I have been looking forward to restoring this set for a long time. The Matchbox Major Pack M6A 200 Ton Transporter consisted of a Scammell 6x6 prime mover and a Crane 200 Ton Transporter trailer. Both came in shades of dark blue to the tractor and dollies while the trailer bed was shades of dark red to burgundy to maroon. Pickfords branding was seen on the Scammell and on each side of each dolly.
Pickfords were a major player in the heavy haulage sector between the 1950s and 1980s. This Scammell is based on a Super Contractor of the late 1950s, aligning to the Matchbox models 1960 release date. The company acquired a number of other heavy hauliers before making an exit from the sector in the 80s.
My example was a mismatched set as seen by the differing shades of blue on the tractor and dollies. The low loader was missing its towing hook and had been significantly scratched up. The prime mover was missing all of its Pickfords decals and had a loose base owing to its ineffectual spread rivet at the front of the casting.
