I've got a Jacaru swagman that's moss backed suede (whatever that means). Treated it, oiled the brim, and sprayed the inside with a waterproof protector... more for my sweat than the rain. I've decided not to stick with suede - it just soaks up too much water/sweat. Looks like Barmah is the one that makes full leather, which you've shown is easier to waterproof. I'm really wanting one of those now because I just love this brimmed hat. It's fantastic! Thanks for your video!
I love your videos and love Barmah hats. I have the squashy kangaroo. Wherever I go I get compliments about my hat. Love this hat so I take good care of it. Looks awesome. It has protected my face and neck from sunburn. Keep making your great videos and thank you for sharing.
I absolutely enjoy your videos! Your videos have made me really want this hat in particular. I am definetly going to get one when I take my off road tour from Alberta Canada to California to Wyoming and back this July! Thanks for sharing your videos!
great video, just picked up a foldaway bronco and my daughter would love to have one!! Hope it stands up to snow in Canada!! Will pick up some protector and follow the steps ..thanks!!
I purchased a hat from this company in the US there was a guy that traveled the hunting show circuit. I purchased two of them from him over the years. He recommends a beeswax that comes in a tin. I purchased a 10 from him and that stuff last forever. I need to treat the leather again to keep it soft. These are very cool hats. I’m going to bring my hat with me to Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Malaysia Philippines I’m going to travel for six months to a year. This hat is going to get abused! I wish I had the original cloth bag . I have no idea what I did with the cloth bag. I’m sure I’ll find something that will suffice.. Nice video thanks for the pointers!!!
I love my Barmah hats. I have a American Bison leather hat and a regular cow leather Squishy hat. I use them for hiking and outdoor activities. I personally treat mine with Huberts shoe grease leather conditioner and waterproof; it's made out of beeswax and pine tar since 1929 and it works phenomenally!
Hey, love the videos on waterproofing and conditioning. I now have recently purchased a sundowner Roo, and a crackle on the horizon. I’m so fussy about my hats and want to keep them looking good and protected. And you seem passionate about yours as well. So, which do you prefer now, the Barmah waterproofing and conditioner spray or the wax, on this video? Neither of which I can purchase in Canada. Online from the UK only. Or I’m off to the local leather shoe/repair to fine something. Hate experimenting! Thanks.
i love my barmah hat i live in northern ontario canada mine has mesh half way to the crown! i really like the looks of your hat though!!!! great job on the video!!
Really like this one! I'm waiting for my Barma hat to come. Order it for about a week ago from Australia. I already have a Stetson camping hat but it's not the type i want. So I'm really looking forward to get this one. I'm going to waterproof it right away. Thanks for this video!
I must say this was a very good and informative video, I don’t have a proper Barma but I do have an explore bush hat which it’s a harder thicker leather made for the UK but zero waterproofing as found out the hard way! Would love a real Barma, so sometime soon I will need to look into it!
Was thinking of going the Eastwood or Jones' but now settling on the Roo look. Currently looking at Barmah or Jacaru, both I believe are Aussie. The Barmah 1018 IS ironstone looks a contender ATM. BTW, will any wax do, especially for roo hide?
Thank you for this! When I purchased my Barmah hat the package said I should use a spray to protect it from the sun. Do you have any recommendations for that product/ are you familiar with that?
Liked and Subscribed. Your review video on this hat sold me. Thank you so much for sharing your treatment technique. Now it's off to the shoe store to pick up some of that stuff!
