    Lmao all the right wingers saying “sellout” but he’s literally been expressing the same political views his entire career

      @bram2115 7 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      I don't think he's a sellout, but i can see why some people would. Almost everyone is against Trump and now Eminem is also against him, which isn't original and people are thinking he is now like every other celebrity.

    • @84ShakaZulu
      @84ShakaZulu 7 ปีที่แล้ว +56

      He is like any other sane individual who sees what Trump says and does. There is really no way anyone can be positive about him, so this is not the usual hash tag celebrity trend BS, but an flat out insane divisive maniacal manchild President who desperately wants to be a banana republic dictator.
      Speaking against him, especially for a strong willed kinda outspoken guy that Eminem allways been, is nothing suprising.

      Don Draper can you explain? why would he want points from a community who accepted him along time ago. dont make much sense. sounds like an opinion u pulled from ur feelings. u only bring up the black community cuz hes white as if its wrong to support them cuz hes white. nigga eminem is from a black community he is a part of black culture called hip hop. he can hand points out

      Lmao, Bruh Despite Feminem's "heroic" stance for social justice, All he actually accomplished was drawing a line between his Core fanbase (which are mostly white suburban kids who are turned off by billboard mumble rappers) and attention-whore racist whiners who only listen to Eminem when he does a collab with Wayne, Big Sean or some other wack ass MC. Didn't this guy used to simply hate politics in general? Now all of a sudden he's coming to the aid of Hitlery fusing his freestyle with her general rhetoric. Truth is a huge demographic of his fanbase never actually resonated with Leftist or Mainstream belief systems. He doesn't know that now, but he bout to find out when his album doesn't achieve the numbers he desires.

    • @spencerholt2726
      @spencerholt2726 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      MusicisLife1121 Eminem has always been a liberal democrat... he openly voted for and praised Obama, he has always hated Republicans, it's not surprising AT ALL that he attacked Trump. Also, most "true" Eminem fans don't only listen to him when he does collabs with wack MCs. they're the ones who appreciate him as well as other greats like Nas, rakim, etc... most suburban white kids don't listen to those rappers now do they?

    • @MusicisLife1121
      @MusicisLife1121 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      spencer Holt Not quite. The NY Times recently posted an article showing em's demographic of fans...you may not want to hear this but a sizeable percentage of them actually did vote Trump or at the very least were neutral. Does that mean that he doesn't have a lot of Liberal fans? No. Just that he doesn't quite understand how far his reach goes in terms of loyal vs bandwagon fans. AND that he is very naive as to who actually makes up his core and who is buying his content.

    • @spencerholt2726
      @spencerholt2726 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      MusicisLife1121 I never said most of Em's fans were liberal. I said that Em himself has always hated Republicans, he voted for and praised Obama, so how is it surprising that he went after Trump? He knows his fanbase has a lot more white kids than most rappers; that doesn't change the fact that he hates who he hates and will speak his mind about it.

    Em has always spoke his mind. If it was "Mosh" or anything else, Em has never been afraid to speak his mind on politics. We should not be surprised that he'd be on the frontlines of what's going on. Em has always discussed his white privilege, and he has never ran from it. I'd be more shocked if he DIDN'T say anything. He uses his voice as a tool to bring enlightenment to address the white community about the social issues on his mind. Em will always be relevant and appreciated. Great VIDEO!!!!!! (PS- Notice Trump still said NOTHING about the cypher........his twitter fingers must be broken) Thank you Mr. Hunte!!!!!

      Digga Jones I think skill and being relatable led to his success, not his skin color. By your own standards shouldn't Machine Gun Kelly, Yelawolf, Token, G- easy and many other white rappers be owning the rap community and on the top. Shouldn't every White rapper be played on the radio all the time on the rap stations by your own logic? The answer is no because most people don't have an actual privilege over one another except for the top one percent. If you seriously think Eminem has white privilege, you need to check into an insane asylum. He is what many would call, hopeless. His mother abused drugs and he never had a father figure. He constantly moved and never had any friends because the black kids hated him. The black kids constantly bullied and beat the shit out of him growing up. His whole life he was beat up by others for no reason, while his home life sucked as he was broke as fuck living in a trailer park or shity house, his mother was on drugs while she also slipped him drugs and he had no father. Tell me where you see white privilege. He made it because of his skills not because of his race. If he did make it because of his race like you are claiming he would have quickly faded just like Vanilla Ice.

    • @memeeeeh
      @memeeeeh 7 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Yeah. That white privilege from a trailer park, right? Em got big because of his skill, not because he's white. And why should trump react to this? You want him to make a diss track about eminem?

  • @livingabstraction2206
    @livingabstraction2206 7 ปีที่แล้ว +63

    Mega props for Eminem for going after his own fanbase. As much as I usually can't stand the fact that often white artists, get more notoriety from doing black music than their black counterparts, Eminem I've always been a bit easy on because well he is incredibly self-aware about that.
    And in this day and age I'll take awareness over cowardly acting as if certain things don't affect you or that you're not connected to.

