Thank you Ruri for this amazing video. Please do more about niche and figuring out the type of videos to watch for small channels. I am learning much from you and can't wait to apply what you talked about. Has someone noticed at 6th minutes when Ruri talked about the audio she was hilarious about the other faulty microphone🤣
It's sometimes a bit harder than just watching. In my experience I try putting on on "producer mode" when watching YT videos. That means analysing what works well in existing videos, and asking yourself which ideas to reproduce and what you could do differently to make it even better
I do this with a lot of channels I watch. I look at where they cut the video, how they add impact to their words with editing, and storytelling and structure of the video. I then try and replicate the techniques and add my own unique spin. Your videos will definitely improve when you watch channels analytically
Let's go start I did it 2 days ago and don't have many viewers nor followers but ik I'm meant for more and this is just the beginning of a legendary Chanel:)
Do not make videos to please the algorithm. You’ll drive yourself crazy and white up not posting videos and quit TH-cam. Have fun And don’t do it for the money and the fame. Also don’t do it for the views do it because you engage at least one person or more. Don’t forget take breaks when you need to. The real people that like your videos will understand that you need a break.
Good content and great strategy. As a small content creator on TH-cam, I know how hard it is to gain traction and attention from the beginning. Like many of you guys, I was tired of creating quality content almost every day and getting only a few hundred views on my best days. After that, I tried using some tools to ramp up my social presence, and honestly I don't regret it. Consistency, hard work (and a little bit of Famester) is key to success.
After being inspired by You Tube flower farmers, I tried to make a living for 2 years by flower farming on half an acre and using my floristry skills. I realised the best way to make money from it was to make videos on how to do it. *So, I really appreciate that you showed you were successful before making how-to do TH-cam videos!* It seems it's easiest to be successful in a field with "how to be successful in this field" videos.
To any small youtuber that reads this, Dont give up! You can do this, i started youtube back in 2020 and I didnt post in a while till i found what i wanted to do on this channel and it was to do gaming, before i was at 42 subs now im at 105 subs if i can do it then you can do it, NO EXCUSES! ✊️
The best and most unique idea I haven’t heard anywhere else: creating a separate TH-cam account where you watch only videos your ideal audience would watch is genius. I’ve done this unintentionally with my travel agency account and it’s helped alot (in regards to idea generation) ❤ thank you!
Thank you for the valuable tips! I started my channel a few months ago and I’m trying to implement things I’ve learned from awesome channels like yours. Best of luck to all the creators reading this!
Yo, the algorithm served me your video today. I have no intention of starting a youtube channel but I really like the message you are spreading. Respect from Sweden, keep slaying!
I like the idea that you suggested about personal branding being a way to help your channel stand out from the competition. Giving people a reason to watch my channel and have them remember it will be my focus. I am going to create more videos that show my face, and have me engaging more with my audience. Thanks Ruri!
She is very good at whatever she does on TH-cam! Because such a great work’s done by her. And a generous willing to share with followers…That’s why Ruri has got nearly 1,5M subscribers!
To all the small TH-camrs starting off, you got this, I hit my 1000 subs and i really never thought i would, keep grinding, make quality content, cut out pauses and give value.
I started my channel 1 year ago and I really enjoy making videos! It's tough to get views and subs because of my niche and the videos are animated instead of a real person talking, but I think there are people who would love it and find value in what I do!
Just stumbled upon your video and what filled me with the most enthusiasm and hope for the future blossoming TH-camrs was your emphasis of three things - 1) Produce the content you want to make, i.e. don't chase the trends, algorithm, or copy someone big 2) Be creative in the truest since, i.e. don't just repeat what is out there, but provide your unique take 3) Remove anything that would provide an excuse to share, i.e. be your own advocate to produce The only statement you made that raised an eyebrow was regarding EDITING. Editing is not just the video, transitions, and filters, like you say. But it also is not something that should be just handed off to someone else. The editor is the one who refines and focuses the viewer on the raw content of the video via the artistic and directional influence over that raw content. I saw a great example of a couple simply talking to each other with just generic neutral script, with all the footage just shot raw and unadulterated. Then they had two versions of that same conversation, one was edited to make it feel like the couple were breaking up, the second made it feel like they were getting together... all from the same content. You can probably think of comedic versions of this where a celebrity has a normal interview with normal answers, but then a new funny interview is created by simply changing the questions asked. The point is, as soon as you give editing over to someone else it will always be a bit of their version of your take. Try to learn basic editing and work from there, as it will train you to create raw content that takes less editing at the end. I am sure you can think of some TH-camrs who simply talk to the camera, do their thing, and come away with nearly no editing needed because they edit on the fly. Granted, there are also those that can't go more than a few seconds with out having to cut our their "umms" and "ahhs" ending up with something looking more like stop motion. So, just like the video says. Just get better and forge ahead.
