I wholeheartedly agree! He is my favorite character with Clive and Baranabas as close seconds. I knew I would like him from the second trailer before the game released months ago. He deserved a better ending than he got!
I mean I like that aspect but I think it was a bit too comedic considering he was causing explosions in his own ranks so really they should have been hoping he can aim.
@@burntgrahamcracker2866 his initial attack actually aims for the mountains, none of his initial lasers directly hit the battlefield. it's only when odin counters his lasers that they hit the battlefield, so it wasn't directly caused by him. he retreated after that presumably because he knew it would keep being reflected back onto his men.
Dion, Gav and uncle Byron are the real MVPs and Dion has the best arc of all of them , and his theme is amazing as well , it reflects his personality, bravery, sadness, determination.
Technicaly it's never confirmed they dont have their happy after. Only implied Dion died. Not proven. So untill the day they give is a clear canon ending, you can asume the happy ending is canon. They all lived in my world. Dion is a dragoon, they dont take fall damage. He survived, but he did get knocked out and he did lose grip on bahamut in the end. Joshua did die, but with Clive casting raise with Ultima's power, Joshua was brought back to live, just still unconcious right after. Clive was dying on the beach, but magic dissapeared before he was petrified alltogether and he only lost an arm. Joshua finnished his book. He and Dion became two of the new rulers to help shape the world after the loss of magic and bring stability to the people after the chaos of being leaderless. Dion and Terrance remained together and adopted medicine girl. Who becomes the princess heir because Dion gives 0 fs about bloodlines. And they lived happily ever after. (As far as one can be happy having to deal with politics, rebuilding a chaotic world with confused people. They have to deal with the aftermath of the blight, the loss of magic, the past of war and the fact that all the slaves are now all regular people like everyone else, but still have those deadly tats to remind them of how they where treated.. and all the different factions that would rise from that. Like whole subcultures and stuff. Even alive Dion and Joshua would have a lot of drama to deal with.. and they wont have eikons to help them anymore either. Old fashioned combat now.. and still monsters around a plenty. So yeah.. happy ever after is still not all rainbows and unicorns here. That world will need ALL the help it can get.

They are quite similar and a bit opposite in some ways. But they do have that respect for each other. I saw that Dion and Joshua seemed to be good friends with each other as they knew each other since childhood. Funny how they ended up also being stepbrothers.
I also love how this game represented ALL loves and affections as "normal." Homosexual or hetero, both were sincere, deeply caring, and full of feeling. Not sensationalized ("Look how edgy we are!") or stereotyped (gays flamboyant or over- "compensating" masculine). And the hetero men really embraced each other, showed physical affection (like touching the other's face even)--something we seem to deny hetero men without making it a big gay joke.
Dion is definitely in my top 5 of favorite characters in this game. 1. Clive 2. Cid 3. Joshua 4. Dion 5. Jill SPOILER BELOW and funny enough all of the top 4 sacrifice themselves for what they believe in.

The interesting thing about Dion is that in any other Final Fantasy game, he'd slot right into the role of the protagonist and main hero. He's an idealistic knight in shining armor whose kingdom falls victim to an evil overlord, leading him to rebel against it while also dealing with his own personal dark side. He fits right in with the archetype of FF heroes along the lines of Cecil, Celes, and Noctis. But in the world of FF16, that's just not the case for him.
I say that people can learn from each other. West learns from Japan how to make good chars, Japan follows the example of the rest of G7 and legalizes gay marriage. The happy ending that FF16 didn't give us.

yeah Dion somehow left the hideaway in between missions. I found out when I talked to the lovestruck npc near the infirmary, she was like the only one who acknowledged that he left
