I think Who lives, who dies, who tells your story should absolutely be on the list Not only it gives you chills,it leaves you in floods of tears (and thoughts)
The final number in "Do you Hear the People Sing" always makes me feel emotional, as we meet the cast of characters, living and dead, on the barricades again.
Plays phantom in the beginning of the video: doesn’t even get an honorable mention. Phantom literally makes me get the chills before I start bawling my eyes out
I will always find "I'll Cover You (Reprise)" to be the most emotional song in Rent. Today I eyeroll so much at Rent (after being obsessed with it in the late 90s/early 00s) but that one still gets me every time. But yes "Who Lives, Who Dies, Who Tells Your Story" hits hard not only for the musical but also for the historical aspect.
I feel like SIX's Finale, Megasix, is one that fits this. Crowd participation is encouraged in singing, filming and just clapping. It gives me chills because it brings everyone together, the crowd comes alive.
I can think of a few more that should’ve made the list: .Who Lives Who Dies Who Tells Your Story-Hamilton .Part of Your World Finale-The Little Mermaid .Grand Finale-Wicked .This is our story- Shrek the Musical .Beauty and the Beast (Reprise)- Beauty and the Beast .King of Pride Rock/Circle of Life (Reprise)-The Lion King .finale-Seussical the Musical
Who Lives, Who Dies, Who Tells Your Story? from Hamilton, i have seen Hamilton twice live (i saw it in Detroit April 7th 2019 and Toronto May 20th 2023) and Eliza's gasp at the end gives me chills and i was silently mouthing wow after the end
One I haven’t seen mentioned yet: Road to Hell (Reprise) from Hadestown. From the pain/sadness of Orpheus looking back, the slow a cappella of Hermes recapping it, then transitioning into “we sing it anyway” and then an uplifting orchestration and reprising the opening number… just a perfect ending to the show.
Kinda surprised that the finale of Hunchback wasn't on here. After Esmeralda's death, the ensemble joins in a reprise of Someday while Quasi's mom sings in latin. It then culminates in a reprise of Bells of Notre Dame. I've cried to it multiple times
I like how sweeney todd starts with the ballad of sweeney todd as a little “hey this is what the show’s gonna be about” and it ends with the ballad of sweeney todd as a “hey monsters could be anywhere and anyone”
As one who has loved theatrical music my whole life, "Steal Your Rock And Roll" from Memphis has always been the Finale that moved me the most. Never let anyone steal your love for music no matter what else life has dealt you.
Who lives who dies who tells your story from Hamilton and The Adressing of Cats from Cats always give me goosebumps. They are from two of my favorite musicals of all time! Also I appreciate how they used Paul Robeson’s version of Ol Man River from Showboat.
Finale B is a strong moment, for rent and sometimes I almost want to cry listening to it Cecily when Mimi says I saw Angel and she was good and she to that boy song which basically Angell was telling Mimi you’re not coming to heaven you’re going back to live with Roger.
I can't believe "Being Alive" isn't on this list. I'd also put "Come to my Garden" from A Secret Garden, when I saw that on Broadway, it almost broke me, same with "Bring me to the Light "from Violet
Definitely agree on the finale to Les Mis for number one. One not on your list that always gives me chills is Make Our Garden Grow from Candide. But (sorry, switching genres) for a sublime emotional experience, for me, nothing compares to the choral movement of Beethoven’s 9th.
Ooh, I haven't heard of most of those musicals, so that's more to add to a "to watch or listen" pile. However, I got so many tingles that I was shivering, so there's that, at least!
I can't believe you showed Hamilton at the end, but didn't include it on your list. It's incredibly haunting and beautiful. It should have been at least in the top 3.
Here's some you missed: The Adressing of Cats- Cats (I love this, gives me goosies every time) Oklahoma- Oklahoma! (How many songs from a musical become the state song?) Six- Six (An alternate, happier ending for the 6 wives of Henry, make you wanna cry) We Go Together- Grease (It's so happy I get happy goosies, lol)
Make Our Garden Grow from Candide - absolutely the most powerful, chill-inducing finale. So much that Bradley Cooper found a way to work it into his Bernstein biopic Maestro.
