  • ***Ok... so maybe they didn’t repossess it. But McBean did take it and went waterskiing for his first time...
My good friend Jerry needed a ride up to Idaho to do some training. I am not one to turn down an adventure. Headwinds, fog and cold weather didn't keep us from having a good time on our trek to the Kitfox homelands.

Hey guys, sorry about the clickbait... Kitfox did not repossess my plane, I apologize for misleading you, but the next video I post will have a crazy title that I promise isnt clickbait! It will be a good one so stay tuned!

At least you are up front about it, so if I have anything bad to say it would be about unsafe flying, but that could be just the camera angle.

    Couple things:
    1) I've never been a huge fan of the Kitfox, but I'm slowly falling in love with your airplane.
    2) Your videos are reigniting my love of flying that has laid dormant for about 6 years since I quit instructing. I can feel my flying heart beating again.

    • @TrentonPalmer
      @TrentonPalmer  6 ปีที่แล้ว

Awesome! Glad I am helping reinvigorate your passion for flight! And be careful the Kitfox will do that to you, make sure not to take a ride in one, because then it’ll be hopeless and you’ll have to build/buy one... 😉

Thanks for making the extra effort to film your trip! Your a magician at editing. Loved the expression on Johns face when he water skied for the first time. Calm and collective. I'd be like " Holy s**t Trent! Please tell me you got that on film so I can show everybody I know!" Good call on the tour in the Kitfox hanger. Cool to see the fabrication shop in everyday life. Your awesome!

Back in the 80's when Stead Airport had an operation called Sierra Nevada Soaring which was a Soaring Operation , Rentals, School etc. It was owned by a retired SR-71 pilot named Bill Skliar. We had years of fun soaring around Northern Nevada. One thing we would often do is fly RC planes launched from our two place gliders. We had an "insane" group of pilots who teamed up with the sky diving operation. They would enjoy leaping from our sailplanes, but none of use reciprocated and tried our hands at skydiving. Anyway our gliders, just like your KitFox could fly slow enough to stay with the RC planes. We tried the same thing with our tow plane and Scout but the speed difference was too great and didn't work well at all. Other planes,172s and up were mostly out of the question. Another note about the glider operation at Stead those yeas from the late 70s through the 90s saw us do many things. We had a "Wave Window" wherein we'd call the FAA or the Reno Tower and they'd open a blocked section of airspace and they'd keep other traffic out of the 'Wave Window" and we'd make flights up to, I think the highest was 34,000 ft. (with dual oxygen systems for safety) I personally attained an altitude in our Wave Window of 30,500 ft. So, yes, there is a history of RC flights from aircraft over and around the Stead Airport by members of Sierra Nevada Soaring. Love what you guys are doing, keep it up!

Caught your vid on flying with the best Hollywood Camera. That is some impressive gear and wonderful camera work. Image of the camera body reminded my of my old Mamiya RB-67. Had a commercial artist paint the view finder shield with Mr Natural truckin' along pulling a wagon carrying the camera. Big heavy beast but I used to backpack in the Sierras with it. Great piece of gear.

Where are the hot that springs you flew over located?
Also, a bit of useless information... I landed my paramotor at the old airport in moab this last weekend just to talk to a couple of guys that were putting the wings in place on their kitfox. Aside from kitfox I couldn't tell you what any given plane was by looking at it, but from the air I knew they had a kitfox from where I sat in the air. I chatted with them as they were preparing for a flight, they mentioned that they love your videos, as do I, I can't wait to see your channel take off. Keep up the solid videos and top notch footage.

What is the music you have on this video? --- It's Lagoon by J.A.K. Trent had answered this question way down the comments list where I fished it out. Guess Trent doesn't want to be answering it over and over, so I came back via edit and added the answer to my own question in case some others are also wondering. I was surprised that my standby app for identifying music, Shazam, would not ID it. Trent, The music on all your videos is really nice. Overall great quality and very entertaining as well as informative. I'm new to this stuff, currently studying for the knowledge test, looking forward to flying.

You should get your instrument ticket, if you haven’t done so already, that way you won’t get socked in and try to scud run. It appears you have experience, judgement and skill, but I have known a few pilots that have bought the farm - CFIT. Sadly might I say, one was Paul Marchiosotta (sp?). Who crashed the day after he got his instrument. My CFI signed off on his hours and was very hesitant in doing so, he was a brilliant engineer (not the CFI) and only flew the minimum 40 hours. It was the day of Thanksgiving and he could of done any number of things to avoid putting himself in harms way. Three souls perished. The other was trying to get his buddy to the airport from KPSP in a Cessna Caravan after I believe he missed the flight, he flew VFR through Banning Pass (into IMC) and learned a hard lesson, unfortunately. I’m pretty sure this guy had thousands of hours? Like the saying goes “ there are old pilots and bold pilots, but there are no old bold pilots.” The other pilot I didn’t know was extremely skilled, an astronaut, and he was flying low in the Sierra Nevadas and I don’t remember what the NTSB report was but there most have been a strong rotor, mountain waves or a microburst and that pushed his plane into the ground ☹️
Nice videography thanks for sharing!! Fly safe and don’t succumb to peer pressure or in this day and age doing something to get that crazy video clip on TH-cam that could spell trouble?

Love the homedale airport, and there's good milkshakes with a short walk. :) I live just southwest of the KMAN pattern, which means my three year old waved at you while you were here. He waves. at. every. plane.

You definitely couldn’t do that water ski trick in Oklahoma! The water is never that calm. Too windy.

The green and black one is completed! That’s the speedster version, so it’s a fast one. Go check out the video on Kitfox Aircraft’s TH-cam channel, Kyle Franklin did an aerobatic routine in that plane at Oshkosh this year!
