Respectfully if you're getting a card cleaned for your personal collection I don't see a issue with it. People are up in arms about things that are probably gonna sit in a binder and traded at a card shop. As long as its disclosed, I don't see too much of an issue or at all.
You say that until you have a card rejected for altering, happened a couple times already here. As the card moves hands and is sold, people won’t question it and we are up in arms because some of these people do nefarious things with altering cards.
@@OpossumBudthe real question to me is why they're rejecting pristine quality cards for adding a wax that comes on the cards from the factory. When you restore a cars original paint you polish the clear coat and add more clear coat, its still a 96' mustang not an "Altered 96 mustang", it just seems like people want to limit the amount of pristine cards on the market. Not fair to you that you have to get rejected for a card that you can't even physically tell the difference from as a consumer.
@@FelixgreenYT what’s absurd is the people pushing this product should absolutely want to limit the amount of “pristine quality” of any product. The less of something there is with demand the pricier it is, and everyone using this product wants to do so to increase the value. By their own logic they’re working against themselves, or they don’t care about the medium they’re altering at all past a quick buck. That’s what’s wild to me.
Applying a wax or coating to your car helps maintain the car and keep it in good condition, which in return, keeps the value of the car higher than one who lets it rust or scratch, etc. Buffing out scratches or blemishes on a car and making it look new again also keep a car's value and condition high.

I grade cards with PSA on a pretty regular basis--for pretty much every card, I wipe off the front and back with one of those slightly damp microfiber wipes made for cleaning eye glass lenses (as they're designed to not scratch the lenses)...as I buy a lot of cards full art cards from the B&W and XY eras (Japanese by the way), they usually have a little bit of dust and dirt that's accumulated over the years, but it's a quick 30 second wipe down and that's it. I can't imagine trying to apply some kind of cream or jelly to the card to cover up the scratches, and I would think over time the chemicals would break down and either the card would deteriorate quicker or the scratches and print lines would start to show again.
That’s my mindset exactly, what the hell kinda stuff are you applying and what does it do to cards long term? You have a PSA 19 sure but a year later it gets all crinkled and discolored?? 2022 company as well no way he has tested any of this stuff he uses long term
You don’t use a “cream or jelly” to cover up anything. This just goes to show you and OPs incompetence. The “cream or jelly” is used as a lubricant. Holos are made of foil which is a thin sheet of metal. Polishing it is the same as polishing a car. You remove the outmost layer of the foil and try to level the surface so that light refracts from it more effectively.. people should really do some research on the difference between polishing, and masking.
@XxSylasxX is polish what the guy was using? Do you happen to know that it was or what kind? I just want to use it for myself to enjoy scratches are an eyesore imo
I can tell you don't actually grade for PSA because we don't wipe the cards with anything. Even microfiber lense cleaners can get dirt stuck between the wipe and the card and cause micro scratching. At PSA we were trained to never touch the surface of the card with any foreign object, ever. Grade as is no exceptions. Don't spread misinformation
I’ve seen a local card shop of mine do this, and they do the super suspicious and probably damaging cleaning where it literally fixes a card of scratches n such, on top of pressing creases and such, I’d honestly say, cleaning as in dust removal is fine… anything else is usually used to just get the card to squeeze an extra 1-2 higher grade
And that’s considering the grading company doesn’t catch it and send it back altered ungraded 👀 I agree dust and dirt removal is as far as most people say it should go!
I’m confused about why this is such a terrible thing to do? Unless the product wears over time and then your 9-10 looks like a 7-8 why wouldn’t you want your card to look better?
If you're doing it for your own personal collection and because you want the card to 'look nice' that's one thing. And go for it, do what you want. But, if you're planning on sending the card off for grading or plan to resell the cards later, it's a jerk move. It prevents someone the chance of getting a high graded card that might mean alot to them. It's also scummy to try and make a heavily played card look nice for the sake of getting a high grade for the purpose of profit. It rips someone off of not getting a genuine, authentic card and gives the seller undeserved profit for something they shouldn't be making profit off of to begin with.
@@PhantaxPlaysif you were gonna sell your car, is it fucked up of you to clean it before selling it? No? Okay, didn’t think so. I’ve never cleaned a card, but this logic is silly at best, and braindead at worst.