How could Hamilton's "Who Lives, Who Dies, Who Tells Your Story" make the closing montage but not the list? Two words - "The orphanage" - and I'm bawling every time.
The ending of Les Mis gets me every time. But the whole musical makes me cry everytime i see it😭. And i agree with most of you here: the ending of Hamilton should be on this list!!!
The courage of Rogers and Hammerstein to keep Ole Man River and You’ve got to be taught in their musicals in spite of the controversy has never failed to impress me.
Carousel and Show Boat, those will make you cry. I'm in love with the classics, none of the other ones even come close. Except for Rent. Rent is perfect.
My personal favorite musical theater finale and one that always makes me squirt big baby tears is answer me from the band's visit. For anyone who hasn't heard of this wonderful musical, do yourself a favor and check it out.
Maybe because it’s not a song it doesn’t count…but John Nineteen Forty-One from Jesus Christ Superstar is very moving. Also Who Lives, Who Dies, Who Tells Your Story from Hamilton and Lament from Evita. Can’t argue with your number one though!
Pretty much every finale song should be applauded! They all cement a shows lasting impact on the viewer & I totally agree on what was #1 here! I always get so emotional hearing this finale, as much as Hamiltons for sure!
@manuelorozco7760 Was it good? I can't imagine anyone but Barbra doing that role. Maybe Amanda Seifried. She can act and she has a respectable singing voice.
Who Lives, Who Dies, Who Tells Your Story {Hamilton} & Epilogue: Ragtime / Wheels of a Dream (Reprise) {Ragtime} both belong on this list….. but don’t fit at the same time. They both reflect on the future of the characters, giving them each a solo moment to shine, which is great. However. There isn’t enough time given to the stirring melodies that they use to give the full impact of them to the audience. Fabulous story pay off - not enough melodic pay off to hit all the feels.
IMO, ALL of the "Honorable Mentions" are better than some of those actually ranked, many of which I never heard of before. But, you nailed #1 - ALWAYS!
A huge oversight is in this list because you forgot Finale Ultimo ( Don’t Feed The Plants) Little Shop Of Horrors, Finale Seussical, Who Lives Who Dies Who Tells Your Story Hamilton
My favorite finales in a musical are You Can’t Stop The Beat, Light, We Go Together, Steal Your Rock N Roll, In The Heights Finale, Newsies Finale, the title song from Xanadu, One reprise from A Chorus Line, Who Loves You from Jersey Boys, Coming Out Of The Dark from On Your Feet, Lucky Star from Singin’ In The Rain and the title song from White Christmas
For me it’s definitely the Finale of Dance of the vampires (the original European version, not the Broadway chaos 😂🙈), when the professor thinks the humans won, but the Vampires are already taking over 🤭 And a special honorable mention for „Mein Ding“ from „Hinterm Horizont“, a song that teaches us to go our own way, despite what others may say🤩
My personal #1: "We Tell the Story" from Once on this Island-- it always makes me cry when Ti Moune returns just to sing "...and forgive". #2: "Epilogue" from Caroline, or Change-- when Anika Noni Rose performs an exorcism of a confederate statue-- is spine-chilling. #3. "The Color Purple (Reprise)" because, just... Wow... especially done by Cynthia Erivo #4. "Let the Sunshine In" from Hair
The Addressing of Cats from Cats, Hello Dolly finale, Les Miserables, The Phantom Of The Opera finale, Don't Feed The Plants(Little Shop Of Horrors), Circle Of Life(reprise)(The Lion King musical) the Beauty and The Beast reprise, You Can't Stop The Beat(Hairspray), Oklahoma, Join The Circus from Barnum, and other songs should've been on the list. 🎵🎵🎵🎵🎵🎵🎵🎵🎵🎵🗽🎭🎭🎭🎭
Who Lives, Who Dies, Who Tells Yout Story being left out is unbelievable to me! Not even an honorable mention! I BAWL at that finaly every single time.
It's not like you forgot about "Who Lives, Who Dies, Who Tells Your Story", as you included a clip of it at the very end of the video, but it couldn't even get an Honorable Mention?
