I'm a designer. I wanted to learn from the BEST. I told my school advisor that I wanted to intern for Kelly at her studio in West Hollywood in 2009. I learned so much in 6 months. She is beautiful on the outside & inside. She is kind & SUPER talented. I learned so much. Cameron Diaz was her client at the time. I drew the green kitchen at Cameron's Manhattan condo. I also did design work at her beach place in Southern California. I remember the first time I saw her. She was standing in her fabric library wearing GREEN boots & contemplating color. She has her own office but never sat in it. She sat with the staff & was on her feet looking at the design boards. She has a tray with materials on it for each project. Thank you Kelly for creating all this beauty in the world.
I just got my real estate license, but design has always been my passion. After my RE license I went to get certified for Staging and Redesign and it's like once I started that route my whole life just seems like it's finally on track. It's taken me over 10 years to finally get to this point but I'm so happy I'm doing this for myself. Jay has helped me so much in my personal growth this year and I'm so grateful for J and his team!
FYI I only read can changing your environment and instantly clicked on the video. I had no idea it had design talk so seriously the world has been in my favor lately! I love this entire conversation! My heart feels it all
I’m an interior stylist from South Africa and this conversation just came at the right time. I have an interview for my business today and I feel so inspired and confident about the interview. Thank you ❤
One of the person i admire most, thank you jay for bringing her the most intelligent and amazing person. I request you to please do more podcast with designers, architects and artists it'll help us to grow more in creative field. :)
I love Kelly Wearstler! Her designs are so unique. Nothing I have ever seen before. Her designs are not for the faint of heart. I study her home designs for inspiration for my home or space. I’m not an interior designer, I just enjoy decorating my space where it feels cozy. When someone comes over to my house, I get compliments!
Thank you Jay for asking beautifully relevant questions which brought forth the thought process of a designer. She was very generous to share simple yet significant tips while designing one's spaces. Kelly is such a great inspiration and truly a very intelligent woman. Loved this episode. ❤️
What an ICON Kelly is, feeling creatively inspired again after watching this! I was a big fan of Top Design when it aired and to hear her story here was a delight.
Back in 2012 I gave up my house (my son lives there now) moved 12 miles away into the house my husband had built that his mom and brother had lived in. I do not want to leave because the property is very spiritual for me.We had been remodeling it for 15 months prior. It wasn’t finished but i had no doubt that it would be. (We did the work ourselves). Well, it never has been finished. Even though my husband said it was my house, I’ve never felt like it was. Instead, he changed his mind on numerous projects. I decided the other day that I needed to make this more of my house and started rearranging things. I need to bring my books back out as wel as pictures. I can’t change him and his refusal to do things, but i can change my environment to make it more of how I want to live. I’m a comfortable person, I’m usually in jeans or leggings and t shirts. Clutter makes my brain crazy, but I like to keep things tucked away. It isn’t just a coincidence that I found this video today.
To live authentically, we need to embrace all of who we are. We are physical beings, we are spiritual beings, we are creative beings, and part of how we express and discover our individuality is through our environment. Interior design is a beautiful extension of that expression.
You are amazing Kelly, you were so honest and open and never shied away from sharing the tips and even admitted to using the AI which I am sure a lot of creative wont admit to making use of. It was lovely listening you talk. Thank you for your time.
really insightful. I am surprised by the questions you asked, jay. They really answered all my concerns as a young designer and a recent graduate. I'm happy i spent the time listening to this episode and i think many more should do so!
This is refreshing Jay. Our spaces also shape our lives in so many ways. Once you have an organized calm space, then having an organised life becomes easy as well.
Yes however low furniture can be the literal culprit for the spine without knowing changing furniture to standard heights saved and reclaimed my spine. LOVE this interview!
The interview was insightful, thank you. but with all due respect, kelly wearstler glassdoor review is 1.8 and I think when you have a team and they are this unhappy, it says something about you as a leader of that team... I believe it is necessary to ask big faces in architecture and interior design industry about how they address all the pressure on their employees.not everything is about pure client happiness. Thank you
I love flea markets, I love antique stores...I decorate from the place I grew up in...60's and 70's, also the music. I listen to music daily before I go to work in memory care
Honestly didn't think I'd enjoy this episode as much as I did cause I had never heard of her. But I just ran to IG to follw her. I love her design philosophy and style! Thank you Jay for always bringing valuable guest! ❤
I love Kelly! I have always loved interior design & have been following her and you on Instagram for years now. This was the duo I needed to see today 😊
This was such an interesting episode, thank you Jay! I could not stop watching Kelly, everything about her is so attracting and mesmerizing and original. It also made me take a closer look at your studio, which I find stunning. Moreover, this made me make up my mind regarding the art I was considering to spend on for my new living room. It is all about the feeling, thank you!
Omg! I am so pleased to see this interview! This is so inspiring to listen to ! As an architect and interior designer I could only dream to hear everything you talked about! Architecture ans design it’s like an air for me and I have a feeling that I’ve just got a new fresh breath of it ! I love you all. Thank you so much all ❤❤❤
Loved this episode. Kids being a layer in life is such a great expression. And being an artist, the section on pricing and brilliant - honesty and communication are definitely impressive when working with clients. Thank you both.
It’s crazy how you wouldn’t think “interior design” when you mention health but I love her wisdom about CURATING your home design. I just go to Amazon and order everything lol 😅 even my sofa 🤣 now I’m Inspired to curate the rest of my decor. (Side note- I’d love to see Queen Afua on the show) thank you!❤
Kelly looks like a Botticelli painting and would think that her style would belong to that era but she is everything that I would ever want in my designer/ inspiration ❤️❤️❤️
I so love this. I’m an artsy crafty person as well. I tell people about this often as well… how things we buy can have a feel in the home not just for looks. ❤❤❤ another great episode.
Grateful to be choosing to make a difference in my life by the power of intention & ways we can avoid burnout plus to do our absolute best! Keep up the great work in the last 2 month this 2023 Jay ❤🎉😊
Now I see why you have those beautiful water glasses I mentioned on your J Dispenza’s interview. You Thoroughly enjoyed this. How nice to see it. Yes you are definitely an artist at heart. & yes she is massively original. Courageous is the right description.
love these deep, personal questions and what a stunning woman Kelly Wearstler is! I just discovered her and this talk was really inspiring! What I did remember is that she liked Belgium and the Netherlands ... always welcome in Belgium :-)
"A novel worth reading is an education of the heart. It enlarges your sense of human possibility, of what human nature is, of what happens in the world. It’s a creator of inwardness." -Susan SONTAG
You are my idol Jay !! I want to be just like you, of course with my own personality lol. The way you articulate, engage others in conversation, confidence, being mindful & actually listening and being present. Truly amazing
This is so good!!! I connected with Kelly so much!!!! I love her energy and everything she said!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ thank you for sharing I feel strangely validated hehe
I absolutely LOVED this ! Thanks Jay. So, I’ve collected lots of stuff too. Things I love BUT the home can end up looking like a clutter-bug. What can you do if you oscillate between clean, clear and uncluttered and collections and beautiful stuff. 😂
Excellent podcast 🎉❤🙏 Jay I so relate to both of you in this interview!!! I love your energy between you. Iron sharpens iron. Excellent creative ideas for living a focused, intentional happy life!🎉❤🙏 I am so excited to speak for M.A.D.D. and start my own podcast and Tedx talk on Mental Health and an advocate for the Forgotten. 😢❤🙏 I am an Encourager!

