Open studio

- Today I’ve opened my studio for the first time. I’ve done loads of art trails, but always at other venues, so I thought you might like to see behind the scenes, even if you don’t live in Berkshire. It’s quite strange welcoming people into my personal creative space.
And if you see a painting you love, let me know. I’m doing a special studio sale on quite a few pieces.
Every like and comment tells TH-cam to show this to more people, so please jump in and share with your creative friends. If you really, really like this content and want to support me you can donate at Kofi. I have just set it up at: ko-fi.com/lizc...
Every week I share a tip, trick or technique I wish I had known when I started painting, so if you enjoyed this please like, comment and subscribe. Or if you have a watercolour problem, let me know and maybe I can help?
If you want to have more in depth courses please head over to www.lizchaderto.... I also run a friendly Facebook group: groups/watercolourstudiowithlizchaderton .

How gentle and gracious you are Liz to let us see your art space.
Your exhibition is so not intimidating yet very welcoming.
It's a treat to see your wider body of work, and hear your straight forward explanation of your work.
May you have a blessed weekend with rewarding results, bless you
thank you! I really want to make Bith painting and looking at art, accessible
Thank you for taking us on a tour of your studio and garden. It is gorgeous.
So much beautiful art.
So nice of you
I love to see artists' studios as having one is only a dream for me. Thank you so much. I hope you have a lot of people come through and that they become buyers while visiting. Your work is so colorful and lively! The birds are wonderful as they actually look like they are in flight. If I had the good fortune to live in the UK, I would definitely come visit! I love your garden and hope the frogs enjoy the day. Good luck with the rain!
Thank you so much. Th3 frogs are enjoying the rain more than me!
Absolutely wonderful, thank you for letting us look around. I wish you the best of luck in sales over the weekend. 👩🏻🎨🎨🖌️
Thanks so much!
Thank you so much Liz for sharing your open studio especially with those of us who can't attend in person. It was wonderful to see where your magic happens and the variety of artwork you've created. I absolutely love your style! Wishing you well and hope you have a lot of visitors! ☺
that’s so kind of you
How I wish I lived in the UK and I could visit you in person. Thanks so much for sharing your space here so we all could enjoy.
You are so welcome! Thanks for dropping by
Gorgeous work! I really love the aboriginal spin you put on the Kangaroo! Wishing you all the best & much success! 🙏🏽
thank you. I tried to capture the feel of the Aboriginal art without ripping it off…
Thank you for the tour - what a wonderful studio and garden to visit. Amazing artwork and loved looking in your sketchbooks. 🙏💜
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you for sharing your studio and garden. This is a real treat for me living far from you (Italy). Really like your works. Thank you so much for this opportunity to visit your space and for sharing your knowledge through TH-cam.
So nice of you
Fantastic! I like messy shops, and messy studios 🤣😜. Because everywhere you look there is something to see. Your garden is also very nice. I myself paint watercolor landscapes and especially like to see paintings from my environment. But i find your paintings very special, and it looks like you can paint everything 👍🏻. I particularly liked that painting of the geese in flight. Hope you have/ had a very successful and enjoyable day with lots of visitors!
Oh that's very kind of you. Those geese fly over and usually try to poo on the conservatory roof - sounds like a bomb going off!!
Hullo Liz, this is a lovely tour of your lovely studio! I am very envious of your garden space too! Our lot is at the end of a court in the development we live in and it also backs up to a Greenbelt. This is a fancy way to say unimproved acreage! It is about 300 acre's of country space. When we moved in it had several herds of cows! Now it has been fenced into 3 parcels and the cows are less often visiting! We did put up a good wire or stock fence across the back of our lot. We had quite a few visiting cows coming through before we got it up! I guess the grass is greener looking of not actually greener on the other side of the fence! I do hope you sell some of your pieces as they do look so lovely from here!
300 acre as is a farm. I’d love more garden for an orchard and chickens, but we live in a crowded little island….
