We had outdoor chickens, five of them, and each had their own personality. They all knew their names. They were really smart and got a heck of a lot of love and attention. Two of them that lived the longest were 11 years old when they passed away. The others were also over nine years old. We really miss them!❤🐓

Yep chickens do have personalities I really love the personalities of Roosters I have five Roosters and they're all really sweet two of them I hatched and they're very tiny and sweet and they love the crow when I hold them one of them was given to me because person was not allowed to have Roosters and he's pretty curious and shy and the other two are ginormous and I found them in the middle of the road and all they are are just big sweetie pies

Talk about being in the right place at the right time! Penelope is adorable. Chickens are so misunderstood. They deserve respect just like any other living creature. I'm glad that she's now safe and will never go hungry, nor find herself stuck outside in the cold. ❤️
I;m realizing that most animals are misunderstood .. the food industry has lied to us for a very long time. I quit eating all land animals and only have wild fish and only do that for some health benefits.. i'm starting to feel that's cruel too. It makes me sick seeing a semi truck driving down the road FULL of chickens on their way to death😥if you look at them, you can actually see them staring back at you while driving next to the truck..it can't do it anymore!
@@loumason6120 you are so right, once i started seeing how the food industry treats animals, chickens in cages so small that they can’t even stand up. i eat fish as well, but am trying to get to just a plant based diet. Healthier for me, better for the planet. It really bothers me that animals have no voice, no protection. I’m trying to find an organization that i can get involved in, but i live in a small town surrounded by farming. I’m in Canada - I’m going to try goggle and see what i can find. If anyone knows of a trusted organization please let me know, thanks!
@Lou Mason I couldn't have said it better! So true, all creatures are sentient beings. Not just humans, I completely agree. We humans are so not in tune with how it all should be. It makes my heart so sad. I do believe that it's best to keep away from all meats. 100%

@@kari3368 Plenty of people are lifelong vegetarians and perfectly healthy. There are lots of vegetarian proteins. Very tasty food. Only thing to avoid is overeating sweets and fats.
Chickens make AMAZING pets/family members. They are very loving, and actually quite clever. I’m so very happy this sweetpea has found safety. They have found their soulmates in each other!
If only more people would step in and help others in need like this the world would be a much better place.

Rhode Island Red hens aren’t typically used for meat. She was probably apart of someone’s large flock and she was probably chased by a predator and that’s why she’s alone. Not much food grows around the street and chickens don’t typically wander away from their territory. They explore areas until they know it well enough to call it their own

@@ufosrus I rarely respond to comments, because there’s just too many. Just a FYI: actually I don’t eat chicken. It makes me physically sick. Everyone has different biological needs and some people don’t do well with certain foods. I personally do best with a Mediterranean lifestyle. 30% of Only protein’s from the ocean & the rest is plant based protein. I started out vegetarian for 2 years, transitioned to vegan for 2 years, then figured out the need for better brain health and balanced omega-3’s (60% EPA & 40% DHA) and unfortunately the plant based omega-3s doesn’t have that ratio balance yet. So for my own biological needs I started eating salmon and taking fish oil again.
Everyone has to try different things to figure out what works best for them.
That being said: I love chickens as ONLY pets, backyard free range, organic free range farms & I hate what commercial farms do to them.

She is so cute! And lucky to have such a sweet humans to rescue her. Now Penny is dad's special guest on his job as a weatherman, I've never heard those soft sounds she made, since I didn't grew up close to chickens\hens, it's almost like a purr. Now she rules the house, mom and dad.

I grew up on a farm, and had a pet chicken called Tootsie. Chickens are wonderful, curious and she would follow me around every where, i loved her! I’m happy to hear about how Penny has been such a great addition to your family.I think for lots of people, It’s really good to have a happy animal in our lives!

I’m struggling to see the divine part. Humans exist, chickens exist, chickens wander around, and human brains usually produce more seratonin in the presence of pets. I’m not seeing anything that couldn’t happen naturally.

I have been saying for years how sweet and soothing chickens can be. I’ve always spoiled my birds and they would sometimes even climb in my lap and take a nap. I would tell people that chicken therapy needs to be a thing because they are so soothing.

We have 10 laying chicks since last year. Chickens are really funny and endearing. If you're hesitating on getting chickens, don't. They're really easy to take care of and it's really rewarding to take care of them. They eat the bugs veggies and give you eggs and fertilizer in return.
This is the sweetest thing I've ever seen! I wish David continued health and Penelope a long wonderful life with two of the greatest people!

I found a chicken on the highway years ago. There was a cage that had fallen off the back of a truck and about a dozen dead chickens. Anyway I took her home and she became part of the family. She sat in the backyard during the day and in a pen in the basement at night. When I would get home from work she would come to see me at the gate and get her jowl scratches and neck rubs. It was amazing the connection you can establish with any animal really but chickens look dumb but in truth are pretty sharp and long lived.
People should know that chickens can be really lovely pets..💖

We had a chicken suddenly show up at our house and she was the most wonderful thing. She'd only sleep in our trees and we'd let her in the garage when it was raining. She was also baby sitter for all the neighborhood ducklings. I cried so much when she passed away.

We actually got 8 chicks to start raising for the first time and our 2 Blue Laced Wyandottes are so confident and chill compared to the rest at 5-6 weeks now. Definitely know they'll be just like this when they're older with how much time I try spending with them all. So sweet and always falling asleep in my palms if I let them lol

So kind of you to rescue her. There’s a touch of magic in meeting her - she needed out of that blizzard and into a home, and you needed something positive to focus on during your own troubles. Love this! We have an indoor, disabled chicken. She follows me around like this when I take her outside to enjoy nice weather. I've had normal, out door chickens before in the past and although I'm an animal lover, I never knew how much is fall in love with them when I first got them! I feel like they are therapy for sure.

Chickens are very much like dogs. I had a rooster as a kid and raised him from a chick. He followed me around like a dog and just loved attention.

What a twist of fate for a double rescue. Congrats to you both. I usually say "tail wags" as I watch mostly dog rescues. In honor of Penny let me say for the first time "shake your tail feathers!!"
We had 4 chickens and it amazed us how unique their personalities were. One, we called her baby, was just like a baby, she was a lap chicken and just loved being held and cuddled and pet. Then there was Stalina-named after dictator Joseph Stalin=she was definitely the top of the pecking order and everyone knew it and woe the chicken that challenged her. Then Brownie who was our escape artist. The coop was an ongoing project because every time her escape hatch was closed, she found a new way to get out. We'd find her up on the road,at the neighbors or just sitting outside the coop=I think she just wanted to get away from Stalina. Then there was Freckles. She was just real chill, went around doing her own thing but was real loving and liked attention if she could every get Baby to get out of the way. I urge everyone to get a few chickens and really get to know them and the eggs are great!
I actually had a chicken at my front door during the last blizzard in Buffalo, NY! We never knew where she came from, but we have wild turkeys, so I'm not surprised lol. Gave her to SPCA to be with the rest of her group they found