Jay, what a nice conversation! Have been a big fan of yours .. out of everyone on social media I prefer having ur and Radhi’s constant company ur books , videos etc …. I myself am a user experience designer .. this conversation has been super engaging and insightful..loved hee take on creativity, her work, her dreams, happiness, style .. just everything …had one question for Kelly .. how do u maintain the balance between style and comfort/usability ? Can u pleaaase pass on and give me the answer ?
I’m surprised she didn’t talk about people orienting furniture around a TV vs orienting it within the space - taking windows, paths of travel, and balance into account
Thank you very much for your insightful gift..I will put some in practical use,I do like decoration..I like to create sacred spaces ( Sanctuaries ) Nature also inspire me,in particular water or the sound of water! As well wind! I also having issues about how much to charge? When you do your art, creativity to share with others! Art is an expression what is inside your SOUL..! Beauty also comes through imperfections..🙏🙏🙏😘🌺💕💚💠🔥🌸
Great interview Jay...and I'm a huge fan of you with so many interesting people interviewed. I've been wanting to ask, and now, particularly since you are interviewing a designer, what is the "meaning or intention" of the framed art behind you where you sit. When the camera is focused on you, all I can see is distracting art behind you that says "Don't shoot"! Please share your intention for this piece of art.

I subscribed because you had Kelly Wearstler on. I love her confidence, eccentricity and restraint- all at the same time.

Thank you!
She said "u know" like a thousand times
and the up-talking, my ears want to stab themselves. the last word of each sentence is not a question!
Loved the answer to question 4 at the end. I never want a piece of art to compete or conflict with the view from a window.
Loved this episode. Kids being a layer in life is such a great expression. And being an artist, the section on pricing and brilliant - honesty and communication are definitely impressive when working with clients. Thank you both.
Thank you for bringing her here ❤
how maney times did she say "you know"
thought of the same thing, to the point that I couldn't listen anymore and all I could hear is "you know"
