. If you don’t have a 3DS, get one and EOV.

Which other games like this one do you guys recommend playing on the switch? Thanks!
Mary Skelter series
Can't wait to finally try it.
How much grindy do these games get? Also do I need to fall back on guides often for optimal party?
very grindy and lots of backtracking. A bit of trial and error to figure out the best class in stranger, more streamlined in saviors - Jahan
They usually have an optimal party comp that goes:
Tank Fighter Assassin-Type (The name of this one varies but it's usually a samurai-like char with katanas that can attack a whole line at once)
Mage Healer Free Slot (Usually an archer is good.)
I bought this physically. I also have stranger of sword city on vita physically. Great game.
Which would you recommend to play first??
Well I would say Strangers, but that’s because I enjoy the dark fantasy - Azario
@@NoisyPixelNews I encountered a bug in the tower, couldn't progress anymore
wtf ?! is that at 1:00 minute of the video ?!! hehehe . tanx 4 the rev yo

they dont own smt though.
WAIT. KNIGHTS OF THE ROUND?! YOU MEAN THIS IS THE PREQUAL TO DEMON GAZE?!
Yeeeees. I think so lol
"xbox exclusives in japan" aka choosing to be a instant flop lol
same gameplay as SMT series huh
nope. well not the mainline games
made with rpg maker?
no.
Please pronounce Niche as Neesh, it's a French word if that helps make sense
that doesnt help