    I think a lot of people were jaded about this freestyle, but personally I’m super glad a white artist came out and “drew a line in the sand” like he did. More allies need to be bold like that. Eminem made one of the ballsiest decisions in my opinion because he knows that a significant portion of his fan base is white and republican, and he told them “fuck you” anyway.

    • @TheCompanyMan
      @TheCompanyMan  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Personal story: An older woman I knew from when I was younger posted the infowars response video to Eminem's Cypher. I direct messaged her on Facebook to have a discussion. For me, Eminem did affect political discourse in that he reached an audience that didn't feel the need to respond until now and that gave me the chance to respond to them. Props to Em and you Justin, great piece long time fan

    • @TheCompanyMan
      @TheCompanyMan  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks, Sean. That Infowars video rained all kinds of stereotypes. Calling Em a thug and "hood" and all kinds of craziness. It's also funny how many pissed off Em fans dropped videos rapping their responses. I was so close to adding an entire segment about it this week, but I consciously chose to make this episode much more focused than recent pieces.

      The Company Man It's ridiculous, the whole video was just him attacking Em's, Clinton's, and Kaepernick's characters as if that's a legitimate rebuttal to the criticisms against Trump. Lol that's next level irony, they're using the attention to start their rap career

    On the most important side of this:
    Eminem did all of that, and Trump didn't even bat an eye his way. One of my friends said it perfectly:
    "Trump is reluctant to attack a white male, but even a subtle dig by a woman (the mayor of San Jose when she complained about a lack of support as most of Puerto Rico is still without power and the death toll is rising) or minority (ex: Steph Curry saying he wasn’t sure if he would go to the White House) causes Trump to lash out."
    On the less important side socially, but super important hip hop wise:
    Mysonne, JID, and 6lack's freestyles are going unnoticed and its hurting my life right now. lol

    Eminem is one of the few if not the only celebrity who actually have the balls to go all out against people he don't like, and calling out his own fans is something no other celebrity had the balls to do, and that's why the right is so buthurt right now, calling him a sellout even tho he was always anti war and against the republicans especially Bush and now Trump, Eminem didn't do this for the upcoming album otherwise he wouldn't go against his own fans, and he also didn't do it to gain some sort of black or liberal appreciation because he never needed it or looked for it in his career, he was always an honest and blunt person who didn't care what people think of him, and The right just got their feelings hurt because Eminem is the only celebrity with credibility to say his opinion and people would actually respect and listen to, and he just said an opinion that they didn't like. so he became a sellout, because if he said hail Trump he would've became a national hero to the right wing

    Very good video yet again Justin. Another topic to really consider. The point you made, does Eminem have a hold on not just hip hop and music, but the whole of white America to really cause such a large scale change? Like you said, if someone said to me Eminem has more fans than the whole of hip hop, you'd understand, I would too. Dudes been in the game for 2 decades. I didn't hear about anything else from the BET awards apart from Eminem. Again his influence and stature pushed through. The White America track is still completely relevent today and parts on sing for the moment really made us think. He may just have the power to force a change.

    I'm glad you also believe Rabbit Run is his best track, it's a really slept on song. Eminem definitely has the ability to reach white music listeners who don't even care about rap music, which gives him a good opportunity to make his listeners challenge some of their thoughts. Great video like usual my man!

    I think his broad appeal makes his move even more risky and thus more powerful. Like you said, many rappers / celebrities have spoken out harshly against Trump, but their fans are part of the echo chamber. Chrissy Teigen isn't risking much clapping back at Trump on Twitter. But Eminem has a lot of Trump's base - low-mid income whites in Middle America, often without a college education. Em apparently has an album coming out in November and could have significantly just decreased his fanbase. Great example of using white privilege and being willing to accept the consequences that may come with it.

      Dan....EXACTLY! Very well said Sir. I have no idea what people are thinking when they say that he's promoting a new album or he's just adjusting to popular opinion. WTF? I've been reading Twitter for a week and half his supposed fans hate him now....so yes it absolutely it does take courage to speak out on any one side of politics once you are considered a POP famous artist....he just alienated half his base even with a new album coming. To me, that speaks more to his strong opinions and his character than any anterior motives that people like to tag on anyone who hates the idiot in office. Thanks for saying so well.

    I love when people say "I used to love Eminem but now that he's decided to go political/disrespect a president, I lost respect for him." Come on, really? When did he get political, in 2000? Maybe even earlier, so when did you love Eminem, in his Infinite era, when you didn't even know about him? Can't believe this people think they were fans but never heard Mosh or any other Bush disses. Bush was also a president, right?

ALL those white people that loved Eminem hating on conservatives when they where 18 are in their mid 30's now, probably mid to upper class white people who now only care about tax breaks and interest rates....Ironically, Eminem is worth 80 million and is still speaking for the common man at any cost ,literally, since he is about to drop a new album and will lose millions because of it.

    Excellent summation as always.. As for Eminem, it was inevitable he would speak and the reasons therein may be myriad but the IMPACT of his speech is yet to be totally felt. I believe he knows how important his voice is in the conversation on politics, race and the digital democracy that we call the Internet and how it can get his message to fans in America and around the world ( I'm a fan in Kenya btw). Bottom line, that freestyle was epic because he chose to say what he thought and isn't afraid to make a stand.