LIZ!!!!
What an absolute joy to be able to see your beautiful spot in this wonderful world of ours. Thank you SO much for sharing.
I am always so blown away by your art. You are AMAZING.
Good luck with your show. I know you are going to do well. Xoxo
Kim from NB Canada.
thank you so much Kim!
Lovely! Thank you for sharing your studio and surroundings! I enjoyed "visiting" very much!
thanks for popping in!
Oh, Liz! This is just fabulous...absolutely love everything about your studio and I am so captured by your work. Any single piece is something I would love to have in my home. I had a giggle with the "Jackalope". When I looked a second time, it seemed the antlers might fit a moose as well, and in that case, you'd painted a "Moose-abbit". Either way, such fun, and your skill and style is really something to take in. Congratulations! And thanks so much for sharing. 🙏❤🙏
ooh, a moosabbit is new to me 😆
What a wonderful tour. Thank you so much!😊
my pleasure
So beautiful Liz! Amazing art work!!! Here I thought you were an urban sketcher only! Love all the animals!
Thank you so much 😀 urban sketching is my relaxation and animals are my ‘work’
Such a beautiful little piece of heaven you live in, with a touch of creative chaos. I wish I lived close enough to enjoy your hospitality, but Arizona USA is a bit too far. Thank you so much for sharing.
Seems a little far 😆
How lovely to see so much of your work in one place / in one video! I would love to be there in person, but this really is a great alternative. Many of the pieces in the video feel almost like old friends as I've seen them on your website or in videos, and there is so much more! I envy those who get the chance to see the real thing... By the way, I love your garden too :)
Thank you so much!
This is incredible!! How wonderful that you took us on the lovely tour to see your space. Your paintings are just beautiful. To have done so much work this just blows my mind! Your style is so unique! So variable! I’m just a beginner so have much to learn! Thank you 💞
You are so welcome!
What a beautiful studio. And your paintings are stunning. I love your paintings of buildings like your local pub, church etc. I do have your book, ‘Line and Wash Painting’ and I love all the ideas in it. One day, I’ll pluck up the nerve to do an Ink Resist canvas. I particularly like the Ridgeway works, The White Horse, The Pathway and the Smithy. Fabulous! And thank you for sharing and I hope your open day was a big success. 😊
Oh thank you so much. Delighted to have sold Uffington White horse last week.... It's such a great process - have a go!
From
Elme, town Benoni, South Africa. Totally splendeferous wonderfully, creative artwork. Love it too bits. Havelooked at your work on You Tube🎉. Thank you for your open day
thank you for visiting!
Love your paintings and your Studio.
Thank you! Cheers!
your paintings and display are lovely, but oh my, your conservatory and garden!!!!
is that oh my good or bad?? My garden is to encourage wildlife, but it drives a gardener friend mad, he keeps reaching for the shears....
@@LizChadertonArt i loved loved loved your garden (and conservatory space) - it looks like a nice place to spend time
@@louisea966 it is!
Wonderful-thank you very much for letting me in to your wonerful art spaces: Love from kathrin in Sweden

Hi Liz! This is a wonderful studio presentation. I just love all of your paintings!
Thank you Irene!
Lovely paintings and I finally know what a jackalope is
every day is a school day 🤣
Liz, thanks so much what a wonderful tour. Wish I could see it in person! Hope it’s a successful weekend!
Thank you so much
Liz, your work is amazing. Much love!
thank you so much
I recently subscribed after watching your videos regarding watercolor and tissue paper/plastic wrap. Love the techniques.
Wonderful. Like a dream world and so comfy. So different from my desert world here in New Mexico, USA.
Pray all goes well and you get several buyers.
Blessings 🤗🌹
yes, we are green, cool and it’s now raining… but the desert is beautiful too
Wow that a gorgeous a studio setup & I love 💕 your yard, garden & pond!! I would have loved to see that in person! Thank you for sharing this wonderful tour!! Good luck 🍀 with your sales & visitors!
so kind of you to pop in!