I forgot that old black and white pictures have so much talent. They had more against them than now. They have more talent then in some of today’s modern movies
finale: roaring on from the great gatsby really gets me, just seeing nick stand there devastated at the loss of all the people he’d grown close to that summer. he’s there mourning gatsby while the ensemble, who attended all of gatsby’s parties come onstage in a quieter version of the opening number, only caring about the parties the city has to offer, not that gatsby, whose parties defined the summer had been murdered.
this odd list leaves out one of the greats. in fact just saw it again last weekend in NY. "See Me, Feel Me/Listening to You" from THE WHO'S TOMMY. simply electrifying.
I know it's an obscure foreign language thing, but Lord of Nothing from the Last Trial will never fail to hit me in the feels. It's one of the reasons I don't mind that the musical changes the ending entirely compared to the source material (from a bittersweet victory with a promise of better to come for the survivors, into an utter irreparable tragedy) because as much as I like some of them, none of the songs from the alternate more book-accurate ending hit as hard as Lord of Nothing. Just, the villain-protagonist _finally_ realizing how empty his victory is, when it's too late to change anything. The goddess of evil he killed and whose place he took mocking him for his failure. The pleading, screaming against the fate he has brought upon himself, arguing that no it's not too late, he can still change things, he can still make it right- but he can't. he can't. Whether Raistlin's actor delivers the song with fury, fighting to the last, or remorseful, desperate pleading for the ability to change the ending, or with weary resignation to his place, it's just always so good
Honestly my favorite finale songs are "I see stars" From Mean girls the musical and "It's not a game/It's just a ride" From Ride the cyclone. Those give me chills and its not a game/It's just a ride makes me cry and it also make me happy loll so I think those two are very underrated.
Finale from Come From Away as everyone comes back after 10 years. The fact that it's a one act play got me wondering... Is there a Mojo list of the top opening Act Closers like Defying Gravity or 2nd act Openers like Seasons of Love
Children will listen is beautiful Finale song from Into The Woods 1991 and Bernadette Peters had a beautiful voice and i can hear Chuck Wagner and I'm big of him and him and i are friends on Facebook and that song got chills just now

I think Who lives, who dies, who tells your story should absolutely be on the list
Not only it gives you chills,it leaves you in floods of tears (and thoughts)
The final number in "Do you Hear the People Sing" always makes me feel emotional, as we meet the cast of characters, living and dead, on the barricades again.
“Do you Hear the People Sing(Reprise)” is the last part of the Finale of “LES MISERABLES”.
The entire musical makes me feel emotional!
It doesn't matter how many times I've listened to this - I cry every time.
yes im doing les mis right now and i have to stop myself from sobbing at the last song cuz it always gets me
The first time I saw it on Broadway, I sobbed in my seat and couldn't get up from my seat for a while.
Who Live, Who Dies, Who Tells Your Story and Eva's Final Broadcast make me ugly cry every time I hear them
Eliza's lines in Who Lives, Who Dies, Who Tells Your Story never fail to make me cry
Same
@@mariskelley8831 Two words: "The orphanage"
Plays phantom in the beginning of the video: doesn’t even get an honorable mention.
Phantom literally makes me get the chills before I start bawling my eyes out
Same! While I agree with that Les Mis definitely deserves to be there, Phantom's should be too. I'm always a sobbing mess at the end.
Ok, as much as I LOVE Finale B...Who Lives, Who Dies, Who Tells Your Story is SO much more emotional imo
I came here to say just this. That song is one of the most emotional Broadway ending songs of all time
IDK...... Come To My Garden (reprise) from Secret Garden is pretty damn emotional
Finale B always strikes me in the heart. Still one of my all-time favorite musicals.
I came here to say the same thing. I ugly cry every time I watch it.
I feel like SIX's Finale, Megasix, is one that fits this. Crowd participation is encouraged in singing, filming and just clapping. It gives me chills because it brings everyone together, the crowd comes alive.
I love how they do that in SIX - Edinburgh was alive last month with the Queendom!
Nothing has, nor will ever, top “One” from A Chorus Line.