Great video jack, i am thinking of getting the kangaroo barmah hat now after watching your vids. I would love to be in the running if you decide to put one in one of your GIVEAWAYS 👍
I've had mine for about five years and never waterproofed it. I live in Oregon and we get a lot of rain. Well the brim did a potato chip on me. I hope some leather wax will fix it. Thanks ;-)
I took mine into deserts, rainy swamps, and mountains. All I do is rub some mink oil into it and it's soft+waterproof again. (Plus, mink oil smells awesome.)
With Mink oil, use a paper towel or microfiber cloth, apply, wait for it to absorb, and REPEAT. After that, you can brush off the excess and smooth it out with a dry microfiber cloth.
Hey! Great video thanks for sharing!! Bought mine at a festival in Colorado a few years back and absolutely love it! Great for rainy hikes and keeps me nice and cool when the sun is beating down while hiking up 14ers in Colorado! Not sure if you already did the giveaway but absolutely I’d love a chance to win another Barmah hat!!!
Good luck. He said he'd toss a cleaner/waterproof product. He bought this hat himself - he's got nothing to do with Barmah. How about you go do a hat giveaway, since you fancy that idea.
Great video, thanks, I have a Squishy Kangaroo Barmah hat and love it, hoping it will help prevent any more skin cancer on my face, the main reason why I got it, have had it for almost a year and just got back from a trip to the western area in the US. The hat needed cleaning and found your video, which is great, have a question you might know the answer to , the braided hat band is mostly unglued, any ideas on how to fix this?
I just found your videos and subscribed; amazing work! I'm starting this year out with the "bushcraft" bug, and realizing how expensive this hobby is! No worries though, I go at my own pace. if you still have the hat and want to send it to Ohio, USA, it would be well taken care of. Peace ✌
Hey, do you do anything to treat the ‘suede’ under/inside of the hat? Just got mine and it has the distressed appearance and got some Leather Honey for the top. Not sure what to do to protect the underside. I imagine I could be throwing it around some dusty, grimy, muddy spaces and a good water proof finish for the suede side will be important too so i can warm water wipe any muck off
Quick question, I've got this "boot sauce conditioner" from timberlands, is this suitable for conditioning the hat? It's a cream base, not a water proofing wax/conditioner I think. Thoughts?
He only has this one roo hat, doofus. Why are all these bloody gypsies on here trynna beg just cause this nice English chap is showing how he conditions his hat. Some if y'all have zero shame. Get a job, if you wanna hat, ya bum.
i never water proofed mine and it got a slightly wavy brim. i kinda like it. but to avoid furthar wavness im gonna treat it from now on. does anyone know of any DIY wax recepies i could use?
Cool, by a long time what do you mean? Can It be kept like that in a bagpack for 7 days for example? I really enjoyed the video, I'm thinking about buying one now that I watched your video.
Great thanks, I've watched people submerge their hat in water and use it to take water from one place to another, would that destroy the hat since the inside isn't covered in wax?
I had mine crumpled and folded in a drawer for 2 years with no deformation or damage. Pretty resilient hat. Glad I brought it back into my circulation :)
I love mine! I have yet to ever treat it but I never wear it on rainy days lol. I guard it w my life. It's a black one and a lot of women call me sexy haha altho I am even without my hat lmao!!
Yeah, Barmah sells that size. That's who you would contact. This chap just has this hat, and is doing a video on how to care for it. He's not a bloody store, doofus. Quit your begging, it is pitiful.
Hi guys, I've done a new version with a new product on the market which you can watch here: th-cam.com/video/ScRgMBNUlAA/w-d-xo.html
Can't sleep now, been looking Barmah products because of you lol