This is comical, truly. Collectors. If you want to clean and polish your cards before grading, do it, just practice 1st and make sure to get ALL THE PRODUCT off the card or it will be denied for grading. Sports card collectors have been cleaning, polishing, fixing dented corners, fixing creases for over 40 years. Why is the pokemon community so toxic and unwelcoming??
Vintage Pokémon cards are not he same as glossy sports cards like this product is advertised for. Use at your own risk and don’t complain when your cards degrade faster 🤷🏽♂️
Don't care too what people think about that, but cleaning a card is NOT altering it. Why is that so? If you make it more dirty ... didnt you altered it too... just in the worse direction? So why shouldnt cleaning be allowed? I think most people are just mad, because some ppl know how to do it and some not. Altering would be to remove scratches, add more colour etc. but not simple cleaning.
@@OpossumBudif someone is doing this to gain a profit, yeah I agree with you 100 percent it's deceiving and unethical. Idk what that guy was using to help hide the scratches but I sure wish I did, because it make the card look a lot nicer and yes we don't know what it'll do in the long run but I would like to improve the look of my holos if it means they'll look nicer and help hide the ugly scratches my cards have. It would be for my happiness when I look at them. I'm not sure how you feel about that though.
Ngl. I don't see much wrong with taking scratches away as long as it's permanent and doesn't damage the color or other aspects of the card. Other things like bends and white chips on the card can't be fixed

@Opossum Bud To facilitate a discussion historical paintings go through restoration and maintenance not sure on the process but we can view Pokémon cards as “art” which they are (in my opinion). Why do we as a community draw the line and frown upon on restoration or preservation methods? Would genuinely love to know your thoughts! -Iron
Well color me an art critique but I would dare say the difference between art restoration and card restoration lies within two points: Monetary incentivizing to do so and The level of education and practice in doing so. For one, historical paintings are not restored typically to be traded and graded like cards are, and typically moved hands for historical or preservation purposes. Also I don’t think historical societies hire some guy making “homemade card polish” in a 2022 started company and product to restore such arts, it’s probably someone with product tested over years and observed for long term affect in the medium applied to it. This guy is selling card polish “approved” for use and getting cards graded by the major authentication venues. That’s the difference hope that helps
@@OpossumBud Love the response brother, while I definitely agree, you can see the nature of this individual is predatory and nefarious. I also feel like a little more research into art preservation and restoration would be beneficial to the card collecting communities education to annotate those keen differences, or even similarities if there are any. Now for the BIG question: Is there anyway you can see restoration or preservation of vintage cards as a positive thing in the community if done correctly? If so what would that have to look like, and if not why? 😂😅 I whole heartedly ask out of genuine curiosity ❤️ -Iron
As long as vintage cards move between hands for personal or monetary collections, I do not. There will always be a reason existing for someone to take a scummy route or fake condition, regardless of whether or not someone does it or not

i modified my flash to pass lens on the rx7.. the whole weekend ive been wet sanding the lens but this morning i accidently smeared silicone and tried to have to wipe the stuff off. and it made then lens look just as clean but oily like that charzard. i know that sanding oens with 600 and then spray activated catalys clear coat will restore lens. but back to the silicone. that might actually be difficult to identify for those cards that did pass thru psa awhile back.
i couldnt wet sand he lens from all the pits.. but that actetic acid silicone really fill the pits while thin filming the whole surface. made the then shit look really clean.,but im sure the acetic acid in the silicone will eventually eat up the foil portion because silicone slowly decays from amophrous silica unbinding. unless its neutral cure silicone. which is difficultto find. fyi neutral cure is electronic safe. cheat code . but gyea

