If it’s the Apple TV HD then it should work. Do you know if you’re Apple TV is running the latest version of the OS? Might be the TV doesn’t have the software to recognize it
Hey Valerie. Yeah this video wasn't made with that quite in mind, haha. However, if you use the Apple remote function on your iPhone or iPad you might be able to connect it that way. That's also assuming the tap to pair method doesn't work.
Thank you very much for your advice! I have connected my new remote (this new model like in your video) very easily. But now I want to switch back to my old remote (the smaller black one, all “touch”, like the one you are showing next) and do not know how to. If I (this being said my new remote is already connected and working) bring my old remote close to apple tv and press any button or press the touch space nothing happens and no prompt appears on the screen suggesting that the remote now is being connected. Could you please advise on how to connect the old remote back and/or how to switch between the two (i.e. to connect and use old or new one when I want from time to time). Thank you very much in advance!
Hi Olga. This isn't something I mentioned in the video, but you can't have more than 1 physical remote paired to the Apple TV at a time (the Remote app for iPhone and iPad doesn't count, you can have many of those paired to the ATV). So if you want to keep using the new remote, then you won't be able to use the old one with it. If you're fine with only using the old one, you'll have to disconnect the new remote and then can go through the pairing process (but as a precaution make sure your iPhone or iPad Remote app works before doing this in case you run into an issue when neither physical remote is paired to the ATV and you need to do something). Hope this helps!
@@EasyOSX thank you very much for your answer. Could you please explain or advise me on how to disconnect a remote or where I can find out how to disconnect the remote in order to connect another one? Thank you so much!
First thing is to connect your iPhone or iPad’s Remote app to your Apple TV and make sure works in case something happens you can still control the TV. It should be in Control Center on your iDevice. Then, to disassociate a remote from your Apple TV., go to the “Settings” app, then “General” > “Remotes and Devices” > Unpair Apple Remote. After you’ve done that, try connecting the remote you want to use again.
Thank you bro you’re a lifesaver I let my remote die for some reason and it wasn’t sink into my Apple TV and I got the new one so thank you so much I just like the video and subscribe to your channel awesome video even if it’s a year old
Great video! For some reason my Apple TV for some reason got disconnected and did not bring the menu on the tv so far it’s working. Thanks to your video.
On step 3 when I bring the remote to the box it won’t park the remote. I can move through menus with the remote but I cannot control volume. I have looked everywhere and nothing I do helps. I’ve checked hdmi cec, but when I try the “learn new remote” it does not pick up the siri remote
I bought a brand new apple tv 4k 2021 version and everything was perfect, until my two year old put my remote in the toilet , it no longer works so I ordered and received a brand new remote and I followed the steps after charging for two hours and nothing is happening..... can you please let me know what to do ? Thanks, you always have great videos....
Hey John, sorry to hear about your issue. That’s a rough way to lose your remote. Here’s 2 things to try. First, unplug your Apple TV from power for 30 seconds, then plug it back into power and let it come back up to the home screen. Then try connecting the remote again as described in the video. If this doesn’t work, then bring your remote close to the Apple TV. Point it at the Apple TV. Then press and hold the TV button and the Volume Down button on the remote for 10 seconds. During this process you should see the white light on the front of the Apple TV turn off and then turn back on a few seconds later. When you see the status light come back on, then you can let go of the buttons. This will cause the remote itself to reboot. Count for 30 seconds, and at the end of the 30 seconds, hit either the TV or Back buttons on the remote and see if it will connect again.
Mine worked for 4 hours then stopped completely. No matter how long I’ve left it on the charger, it just won’t work. I’ve tried 3 different charger cords (including the one in the box) and 2 different wall plugs. Nothing seems to work. I guess I’ll have to take it back.
Hey Adrian, sorry to hear you're still having problems. Here’s 2 things to try first.
If I ever think about buying the 2022 Apple TV 4K 128GB model or later in the future, I’ll do that to use the Siri Remote with the Lightning port instead of the one it came with!
Great video, but my issue is that the remote has stopped working with my television. Can’t turn it on or manage the volume. There are zero instructions on how to reset the Apple remote to understand my tv 😢 if anyone has any tips, please let me know.
So you mean like your actually screen and not the box right? I believe there is a setting to have it use the right frequencies if you’re talking about the volume and powering it on and off
@@EasyOSX thanks so much for your reply. Yes. It was working ok for the volume two days ago, but not turning on the TV. I found that if you hold down the - button and press the menu button above the + (don't know the name of it) together for about 6 seconds, it reconnected with the TV. yay!
I plug my charger into the wall to charge my remote it’s been more than a few minutes I’m still having a hard time connecting my remote to my Apple TV I have the brand new model
Hey Hardheimer. Fair question, which I wasn’t clear about in the video. If you have an iOS or iPad device, it should have the remote function built in so you can use that to move around the screen and update the Apple TV.
@@EasyOSX you are the closest Ive come to resolving this problem for me and I appreciate it, but I’m trying to connect my phone as a remote and it requires me to enter a code onto the tv that’s showing up on my phone, and the only way to do so is with an already connected remote which I lost and don’t feel like spending 60$ for a remote, I think that’s ridiculous! Wtf? This makes no sense. I have a 2017 Apple TV 4K that hasn’t been updated since it was purchased and the remote has been lost. I have the new 2021 remote from other Apple TVs that I want to pair to the 2017 model. But you’re saying without being updated, the remote won’t pair???
Hey Ron, sorry to hear you're having problems. It might pair but might not completely work depending on the version you're using. As a workaround, you might see if you can use the built-in remote function on an iPhone or iPad and see if you're able to get the TV updated that way.
If I press and do all the holding of buttons and no prompt what should I do ?
Have you checked the charge or tried to leave it on the charger for a bit
@@EasyOSX yes I have it’s been for 24hrs but does it only work with the new models cause I have this Apple TV for 7-8 years now , does that matter ?