I’ve been buying your hats and I absolutely love them.
Nicely made video, made me want a barmah hat to my hiking trips :)

That hat is gorgeous as hell. You sold me. I'm gonna buy one online tomorrow.

Thanks for the recommendation. I'll look for what similar we have got in the UK, but pin and bees wax makes sense
Love mine...recommend it 100 %...great in rain and snow

I just purchased my first barmah hat few days ago, it will come tomorrow or thursday

The hat looks simple and elegant. I don't have one but I have some belts, is that okay to wax it on the metal parts
hey - sure like your program. i needed to learn to treat my leather stetson. must try that BARMA. thanks.
I would love another I use the Australian wax. I have six hats that I treat with it what about a boot brush. Would that be okay to use.
I like the way you present at the hat ...!bro

Currently looking at Barmah or Jacaru, both I believe are Aussie.

Hi.,is it ok to wash a dirty leather hat with water and mild soap ,or judt use leagher cleaner thanks .
Thank you for this! When I purchased my Barmah hat the package said I should use a spray to protect it from the sun. Do you have any recommendations for that product/ are you familiar with that?

Thanks again! :)
Thanks for the video and greetings from Ukraine!

Sure. Re-glue it. Use leather glue.
Would you recommend treating a new hat straight away or is it already treated when new? Tks
awesome , I've never even heard of a Barmah hat , all we have here is the same old cowboy hats , where can you get one of those ?
Online.
I've found with my batman hat if you put it on and twist it on your head and then twist it back your hair will be more grippy on your head
Well, duh.... Batman's is made of stretchy fabric. This is an outback/kangaroo hat, Robin.
can you please let me know what model that hat is, i love that dark color but there is so many colors and i'm not sure what one yours is..
How long do you let it dry for? Mine just shipped from Australia. Thanks for your videos!
Glad I helped you. I just left it to dry that night, I've since worn it out in the rain and it works perfectly.
+Expedition Jack Perfect. The local shop sells that very product you used in the video. I will pick it up and dress mine. Thanks again.
I just found your videos and subscribed; amazing work! I'm starting this year out with the "bushcraft" bug, and realizing how expensive this hobby is! No worries though, I go at my own pace. if you still have the hat and want to send it to Ohio, USA, it would be well taken care of. Peace ✌
Mark Everman thanks really appreciate it.

If you feel a need, treat the suade part... with suade cleaner/protectant. At the end of the day, it's a hat. You'll be fine.
Is the spray nikwax any good ?
Quick question, I've got this "boot sauce conditioner" from timberlands, is this suitable for conditioning the hat? It's a cream base, not a water proofing wax/conditioner I think. Thoughts?
Chris von Detten should be alright i guess, kangaroo leather is soft leather so try and get something for soft leather i suppose.
my hat is pretty terrible so if you were to do a giveaway with one of these hats, it would be a great help. love the vids btw
Do they make a cream like this that waterproofs and conditions, I don't like the spray and I want to soften my hat its dried out
Sure do. Lots of different brands, even.
I'll give this a try
1:38 so you can fold it up like that and it won't loose it's shape of get bent and such?
Franklin Michael yes it's designed to fold that way for travel but not to store it like that for a long time.
Cool, by a long time what do you mean? Can It be kept like that in a bagpack for 7 days for example? I really enjoyed the video, I'm thinking about buying one now that I watched your video.
Franklin Michael yeah it should be fine as long as you wear it in the 7 days
Great thanks, I've watched people submerge their hat in water and use it to take water from one place to another, would that destroy the hat since the inside isn't covered in wax?
I had mine crumpled and folded in a drawer for 2 years with no deformation or damage. Pretty resilient hat. Glad I brought it back into my circulation :)
Bick 4 is also a good conditioner.
I got a Barmah hat, but the headband has come off, it looks pretty crap with it off, how do I put it back on ?Cant find anything on youtube
Re-glue it?
Nice video :) and new subscriber here!
I love mine! I have yet to ever treat it but I never wear it on rainy days lol. I guard it w my life. It's a black one and a lot of women call me sexy haha altho I am even without my hat lmao!!
I got mine, and I’m loving it. It’s my favorite leather hat so far and I treat it like a lady🤣
Combien cela ?
starting from £30 depending on style you go for.
I want one! I'm a 7 3/8
Yeah, Barmah sells that size. That's who you would contact. This chap just has this hat, and is doing a video on how to care for it. He's not a bloody store, doofus. Quit your begging, it is pitiful.
I use a beeswax mix on my leather hats.
How to water proof leather barma hat