Thank you for sharing your work and your amazing space!
my pleasure!
Just stunning❤ what an inviting and lovely studio and setting. Good luck Liz 😊
Thanks so much! 😊
Looks fabulous Liz. May many of your beautiful pieces of art make their way to new homes ❤
Thanks so much 😊
What a lovely tour! I wish I could see it in person but it would be a long hop over the “ pond”. Thank you!
a bit too far….
What a beautiful setting for your gorgeous work. Wish I could zip over however a " film" was awesome!
All the best😊
so glad you could pop in… (film = 🤣)
Wonderful, Liz!!!! Congratulations!! What a lovely studio!! I hope you were very busy!! Wishing you profound success!! ❤
Thank you so much!
Liz, wish I lived in the UK so I could visit your studio! Alas, I will have to admire from afar in the States, but wow, wow, wow! You are so talented and I absolutely love seeing all your different styles. Such a joy. And your garden is perfect-I aspire to such a little jewel :)
Wow, thank you!
Love the art, especially the book you had made of your art
thank you! I really like that too
Liz I’m glad I don’t live close enough to visit you because I would be sooo tempted to buy some more of your wonderful work. I can’t believe some of your older pieces haven’t sold. They are just beautiful. Sadly my one wall that needs adorning gets full sun so not suitable for a masterpiece. Good luck.
you are kind! I think there is someone for every painting, but these just haven’t found their someone yet and I need tge space!
Your studio looks great! You thought of everything. I especially like that you put your sketchbooks out, I went to several open studios last year, and I really enjoyed them. No one put their sketchbooks out though, I do find them inspiring.
Oh thank you!
Thankyou for sharing all your beautiful artwork. If I lived close by I would be there in a heartbeat 😊. I particularly love your sketchbook/journal work, as that is what I currently enjoy doing. With everything you do, I'm amazed you also have time to write?! Fingers crossed you sell lots of your pieces this weekend!
Thank you so much!
Wonderful studio! ❤
Glad you like it!
Beautiful
Thank you
That’s a brave thing to do! I hope it goes well for you. 😊
yes, I do feel brave
I just found you today. You are SO inspiring!
Welcome to the channel and thank you!
I love your art! I wish I lived close by. I'm in Texas.
yup! that would be above and beyond!
Liz, your space is wonderful, and that's an understatement! You filled us in with bits and pieces as you were preparing, like your post when you were up the ladder painting the outside of the studio, but I love seeing how everything has come together - you certainly have been extremely busy AND still painting as well! People are going to LOVE it! I am sure about that!🥰
How prolific you've been - that's quite the collection of paintings and journals and sketchbooks - all so "you," but diverse at the same time!
Have loads of fun and I hope lots of your work find new homes!
you are so lovely Tracy! your comments are always so thoughtful 😊
@@LizChadertonArt 🥰
Your work is amazing! I would love looking through it all. My work is VERY different than yours but you are inspiring me! Thank you!
but isn’t that tge good thing? we all paint so differently?
Loved the tour of your studio. If you're ever so inclined, perhaps you could offer some tips and tricks for lighting your work area. The lighting in my home is abysmal, and I'm considering trying some fill lights based upon what I've seen in your videos so far.
I really struggle with my lighting. I have great overhead LED lights which are super for painting but flicker on film and then filming lights I never feel are bright enough. my studio faces north so I struggle….
I live too far away to visit so it was so lovely to watch the tour of your studio and garden. Everything is so wonderfully set out for visitors to enjoy. I really liked the photo book, is that something you may consider making into a book to sell? All it would need is the title of each painting and a short sentence about the technique. Just an idea, you may have already thought of this of course. It would be good for people who cannot afford an original painting.
sadly it was a photo book and cost a or to do! a few people have asked about it, but the cost is prohibitive I reckon
@@LizChadertonArt That is sad, maybe an idea for your publisher!
