    I like the hazard alerts as they are very helpful. But there seems to be some inconsistency when it comes the other alerts like sharp bends. Sometime I get a wanting well in advance which is great but sometimes the warning comes up right on the bend and sometimes the warning doesn’t happen. From my limited time with the 1050 is seems to be speed related when and if a warning happens.

    I like the hazards alert especially in free ride mode where you can report hazards such as potholes and even roadworks can be seen as hazards even if you can’t actually list them specifically. Garmin still classes them as hazards.

    Awesome series of videos Lama! I brought a 1050 after watching last week.
    Has anyone noticed calories are reported low compared to say an old 530 or compared to what training peaks reports based off power? Surely these things also use power to guesstimate calories burnt.

      I agree, and this should be a field that can be added to any data screen.

  • @pi31416ish
    @pi31416ish 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Was briefly excited about having multiple map screens, as I've often wanted to be able to switch quickly between "next turn" and "next ten minutes" views. But map data fields showing the same zoom as the map screen wouldn't allow that 😕

    I am sure, you covered this in another video, but what is the datafield at the bottom with power, HR, speed, etc and the visual power distribution? Thanks!

    Anyone know an IQ or how to get bigger arrow navigation or change the colour? Its awsome Garmin didnt work on that!

    Nothing much there to trade out of 1040 for the 1050. For the price of the 1050 I want cellular functionality, but appreciate that’s a complex issue to work through with the telcos and their vested interests in their own health & fitness apps. That said it still needs to happen.
    In respect to the Hazard reporting, I thought its introduction was an excellent idea. However, in reality riding around Melbourne , my experience is there has been a “zealous” over-reporting of hazards, which are very questionable and in many instances are just not there. I still think it’s a great thing to have and I’m guessing being a new feature it’s being “tested out”. Ultimately, hazards need to be reported to Council etc to be actioned, otherwise they worsen. Maybe Garmin could change the “Thank you” to instead a prompt encouraging it be reported.

    I wish Garmin offered a 3-second VAM field.
    Is there a way to "lock" data fields so that they can't be accidentally changed. Maybe I'm the only person who's ever unintentionally changed a data field. I know the whole device can be locked but not quite what I'm looking for

    03:30 how on earth you can get that flat power profile? Mine is aways a sawtooth hilly rollercoaster, even in ERG mode. I gess I'm not able to develop steady efforts despite the power output.

    • @gplama
      @gplama  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That trainer is doing ERG mode power smoothing. It’s reporting the set-point, not the real power. (Which is interesting as I’d switched that mode off. It was off for 15 seconds and switched back on. Trainer issue, not Zwift)

    • @drigobarreto
      @drigobarreto 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@gplama oww.. Ok. I own a Neo 3M and Assioma Duo. Using one or other always lead to same power profile. Sawtooth senoidal with about 15s periods at FTP on +- 5% peaks and shallows. I thought it was a manufacture issue (mine, not the trainer). As warranty has long expired (over 40yo), that's what I've got. LOL

    Re. 30s average, you answered your own question when you said “maybe it would be more helpful during a longer effort” 😊 It’s helpful during a TT or a mountain climb (for example) where you want to see at a glance whether you’re pacing consistently.
    Personally I rarely use it; 10s average is more than long enough / smooth enough to see how you’re trending during an effort, especially when combined with overall average power for the lap / effort.
    These moving graphs are cool, but in reality way overkill - never really understood why you need visual representation of your numbers…

    • @aje83774
      @aje83774 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Exactly. Why would you examine the usefulness of a 30s average on a 20s effort? For a longer sweetspot or threshold effort, or a climb? Maybe. But holding 10s pwr for those efforts hasn't steered me wrong yet.

    • @kiverrussell8369
      @kiverrussell8369 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I actually like using 30s power for a longer effort but can't see any advantage to a graph for it. Each to their own I guess 🤷‍♂️

    On the topic of hazard alerts, I've run into issues with incorrect alerts.
    There's a pothole alert that I've attempted to clear up to 3-4 times a week, and it just won't go away. My favorite sport loop has 2-3 of these incorrect alerts that just won't go away
    Have you heard of others reporting problems with hazard alerts not going away?

    Those warnings on the Garmin are area warnings. Probably workable in empty areas, but completely worthless in dense areas as here in the Netherlands. I continuously got alarms for items on other roads. Also people are adding alarms for items the government add to the road to slow down traffic. I don't need an alarm for that. Alarms and warnings are always problematic: it is easy to generate a lot of them, it is difficult to get only valid ones.

      Per DC RAINMAKER.
      „Thus, Garmin made sure to reiterate multiple times that the Edge 1040/1040 Solar are seen as viable alternatives, with Andrew Silver, Garmin’s Cycling Product Division Manager, saying:
      “Both Edge 1050 and Edge 1040 / Solar will remain core parts of our range, with Edge 1040 / Solar continuing to receive feature and software updates where screen technology and underlying hardware allows. This essentially gives users the choice between super bright screen and resolution and the long battery life that is core to the x40 series.””

    All new tech is just getting to be an annoyance. Press, Press & Hold, Press again 🙄 Charging this, charging that 🙄 Truthfully, it's a distraction whether you agree with that or not. While you're screwing around with your gadgets your eyes and mind are not focused where they should be. The bike computer is becoming the same distraction as the smartphone is with notifications popping up at the most inconvenient times. I wish Garmin would just update the 130 with a better screen and the ability to use the Varia Radar.
