    Tire noise usually changes with the road surface type.....wheel bearings are speed dependent only, and should sound constant.

      I just had a flat and I noticed something for the past few days. And it was on the same tire I replaced the wheel bearing hub on! So I hope the bearing hasn't gone to shit!

      I have a similar bearing sound, but it’s not constant. It sounds like it’s rubbing in a rotating cycle. Car doesn’t shake. I tried, and it’s really loud after 100MPH, it sounds like it contacts but not all the time as in rotates

    Hi Eddie, ralph here. i want to express my deepest gratitude for this video. I recently just came back from a 16hr road trip where my car started making that noise. All the noises that you described my car made, from driving up to 65 mph to 80 mph to down to 50 mph. I am headed to get it fixed. Again i am thankful for your video.

I have a 2004 G35 AWD and all four tires are less than a year old on my vehicle. The noise in your vehicle is EXACTLY like the noise I hear on my G. That is exactly the same wear pattern my tire just had and the guy at the tire shop said it was because of bad shocks. There is a humming coming from the rear tire, but it doesn't sound anything like the sound in the video. Its a very steady, low hum. Kinda high pitched. This sound is there again after he put the new/used tires on. It didn't do it for a while, but now the sound has returned.

    • @EddieCarrara1
      @EddieCarrara1  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey MrGhoastblood, if the noise disappeared and then cam back, I would have the tires checked again. A bad strut can really chew up a tire, but it won't wear diagonal flat spots, just chop the hell out of the tread, alignment problems and bent suspension parts do this kind of damage. Let me know how the tires look again, thanks.

      Hi Som, no, a vehicle out of alignment will not make noise, but a vehicle out of alignment could cause the tires to wear uneven and then cause a noise. If you have a helicopter noise and you have already rotated the tires and the noise is exactly the same, most likely you have a damaged wheel bearing causing the noise. Let me know if this helps.

    I have a 2014 Mustang Premium with the V6 automatic. I purchased the vehicle in August of 2013 from a Ford dealer about 50 miles from where I live. I had the first full service at the dealer at 8,000 miles and the tires were rotated.
    At 12,000 miles I had the oil changed again at the dealer, who also performed a brake check. All good they said. They told me they would not be rotating the tires that time but would wait untill the next oil change service.
    A few days after the visit to the dealer I began to notice a peculiar noise that seemed to come from the front driver's side wheel. Most of my driving is highway at about 60 mph. There seemed to be a minimal vibration, but only while driving, not while braking. At first I thought it was just my imagination. The noise was a "Whaa..Whaa..Whaa" that seemed to get worse as time passed.
    After a month of this, I returned to the dealer and described my car's symptoms to "the brake tech". He drove the car on rough city streets and proclaimed that there was some tire "singing".
    When we returned to the dealer's service department, he showed me that if I ran my hand over the top of the tire it was meeting resistance from the 'nubs' on the tire as I moved it toward the rear of the car, but that if I ran my hand in the opposite direction toward the front of the tire that there was no resistance.
    He further stated that the car really had the wrong type of tires on it. He said it should have highway tires instead of the Perelli Performance tires that came with it. He told me that they would "cross-rotate" the tires and increase the tire pressure from the factory recommended 32 Psi to 38 or 39 Psi.
    Although a bit perplexed at this point, I him to go ahead. I texted the salesman while this was being performed and expressed my skepticism.
    I must admit that the car rode 100% better when I left the dealership. It did seem to be riding a bit "high" on the front tires though and the steering was a bit "dicey" feeling. I attribute that feeling to the extra Psi.
    It has been about a month since this procedure was done and the original noise is beginning to become noticeable again. The car simply does not have the quite ride it had up until the 12,000 mile service. What can I do to get the smooth ride back???

    • @EddieCarrara1
      @EddieCarrara1  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi James, I'm surprised they didn't recommend an alignment check just for peace of mind. Unfortunately once tires are worn uneven you can't correct it. You may want to contact your sales person and ask for the ford rep to take a look at the tires, you may get some goodwill assistance from Ford to replace your tires. Let me know if this helps, and keep me posted on what happens, Thanks James.

      Eddie Carrara Thanks for the advice, Eddie. I've done some further internet research and have come across a few articles/blogs that fault the Perelli 18" Zero Nero tires themselves....seems at around 12,000 miles the problem with road noise surfaces...It appears it is a known problem and it distresses me that Ford would put these tires on it's Mustang...had I know this earlier, I doubt I would have purchased the car in the first place...I had a super quiet vehicle that suddenly is nothing short of aggravating to drive...Seems the "brake tech" at the dealership was on to something when he said the tires were wrong for the vehicle... It would appear that I have limited options : refit my low mileage car with a set of different tires, wear earplugs , live with it or have a face off with Ford. None of these options are pleasant....