Very mysterious *another* top item missing from a Ms. Mojo best list. She's lost it…
I can think of a few more that should’ve made the list:
.Who Lives Who Dies Who Tells Your Story-Hamilton
.Part of Your World Finale-The Little Mermaid
.Grand Finale-Wicked
.This is our story- Shrek the Musical
.Beauty and the Beast (Reprise)- Beauty and the Beast
.King of Pride Rock/Circle of Life (Reprise)-The Lion King
.finale-Seussical the Musical
Who Lives, Who Dies, Who Tells Your Story? from Hamilton, i have seen Hamilton twice live (i saw it in Detroit April 7th 2019 and Toronto May 20th 2023) and Eliza's gasp at the end gives me chills and i was silently mouthing wow after the end
Saw La miserable in Chicago with my late dad at the opera house back in 2000. What a powerful show.

The finale of Cabaret...chills....just chills
The finale of les miserables makes me cry every time i hear it. 😢😭
I agree with this list. Love "Children Will Listen." Rent, Hamilton, and "Do You Hear the People Sing", are also excellent.
My favorite is Road to Hell (Reprise) from Hadestown. It breaks your heart and then puts it back together again
I was surprised this wasn’t on here
Wouldn't "We Raise Our Cups" be the finale? And why isn't that one here?
Climb every mountain reprise will never get old
Thank you for #1. My favorite 😁 "Come From Away" is also incredible.
Come from away should have been a top 10
“Tell Me It’s Not True” from Blood Brothers! A mother mourning over her twin son’s deaths…. all the feels!
Absolutely the best, even get teary eyed just singing it in my own mind 😢
Blood brothers never make any of these lists, i feel that it is a very under appreciated musical. It shocks me everytime when it isn't represented.
@@vickihadley5012 … So true! I saw it in London in 1993 and I absolutely loved it!! It’s definitely underrated!
Uh, Blood Brothers not being number 1, let alone not even being on this list, is a ridiculous joke.
@@bookemdano7567 I saw it in London in 93 too! So great
The Sweeney Todd finale is defo a finale song that I love! It is just so strange in a way that gives me the chills.
Memphis is one of the most underrated musicals so far this century!
@manuelorozco7760 Underrated? You do know it won the Tony for Best Mucisal in 2010, right?
@@paul16451 I know that. But i feel like the show needs a bit more love.
Finale of Man of La Mancha ... The Impossible Dream. By the end I'm so invested in the story, I'm in tears
Who lives who dies who tells your story from Hamilton and The Adressing of Cats from Cats always give me goosebumps. They are from two of my favorite musicals of all time! Also I appreciate how they used Paul Robeson’s version of Ol Man River from Showboat.
The Pippin finale sends shivers up my spine every single time.
I love "The Song of Purple Summer" from Spring Awakening! My favorite forever! 💜
All good choice, but you really should have included Being Alive, from Company. I have never been more moved by a Broadway song.
I agree! This one hits me so hard.
Candide. “We’ll Make Our Garden Grow” builds and builds through glorious harmonies.
surprised that Hamilton didn't make this list
Not even honourable mentions for Louder Than Words (Tick Tick Boom) or Sunday Finale (Sunday in the Park with George)??? Outrgaeous!
Sunday! (Sunday in the Park with George) Moving. Flawless.
Finale B is a strong moment, for rent and sometimes I almost want to cry listening to it Cecily when Mimi says I saw Angel and she was good and she to that boy song which basically Angell was telling Mimi you’re not coming to heaven you’re going back to live with Roger.

I need an entire box of Kleenex for that show ❤
100% agree

Elton John’s Aida. Written in the stars as the two stars die. I cried every of the 7 times I’ve seen it
Make Our Garden Grow from Candide - absolutely the most powerful, chill-inducing finale. So much that Bradley Cooper found a way to work it into his Bernstein biopic Maestro.

The finale from Wicked. Happy saturday afternoon, Emily, take care and God bless you. Greetings from Colombia to you as well
I would add Titanic, Ragtime, Wicked, and The Hunchback of Notre Dame.
The Hamilton finale gets me in the tear ducts every single time. ❤
"Light" from Next To Normal never fails to hit me right in the feels. It's such a powerful show and that song is the topper
Finally some appreciation for Light
I would often come back to it wren we were on lockdown a few years back!
Children Will Listen always gives me all the feels. Old Man River makes me ugly cry😭! The finale in RENT leaves me in an emotional mess.
I forgot the reprise of The Impossible Dream in Man of la Mancha. When I was in in the show, there wasn't a dry eye in the house.