    Aye I'm tired of these dudes that be like "It'd be better with a beat" and I'm like fuck no. Most motherfuckers would be like "yeah lyrics were fire but the beat was kinda meh" and definitely sleep on it because of that. Going acapella in hip hop is a tool used by rappers for their lyrics and message to be the only (and therefore main) element on their work. Done intentionally so people put their attention on the message. Plus, these are Shady's origins. He comes from an era where most of the shit they freestyled and battled with was beatless. You gotta give him props for putting out a contemporaneously relevant message, doing it the old way AND still remain the only thing people were talking about from this year's BET. Like, for real, I ain't even watched BET and all I been reading on twitter was Eminem this, Eminem that, Shady this, Shady that... To me this is part of the culture's history.

    The cypher was amazing. That empty asylum line gets me every time. I'm happy he did it to no music and slowed down his flow. That way every single word can be heard and broke down so people know exactly where he stands

    • @jglgg7453
      @jglgg7453 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      LookItsShak Yes. Em did this purposely in a way that his narrative could not be flipped and interpreted in any way other than exactly what he intended it to be. Thats what people don't understand. He made sure this message could be understood outside of hip hop. He could've used a beat and word played it like we all already know he can but he wanted to make sure that what he was saying was gonna connect with anybody that heard it. Non hip hop audiences would have gotten tripped up on the meaning if he had made the schemes and the bars more complex.

    • @bennyblanco9965
      @bennyblanco9965 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Great assessment. I hear comments going "the flow was garbage" and I laugh. Dude, the guy was trying to making an important political statement, not a hip hop classic. If he would have rapped this like RAP GOD then nobody outside of hip hop would give a SHYT.

    • @May9k
      @May9k 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Benny Blanco 1 thank you I try to look at the bigger picture of things. Also I think this was still a classic cypher because of the impact of his message along with STILL having bars in it ( fantastic 4, empty asylum) people that dismiss this confuse me tbh.

    • @bennyblanco9965
      @bennyblanco9965 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      of course I agreee but eminem created a new standard with RAP GOD..... fuck all this, can anything be rapped in the last year match up to that? Of course not.....but we dwell on it because we are constantly comparing the best amongst the best, without any nuance in texture, situation or problem. Bunch of simple MOFOs I'm done defending Em. He is too damn smart for the general public .

    • @May9k
      @May9k 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Benny Blanco ok so I enjoy rap god but to me that is not even close to his best verse. His skill definitely shows and he puts words together better than most. But for me there's not enough substance in the bars. I need a mix of both

      You don't ask your oppressor for freedom, I'm Haitian and Haiti didn't ask France for freedom or a French person to help, we organized and took to arms. This is why blacks in the US like black athletes will never be respected, you receive benefits from the oppressor and the oppressor can take them away.

    • @navoyvincentfitness
      @navoyvincentfitness 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tim Davis Tim Davis that's false information bro. Do you research, Haiti was supposed to receive billions from France after the war and Haitians didn't kill every white person on the island. By your logic, no black nation can prosper without a white power structure. South Africa is majority black, but whites control and dominate the entire country, same with Barbuda, and other Caribbean islands. Look up what happened to every Haitian president that demanded France pay us for repetitions, the western media depicts them as dictators and they get them the hell out the paint. You sound like a suspected white supremacist.

      Bruh I grew up with Haitian Americans and cats from Haiti, these are the FACTS!!! How the hell France going to give Haiti Reparations when it was the enslaved Africans who revolted against the white French elite in POWER. Those light skin Haitians that were in after the revolution back in the day sold Haiti up the river. Louvertoure, (the real leader of the Revolution) was betrayed by his own people and he died in FRANCE!!! Dessalines only put the gens couler (mixed race Haitians) in positions of power and kept the dark skinned ones as laborers (basically slaves of a different name!!) and then had to get killed by his people because of his evil ways SMH!!!

    KRS-One talks in a lecture about how the term "white supremecist" is actually fucking with our heads. Someone who is actually supreme is using their position to lift people up. So the fact that we use that term to talk about people who claim supremacy over others and want to push people down is kind of the problem, because then we never pay attention to the white people who are trying to lift people up and use their voice to make a difference. Why would we call these shitty people supreme? Its semantics but those semantics control how we think.

      Political songs are polarizing, so that makes sense. Especially in the early 2000s. That was a very opulent era and protest music was getting much less burn than it did in the 80s and 90s. The fact that Mosh was even a single is significant given where he was in his career.

    • @skootermcirish
      @skootermcirish 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Not really surprising actually. Part of the problem with race issues is that most white people will either momentarily feel empathy or brush off a POC talking about it as 'oh those angry black men are at it again'.
      The only time those people will give any thought to these issues are when other white people advocate for POC.
      And when we do people usually get either angry or guilty. So it's not surprising that whites would totally ignore the song because they don't want to question their self image or actually think about it.
