  • Another week and another new series. This time I'm looking at some 10yr old, Scottish single malts. But not just your everyday, off the shelf 10yr old single malts. These ones require a little more thought.
    Hopefully this will be explained as the series unfurls.
    Enjoy.

    A cracking dram. The one that got me into malt whisky . I’ve found it consistently excellent over the years. Edradour have always used good casks. I’m at the moment drinking Edradour Caledonia.... that’s fantastic. Great review, Slainte mhath 🥃🥃🥃

      @@WhiskeyNovice I was just having Glenmorangie 10 for the first time. Listening to your glenmorangie review alongside. I noticed that it reminded me somewhat of Paddy Irish. Similar taste, at least upon first opening bottle. Second day it was much lighter in taste. Could just be me. Tastes do vary depending on the day.

    Will love this new series. Generally 10 year old whiskies are at a good price point. As you say, Big Al raves about the Edradour. The 10 is now on the 'want' list. Cheers, Jim! :)

    Beautiful. So many great notes and like you said, what a natural colour! wow. I have not had it yet. It's priced at 18 year old level in my market, which makes it tough. Still, I should try it. Thanks again for sharing! Cheers!

      Cheers Jon. Yeah it really is a bit pricey. Just seems to be the way with these smaller distilleries.
      If the 12 is anyway close in price to the 10 (it's not much more expensive here) I would pick it up instead. Really, really good whisky.

    Jumped over this one and went straight to the Natural Cask Strength 12yr sherry cask, then the Signatory single sherry cask 10. In the US this is 43% but the bottles I have seen are no where near as dark as the bottle you have. Wonder if it has been reformulated with more sherry casks ? Where I am there is not that much price difference from the 12 Calidonia so hard to pull the trigger on this one. Some of my favorite 10s are Glencadam and Benromach. Cheers Jim

    • @WhiskeyNovice
      @WhiskeyNovice  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Cheers Tim. Yeah if given the choice between this and the Caledonia...I'd definately spend that difference and buy the 12. It's a quality piece of work. The 12 and Signatory editions are hard enough to come by here in the UK. I mean, you can get them...but you'll have to work for it. Lovely stuff though.
      Thanks mate.

    The thing with a 10 series is that it should be 2 catagorys. Isla/Island 10's are a whole thing in themselves. A mainland 10 category is a whole second group. Good luck Jim !

    I had this once, years ago, and it didn’t sit well with me. Think I probably was too much of a novice then (if you’ll pardon my French), because other Edradours I tried over the years were often cracking. So must revisit this one and be on the hunt for that 12 yo Caledonia. Looking forward to your other choices because there are indeed an awful lot of pretty brilliant younger whiskies out there.

    • @WhiskeyNovice
      @WhiskeyNovice  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Cheers Menno. It's an aquired taste for sure. The 12, I feel, plays more "run of the mill" although still excellent. I do like this 10yr old although, as I said in the review, it requires a little acclimation.

    I like this, but I prefer the 10yo Signatory un-chillfiltered collection. Comes out every year @46% and is a nice conversation piece too (is this an independent or a original bottling?). The SFTC I have too seek out though. The only SFTC I know is the Ballechin 13yo Port Cask and is absolutely bonkers. Love Edradour, it's one of my top 3 distilleries.