lots of good points and also to add that your editing style will also change who tunes in to watch. too fast paced and you lose those how aren't into tiktok. too much dead space and your retention drops because you took too long to get to the point. Some channels can swear all day with no issue and others will get less push speaking the same way. what you missed is you need to make them feel something. If they aren't moved to let you know you got something wrong or you were spot on and they agree then you may as well be reading the dictionary. This is the reason many will leave in errors for the engagement of 100's of people telling you your mistake. Even the length of your comment signals that this video is engaging so others should check it out. (I know because my videos with the longer comments get more views vs the ones with more short comments and likes...its all about retention)
I’m not a young person, and I’ve been in conceptual advertising and branding through illustration/ visual art, and you are extremely inspiring and comforting. You’re absolutely correct…. All success comes from resilience… never giving up. I’m a huge fan Ruri!

I was waiting for you to say "outsourcing because time is the most important asset". You give straight words without making them sweet which makes you REALLY reliable and authentic. Well done
Just uploaded my 1st video a week ago, but sat on it for soo long before making it public due to fear of judgement - but 26 views in (most of which was probably me taking notes to improve 😂) it is kind of comforting to know that no one cares about/will even see the first few videos. Hope everyone here who's worried about getting started is motivated by this video and just pulls the trigger - because why not?
As always, Ruri shared useful information. You are someone I enjoy watching and never get bored of. I wish you continued success. I hope your number of followers reaches 2 million as soon as possible.

You are such a gem, strategic, intelligent, love your accent.. I wouldn’t mind meeting you in person, your giggles are adorable. Thanks for your hard work and your message aligns with my core values..❤
Consistency is very important. If for instance you do a new video every day and you take a week off, you won’t get the same recommendations to viewers when you come back after taking a week off. You better stay regular whatever your regular video release might be.
Ruri, you are amazing in this video as always. I am happy that there is a youtuber like you who is sweet, knowledgeable and contributes to us. I love you so much, keep making videos like this! 💖😎
Recently I have also started about a week ago my YT shorts about Editing tips and tricks by thinking the same that nobody will watch my first video and learned that we just need to take the first step.
I respectfully disagree. If you learn every aspect of what a successful TH-camr does (Retention, video shots, ideas, editing, selecting the right music, etc), I believe everyone can be successful. The only people who aren't successful is not evolving in these skills, hitting a wall, and giving up. I barely got to 100 subscribers and I know my videos are HORRIBLE. But with that said, there's A LOT of room to improve. Don't give up guys! Learn process. Evolve in each video. Write down notes and incorporate to next videos. I know that's what I NEED to be doing! We will grow! And that's a FACT
Great video thanks! Just one tip though, some of the recommended tech is definitely unaffordable for many small TH-camrs. Rode and Sony have entry level products BUT there are many cheaper alternatives that you can start with and upgrade if your channel takes off.
I created my youtube account, back in 2008, mostly to watch videos, not to build a channel. After watching this video, I am encouraged to start a YT channel. Thanks for this Ruri, you are inspiring.
This is great timing for this video to come up! I was feeling a little discouraged for a few days but not going to let it affected my progress. You are doing awesome girl thank you for your efforts 🥰
Doing exactly this! Putting up videos and trying not to get discouraged with the lack of engagement. The experience in itself is worth it, it's a sort of hobby as well.
Been a while since I had time to watch your videos. The fact that I actually got at least 200 subs within some months, that's actually cool. I'm sure these advices are gonna work
ThankYou, I am trying to get my channel going, I'm watching Your video, at 5:34 I have realised what I can offer viewers and what They may need help with, for example motivation to go Outside and enjoy nature despite pain, depression, bad weather and so on , organising kit to keep weight down. I am subscribing to you
As a new youtuber myself, this was a really helpful video! it was great hearing your story during your beginning of the channel; really inspires me to keep going with my journey and not giving up. thanks for the tips!
got recommended your video, you got the sennhesier e935? or 945? can't tell which, great mic. For cameras though should definitely check out the Sony ZV-E1, its basically the S3 at nearly half the cost and hot zoom and better framing, menu and AF.

0:02 - Hey, I've watched that one Video there before I ended up here! That One from "NeatontheRocks", titled "You should be a TH-camr (or Artist/Creator)"! Highly recommend watching this Video too. His Perspective on the Topic is very insightful.
Oh yeah, that's how i started out when i started my TH-cam channel back in 2020. And four years later, i have over 469 subscribers. It's all about what videos spark up the most views, and that's the key right there. That's what i've been doing for the past four years when making videos.