      I feel your pain James, I have a 2013 Ford F150 and all the chrome on the truck is either bubbling or rusting, I have my own battles to fight with Ford. You may get some help with the tires tho if it's a known problem. I would check customer reviews at www.tirerack.com on that Perelli tire, just to see what consumers are saying.

    • @jamesharvey1825
      @jamesharvey1825 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Eddie Carrara Thanks again, Eddie. I did just that. One 2013 Mustang owner labeled the tires as "junk" at just 27,000 miles with unbearable road noise. That complaint was a common thread noted in other reviews as well.

I recommend having someone lift the car and inspect each wheel bearing with a stethoscope, it's the quickest and most effective way to diagnose a damaged wheel bearing. This in my opinion was a design flaw straight from Honda. It got worst after brake pad wear and rotor warp. My first drive shaft fell apart at 35K If I remember right. The second cracked at about 44ish. There is nothing I know that can fix this car. Probably would have cost to much money to recall. I wanted to love this car.

    • @EddieCarrara1

      Hi Harry, if the thumping noise wasn't there before replacing the tires, it's possible you have a defective tire. I recommend having the mechanic check the tire for hard or flat spots. Hi I have a question. I have a fairly new 2013 Ford Fusion. My mother recently was driving it and she hit a curb on the driver's front tire. She hit it hard enough to knock the front end way out of alignment and to gash the tire. Tire and rim has been replaced and front end was aligned. I am now hearing a loud cylindrical hum from front end. It only occurs at certain speeds though (35,45,55,65). The dealership says that everything looks good under the front end so I don't know what to do now. Should I ignore the noise and just get over it? It's quite aggravating. Any advice is appreciated. • @EddieCarrara1

      Hi DPC, yes, if it's a bearing noise you'll still hear the noise, if it's tire wear, the tire is no longer touching the ground and the noise will be gone. Keep in mind that a wheel bearing could look and feel completely fine and still have a problem. I recommend you run your hand across the top of your tire and feel the tread, if the tread doesn't feel smooth and you can feel high and low spots, most likely the tire chop is causing the noise. Hey bud, so I just bought a 2006 Highlander w 76k on from a dealership ( financed ). A week after I bought it I noticed a grinding sound when I press the break a release it slowly ( which I don’t like because the noise started to be more aggressive ) I took the car to them the following week and they said the brakes need to be cleaned which they did. Right after the gri ding noice decreased slightly but as soon I hit the road in my way home it happened again. The grinding sound only happened when I am downhill or sometimes on a straight road. They claimed its natural and that it happened to every car ( that I have to release the break quick which is BS to me )
    Second issue a month and so is now a wobble feel on the front right side of the wheel when I make a U turn or complete 360 turn. I took it to them and they look and told me the fix without telling me what was the diagnostic, again right before I left the dealership I test drive it but notice the same feel but less severe. Went home and gave it couple days but man oh man it getting worse. I decided to turn everything in the car to focuse on the noise and feel. Now not only the wobble and I also hear a metal robbing sound. I am not a mechanic but I am sure some is wrong there or something is worn out, old , not replaced.
    What do you think ? Would appreciate your response !

    • @EddieCarrara1
      @EddieCarrara1  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Roland, you would know better than anyone because you drive the car the most so I'm sure you have an issue. The wobble may be a tire but I'm not sure. The grinding noise is most likely the rust on the rotor hitting the caliper or something is off center and is touching the rotor. The grinding is probably a minor adjustment but someone has to find out what's causing it. I recommend bringing it back to the dealer and ask to take the mechanic for a ride so you can point out the noise. This is the best way to diagnose your issue, the best part is you and your mechanic will be on the same page. Keep me posted on what you find, thanks.

Steering wheel vibrates *mildly around 60+mph. the tire in my rear left looks just as worn as yours, *zig-zag* though yours looks rather extreme in the video. now my question is.. what causes the wheel bearing to fail or the tire to have an uneven "zig-zag" tread. I mean if you dont rotate tires for 15,000 miles, shouldnt all tires have uneven wear as opposed to just one? My other question is : Which one comes first? Does uneven tire cause the wheel bearing to fail OR wheel bearing cause uneven tire wear? Thanks Eddie

    • @EddieCarrara1
      @EddieCarrara1  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi crufzeiro, A few things or a combination of problems could cause the tires to wear like this. It's usually cause by poor alignment and worn or damaged suspension parts. There are only three things that make a wheel bearing fail,
      1. A damaged wheel bearing seal
      2. Damage from an accident
      3. Improper installation.
      A worn wheel bearing could cause tire wear, but it would have to have a lot of play at the wheel and would have to be driven on for a long time. Let me know if this helps crufzeiro, thanks.

