i am using 12v cartridge heaters rated for 80w at 12v. they can take higher voltages and amps fir shorter periods of time. got 4 of them in paralel connected to welder output.
i have the same welder , it overheats and shuts off every 20 seconds of welding. i don't think it should overheat so fast ,please let me know if yours does the same so i will know if this is normal.

I had it plugged into a power strip with a self resetting breaker, so every time i used the welder it would trip the breaker and a few seconds later it would reset and the welder would turn back on. so the welder works fine, it's the dummy using the welder that is broken.
I have this machine and I've been happy with it. It runs 3/32" 6013 and 7018 just fine. Will run multiple rods without overheating. Actually I've never overheated it.
Your testing method is creative, I have never seen this done before. Impressive.

Mine works just fine I use 7018 1/8 rod just 1/4 inch seams and works perfect

@@Patrick-dr1xb for its size it can burn rod pretty well and can be carried anywhere