Thank you so much for posting this! I am about to start a TH-cam channel but I've been struggling on what kind of content I want to put out but I think I'm going to make my new page about my life, the progress I make and the struggles I face as a make in his early 30s.i feel like i can relate to and lot of people out there. But yeah thank you for your motivation, I feel like it was a sign for me to get started and stop procrastinating! Much love to you! ❤🙏🏻
Really helpful video for someone hesitant to start their YT journey. Thank you for the encouragement and your English is perfectly fine and not overly complicated by Ai, it's natural easily understood by someone like myself
I really enjoy your presentations. I listened a few months ago, but lost your vids somehow or forgot to stay with it. Thank you for pointing out that AI really hasn't yet replaced authentic human writing content; hasn't replaced us writers. I am an author (a struggling one) and I know that AI can't produce the genuine thoughtful content which I can produce. It only duplicates or draws off of already made content and is often wrong or off-course. Noel LaChance
I started by randomly capture and edit then mixed things together, everything you just pointed out was right, I just need to start making smth, it was a flow state and I feel like I'm unstoppable
I have been an avid TH-cam consumer since TH-cam was created. I've wanted to become a "TH-camr" for years, but with work and family obligations I haven't had time to do it. Things have changed, I have the time. I've been trying to get content uploaded and I have finally started getting stuff on my channel. I have realized how little I know about creating videos, so I have been watching a lot of instructional videos. You are excellent. This video is the only one I have watched from you, but it was very informative. Thanks for what you do.
Let go!!! Ruri your channel is a gem 💎 good info i definitely took notes 📝 i appreciate it very much keep up the great work i pray that you are having a great week 💪🏾😎
I like the way you said that no one will watch the first perhaps 100 videos but you made it a positive thing. I'm tired of hearing coaches who make it sound like you're wasting your time in the beginning and will look foolish and laughable.
Additional camera recommendation, Canon T7i or T8i. These models have fantastic focus tracking, better than any other DSLR that I've ever used which was my initial selling point when buying my T7i. Canon's webcam drivers and utilities are incredibly simple and plug-and-play with all applications. You'll need to get an AC power pack that slots into where the battery goes but they are not expensive on Amazon. The T7i and T8i (T7i is older so less expensive) are great options because of the sheer volume of lenses out there that are compatible with them. I haven't used any mirrorless cameras so I can't speak to the value of those, but at the very least, now you know that the T7i or T8i are great as streaming/web cams too. Plus, you can explore traditional photography with them which is a lot of fun.
For me finding a niche is being definitely the most challenging thing to do, just like you I'm on my 5th attempt 😅I wanted to do ALL my research first, truly understanding youtube and how it works. After many videos and lots of notes I decided to start over again by rethinking who I'm talking to? And why? I know what I'm good at, but still don't know how to apply that in content creation, I want to create content in the gaming genre because gaming is my hobby, and finding a niche that I really like and actually works mixed with what I'm good at is confusing. Maybe I have to ask myself those questions again, and with the answers, consider if that genre is the correct choice for my content to begin with. What a challenge, but without your videos and your suggestions I wouldn't have any idea of what to do, thank you so much Ruri
With regards to finding music, I'd also recommend seeing if anyone has done a nice cover or remix of the song you're looking for. A lot of these creators grant permission to use their renditions as long as you credit them. As someone who makes videos on pop culture media, having a song that is recognizable as a piece of the media I'm focusing on helps to keep the experience with the video consistent.
I feel your pain, only just got a little traction 2 years ago after 10 years of basically nothing for my efforts. It sucks but im slowly growing now, just gotta stick with it and keep going. Best of luck to you!
Truth be told. Four bad qualities of a You Tube vid: 1. Making you read text as opposed to hearing some narration. 2. Having an A.I. generated voice do narration for you (people in the comments can always tell the difference). 3. Not having any music. And.... 4. Disabling Comments....(cowardly, to be honest). If you have an educational account, that would be wrong. Just my opinions though. I don't make vids. But when I was going to college and needed a visual aid to learn some stuff about programming. I wanted to ask questions about the procedures they were doing. But couldn't. Finished the finals by finally finding some rabbit hole of vids that barely did an explanation.
@@maggie0417 Then I respect your frame of focus. I don’t think all nods need that. But you’re actually reminding me of someone I barely knew who was very subtle and polite but had no musical interest…. Because he just likes it quiet. Rare… It’s no wonder he could communicate well with other people and do well in class. Who knows, maybe he got more stuff done?
I thk your biggest success is on youtube your look, when I saw your video and decided to click cos I love Japan believe me your key is your look and content second suits u

Well, gotta try harder and do more without giving up ;)
I respectfully disagree.
Thanks… I am gonna continue trying. 😊 Let’s all try harder for 2024. 🎉
I sub to your channel good luck
@@TheCurlyGirlys thanks for the support. I supported u too. 😀
Let's do it !!!
yes definitely!🙌
Great video thanks! Just one tip though, some of the recommended tech is definitely unaffordable for many small TH-camrs. Rode and Sony have entry level products BUT there are many cheaper alternatives that you can start with and upgrade if your channel takes off.