I hope it went well Liz. If I could’ve visited I would. But Australia too far away 😢
yes! a bit of a trip, but I did buy Timtams yesterday…..
Hi Liz lovley open studio, hope it all goes well after all your effort. Can I ask thinking of getting a garden studio, is your insulated? How is it to work in during the winter? Hope you don't mind me asking but a big investment so want to make the right decision. Good luck for the weekend and your wonderful paintings sell 😊
I love my studio. it is insulated below floor and in the ceiling, but it still gets very cold. I have an electric heater and a very thick jumper! I would say, get the thickest logs you can afford, the best insulation and as many power sockets as you can fit. I have a remote control so I can switch the heating on from the house in the winter…..
@@LizChadertonArt Thank you so much appreciate your reply I know how busy you must be. Some good advice thanks again.
Good luck getting those prices. Not that they aren't worthy, they are beautiful; but they've already earned their creation costs through TH-cam videos. They've already earned their keep through video monetization. Most will not pay for what's already been paid for.
I do wish you great success. I hope you sell them all.
I'm not sure that is a very helpful comment and it is also not correct! The vast majority of these paintings weren't painted on or for TH-cam so until they are sold they have earned nothing. Saying they have already been paid for is plain wrong. I am a full time artist, so selling paintings (along with teaching, writing) is how I earn my living. Sadly TH-cam would not keep my family fed! If you don't believe me take a look here: th-cam.com/video/I0dKQXWwO68/w-d-xo.html But thank you for your wishes of success.
You are so rude.
@@paulinewhite3273 not at all. Merely voices an opinion and wishes of success. Nothing rude about that. Words in and of themselves have no emotion. It is the listener / reader whom attributes emotion to words. If you saw rudeness is because that's who you are and what you look for in life. Even if I were being rude, which I wasn't, but if I were; it sure is funny you lack to see the uber within yourself. Funny how you don't see the possible irony of you being rude while calling others rude. Not that I think that because I don't. You're fully entitled to voice your opinion and I welcome it. Just pointing out the hypocrisy of your beliefs and actions.
Thank you for taking the time to communicate your feelings with me. Have a great day Pauline and a wonderful holiday.
Where did you find the round journal please?!?!?
I mad3 it, but I saw your other comment so you know that 😊
Why do I live in the US?!!😩😩😩
Because you are very lucky 🥰
thank you so much
I am all for AI. AI is a threat to those whom cannot draw. AI will erase those selling prints, abstracts and EXTREMELY over priced originals. Not only will AI be able to create images, but it will also soon be able to paint them with all the texture and brush strokes any human could. As an artist I cannot wait to see AI destroy those pretending to be artists while at the same time elevating those whom actually are. Also, I cannot wait to see original art selling for $20-$50 a peice rather than the over priced nonsense ppl believe themselves worthy of today. We aren't curing cancer. We aren't saving lives. Now, We merely record a dying culture. Nothing more. I do believe AI will destroy modern / abstract art. I do believe AI will force a return back to meaning, beauty, emotion, divinity (whatever that is) to art. While simultaneously making art accessible to all. Regardless of economic class.
I pray AI will force other artists into a p & l business model. Instead of this monkey see monkey do charge per sq inch nonsense. So yeah, I can't wait for AI and I do not see it as a threat in the slightest.
I too want to embrace AI, though for very different reasons by the sound of it. Certainly wishing it wasn't here is not going to make it go away. I take a different view of the role of art - it doesn't cure cancer, but sometimes it saves lives and without art (in the widest sense) what sort of quality of life would there be? A world with out books, film, tv, music, sculpture, paintings, design would be a drab world indeed.
@@LizChadertonArt I do not disagree with that at all. In fact, I agree so much I hold art to a higher standard because of it. Hence why I have hope AI will bring quality back and elevate minds and souls back to when they desperately need to be. Back when it had purpose. When ppl, thought, expression, debate, culture, etc had purpose.
@@phillipstroll7385 I think I have a more optimistic view.