The sound also doesn't change around corners it's all the same hum and it's pretty loud and annoying. We replaced one already and this would be the second both in the rear actually. They also don't seem to affect the tire itself so it doesn't sway left/right and I don't know if that's any safer or not. I've heard they can just freeze up and cause an accident but the last one did the same thing for a long time until we saved up money for the repair.

    Here's a trick: drive over new smooth road pavement - if you can find one in your area: if the noise goes away you know it was caused by your tire(s). If you go replacing a bearing, be sure to test it BEFORE undoing the bolts, spin by hand the bearing - with the axle and brakes removed, and feel if it's smooth

      Hi Stackin, Does the vibration ever get any better? Have you ever added fix-a-flat to any of your tires? Has anyone rotated the tires front to rear to see if the vibration is any better?

    How long do you usually have if your wheel bearings start to make an annoying whirring sound but there’s no play in the tires

    • @bangzoom22
      @bangzoom22 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’m pretty sure that’s what it is since it’s noticeable around 40 mph and then continues but not louder around 65

      Hi Joseph, a wheel bearing can make noise for a long time and never have play in the wheel. If your noise sounds anything like the noise in the video I recommend you check your tire tread for any uneven wear, if they look good most likely it's a wheel bearing.

    I have a hum noise in my 2006 honda crv that happens at about 75+ mph. It does not get louder as I go faster... it isn't even steady. It comes in waves with every gust of wind I can feel. You know how you can feel the wind gusts push against your car (especially SUVs)? It comes with every gust of wind. It's not super loud and does not increase in frequency or volume... just hear it on the gusts. Any ideas?

    I'm having a clunking noise along with the humming noise coming from the front end on a 98 Toyota Avalon. When I turn right, all of the noise stops. Gets louder when turning left. But the noise is consistent when going straight and gets faster as I accellerate. Can this be a wheel bearing issue? I wasn't sure if a really bad wheel bearing could cause a thumping noise that I can feel in the accellorator.

      Hi Chek, Wheel bearing don't usually make a thumping noise, so maybe you have two problems. How does your tire tread look, is there any uneven wear? The humming noise is most likely the wheel bearing so once you replace it you'll know if you have a second issue.

    What does it mean when it makes a noise when you slowing down ?

    • @EddieCarrara1
      @EddieCarrara1  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Ruben, if you hear this type of noise when coming to a stop it's usually caused by tires, wheel bearings start making noise around 20 mph typically.

    I watched your video about tire noise and wheel bearing noise. My problem is that after my car was hit in the side of the the right fender from someone running a red light, it started the tire slapping noise beginning at around 45 mph and gets louder at higher speed. The body shop said it was 'tire noise' but would not try to find why it started after the collision? I have a 1994 toyota corolla. I did get them to include a wheel alignment in the work ( the alignment was off a little after the collision) though the insurance company did not want to cover that. The noise was not fixed with the wheel alignment. What else would start the tire slap after a collision to the side of the right fender just behind the side lamp (side lamp was destroyed)? Thanks. Judy

    Thank you for this video, I'm now sure its my tires and not the wheel bearing... I didn't rotate my tires for a while and after i did i started to get this whooshing sound coming from the front driver side along with vibration. Sound just like that tire slap sound. My car also pulls a little to the right a I'm not sure if its from uneven tires or alignment.

      +Justin Mckowen
      Hi Justin, the tire wear may be caused by the alignment being out of spec, it could also be caused by worn suspension parts or or poor balance of the tires. You can start by having the tires balanced (if they are in good shape) and the vehicle aligned. If you're still having a problem with the vibration and pull, it may be time for new tires. Let me know if you have any questions, and thank you for the video feedback, I really appreciate it :)

      Hi, I have the same symptoms on my car as this guy. Is it dangerous or bad for my car to drive with the noise for a few days before getting it fixed on my day off

    • @EddieCarrara1
      @EddieCarrara1  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      You should be fine driving for a few days as long as nothing feels funky or dangerous.

    Its due to tire, not bearing do we need to worry about or just keep driving with bad tire?

    • @EddieCarrara1
      @EddieCarrara1  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi aarifboy, you can keep driving but keep an eye on those tires, you don't want the uneven wear to reach the belts in the tire and risk having a flat or blowout.

      @@EddieCarrara1 Those sounds started coming when i had a punctured tire and drove car to nearby shop. Used tire which i bought can be reason, or wheel alignment which may get wrong when driving with flat tire?

    Eddie Carrara What is the difference (if any) between a bad wheel bearing and wheel differential?