This human is adorable and must be protected at all costs.
Wort wort wort
and so are you, adorable human being, much like me.
@@grandiosa86 🥺
The idea of solving your targeted avatar problem was Great, Thank you
You're amazing, Ruri. This is the first video of yours that I've seen, and, yeah, you're a dope human being! Thank you! 😁
Keep going you got this ❤. If it is painful and hard you know you're doing it right. 😅
Doing exactly this! Putting up videos and trying not to get discouraged with the lack of engagement. The experience in itself is worth it, it's a sort of hobby as well.
Been a while since I had time to watch your videos. The fact that I actually got at least 200 subs within some months, that's actually cool. I'm sure these advices are gonna work
This video is basically a 17 minute speedrun of courses that I paid thousands of dollars for. Well done Ruri, this is insane value.
I’m happy to have started the TH-cam journey and I wish the best for everyone else on a similar path. Awesome video and sending much love to you Ruri!
I'm on the path too, great luck to you❤
Thank you Ruri,Was thinking about starting a YT channel and I believe this channel is perfect for a begginer you excellently covered all the things
For cameras though should definitely check out the Sony ZV-E1, its basically the S3 at nearly half the cost and hot zoom and better framing, menu and AF.
a lot of things just went over my head but i think i understood what you said . Awesome content .
We’re a small channel started by my wife and me, focused on sharing insights from Leadership and Health experts. We’re deeply grateful for our 31 amazing subscribers who support our dream. Love your content. New TH-camr in Self development niche here. Let's connect.
Thanks for being such a influencing creator for this platform!
Glad to see your notification as always! Keep making such amazing content
Really helpful video for someone hesitant to start their YT journey. Thank you for the encouragement and your English is perfectly fine and not overly complicated by Ai, it's natural easily understood by someone like myself
Thanks so much for the tips Ruri. Wish us all luck!
Thank you. This was helpful to me as I do intend on starting a channel some day soon after some planning 😊👍🏻
Wow. It is exactly what I need. Thank you Ruri.
It sure is. I'm glad I found it! A lot of gems indeed!
I like the way you said that no one will watch the first perhaps 100 videos but you made it a positive thing. I'm tired of hearing coaches who make it sound like you're wasting your time in the beginning and will look foolish and laughable.
As always, Ruri is one of the best of all the time. Hello from Uzbekistan 🇺🇿
Good luck ❤ 🎉
I think your success has to do with the fact that you are so honest and authentic.
This helped me so much, thank you Ruri! Keep up the good work!
TH-cam has taken about 13 years to work out the audience for my videos ...
💀
I feel your pain, only just got a little traction 2 years ago after 10 years of basically nothing for my efforts. It sucks but im slowly growing now, just gotta stick with it and keep going. Best of luck to you!
@@MODGAMINYT Likewise, hope all goes well with your videos
😂😂😂😂
😮
This is something I learned or am learning through vid iq
Truth be told. Four bad qualities of a You Tube vid:
Finished the finals by finally finding some rabbit hole of vids that barely did an explanation.
you forgot to mention buying 1 millions fake suscribers to get to this 1,3 million lol and thats best case scenario...
Not having music isn't always wrong, it really depends on what type of video you're making and the vibe you want to give to your channel
@@divacroft1034 100% true. Subscribers are valuable because they're a guaranteed audience, if they're inactive accounts they're useless
I hate music on YT videos, I can’t stand it!
Thank u for your generous share, Ruri!
I just watch your channel for the time but I feel like it gave me the confidence to move forward without hesitation ,Thanks...from Bkk Thailand !😊
Thanks, this is what I needed sis ❤
Not picking a niche but Identifying your target avatar, 🎉 Great advice, It resonates with me. Thanks 😊
I want to make a video about thinking twice about starting a youtube channel. Even though it's a great thing, it has become a hamster wheel!
Every worthwhile job kinda is. 💀
Many people tell me to start a TH-cam I wouldn't mind making one but I'm kinda scared too
@@arrayahhenery9333 Well, why are you scared?
Working on spreadsheets all day was mind numbingly worse.
Amazing...i love the way you speak...i just found this after start my youtube channel...thanks
Think I’m about four years in now and just passed 1,000 subs myself.
And now I know why you have that recognition, it is called VALUE, and never give up…, you are admirable
Great video although Likes and Comments have very little to do with making your video go out into the "algorithm". I thoroughly enjoyed the info. Structured appropriately. Look forward to watching more 😊
I just got sick of waiting for the “perfect moment” to start, it doesn’t exist
I’m doing this for fun and if it grows? That’s a plus!