This is my opinion, I highly doubt CGC would accept these let alone be in a partnership. I saw a video Rattle Pokémon posted about card altering. The person altering the cards specifically didn’t want to send to CGC because they caught and rejected his cards before. This is according to Rattle’s video. And Rattle hates grading companies but even he gave props to CGC.😂 BTW the Banjo Kazooie music fit so perfectly 😂
Yup rattle is the one who talked about it and who I researched after making this vid, it’s scummy as hell imo. Thank you and Banjo goes with everything! 😎
I follow the guy. He most definitely has a partnership with them. Iv seen him submit the cards he has cleaned and returned. He must be partnered because he swears about CGC and no other company BUT CGC. CGC must be giving him some sort of discount per submission
Cleaning up or even coating/altering a card you’re going to display in your personal collection is fine, but yeah that card should never be sold or graded
As you can see though they advertise this is grading safe and “partnered” because it’s not altering 👀 if it was their personal cards I’d have no issues, but it extends past that 😐
Nothing is considered natural to a card. Water is not natural for a card. I’m really confused what the problem is with this, like why is it bad if he fixes scratches?😂
Because chemically applied “fixes” made for sports cards and not vintage Pokémon cards not only isn’t accepted by grading companies, it will also degrade the cards faster with chemical applicants. Their own website says it’s strong enough to remove serial numbers and signatures, and non glossy vintage cards stand no chance
PSA notices if you clean the paper, and it doesn't get evaluated...they have sophisticated equipment that costs a lot of money, so you can't screw them, you can only try.
I will be calling this card altering process "card splooging" from now on. Lmao! Yeah, this stuff is just ridiculous. I don't understand why anyone would wanna do this except to swindle. Horrific. If you’re going to attack another content creator, you should do it more professionally. Use credentials to back up what you are saying and throw some facts in as opposed to curse words. This is just my opinion. Personally I have over 15 CGC graded cards from L.T.Collections all which went through the cleaning process. All came back graded with zero rejections. He has also sent cards to other services which came back graded. We all have our opinions on cards when it comes to care. Maybe you have worked for one of the major grading companies but to speak for them by saying they would be rejected, please give evidence or facts because I know two services which graded them. I’ve seen at least 50 maybe 75 come back to L.T.Collections. I have no issue with your opinion, we are all entitled to have one. Just present a factual argument to oppose what you believe is wrong. Again this is all my opinion. Have a good day and best of luck with your channel!
Hey man, I just want to ask if you happen to know what that guy was using on the cards or what I could use for my own cards? 40 years ago, wood furniture polish (the spray on kind) was used to restore the shine to sports cards. This isn't a new concept -- this isn't and has never been considered altering, for several decades now. The ONLY issue with doing this is lack of transparency. I sold a polished card years ago - and supplied a detailed provenance from the moment is was ripped by its prior owner that included said polish. Why? Why not? The value of the card wasn't impacted. Polishing a reflective surface (foil) isn't the same as using humidity tricks to remove small dents or resolving bent corners which absolutely is altering. I suspect you're getting polishing mixed up with adding a new reflective clear coat - which isn't the same, and not all polishes will leave a residue/coating.
The grading companies and half the community beg to differ. I don’t care what people do with their own cards. But like you said, transparency will be lacking and untested crap will be traded to another person without their knowledge. I said what I said and will not back down from it
Stay away from my cards with that giant Q-Tip! Seriously lightly wiping over your cards is one thing ( I tend not to do this for fear of scratching) but sending your cards to a card spa is a little questionable in my opinion. 👀😱
Kinda funny, yesterday i was checking a binder i bought around 5 years ago with Topp chromes cards in it. and seems the cards never left that binder for a couple years. and i was really considering on cleaning the cards but idk.
Ive never cleaned cards but i have a guy here locally and he uses a card solution u seen in this video on cards that had light surface scratches and his cards came back a 9 he showed me pictures of before and after and showed me the cards in the slabs
Polishing a card is not by any means altering it. Polishing and waxing a card are 2 completely different things and that’s something you need to comprehend. Polishing a card is only removing imperfections, not adding anything to it. Vaseline, compound, and other products are used as a lubricant. If they add a ceramic coating to it or something then yes, that’d be altering the card.
False, false, and false. You are chemically removing things from your card. I don’t care if people do it, but we’re gonna call it what it is. Altering.
@@OpossumBud you’re not chemically removing anything.. the polish is an abrasive and a lubricant at the same time. Thats called mechanical removal if anything. Please stop using terms to you know nothing about.. polishing it removing the outmost layer in order to level the surface. It’s not covering anything up. I’ve sent cards in for grading both polishing, and putting a wax on them etc. every card I send in using a wax, ceramic coating, or anything else that didn’t PHYSICALLY level the surface and only made it appear perfect instead of actually fixing the problem was sent back with an “altered” grading.
@@Yessirski999 "Okay, didn't think so" bro, your arrogance is off the charts. Just because you don't agree with a statement doesn't make it ignorant or 'braindead' as you put it. It just means you're not smart enough to be tolerant that someone else has a different opinion than you.
Simply means your parents didn't do a very great job at teaching you to grow up and accept that other people can think for themselves, even if you don't agree with them.
@@PhantaxPlays If you can’t follow the logic, I’m not interested in conversation. It’s not up for discussion, it’s a matter of fact; this isn’t altering, simple as that.

Sure he's applying it but then he wipes it right off. Sooo not sure dude seems like a cleaning.
Tell me why we got cards getting the spa treatment and I haven't had human contact in years.
That’s what I’m saying they getting better treatment than I ever get 😂
Honestly the fact people can't tell the difference between altering and cleaning is kinda crazy
It’s new people or people who are unaware 😕
Don't care too what people think about that, but cleaning a card is NOT altering it. Why is that so? If you make it more dirty ... didnt you altered it too... just in the worse direction? So why shouldnt cleaning be allowed? I think most people are just mad, because some ppl know how to do it and some not.
Altering would be to remove scratches, add more colour etc. but not simple cleaning.
Is adding polish the same as cleaning away dirt?

I whole heartedly ask out of genuine curiosity ❤️
-Iron
As long as vintage cards move between hands for personal or monetary collections, I do not. There will always be a reason existing for someone to take a scummy route or fake condition, regardless of whether or not someone does it or not

So how do you get rid of surface scratches on foil cards ?
You prevent them, you don’t remove them. Removing them is called altering
i modified my flash to pass lens on the rx7.. the whole weekend ive been wet sanding the lens but this morning i accidently smeared silicone and tried to have to wipe the stuff off. and it made then lens look just as clean but oily like that charzard. i know that sanding oens with 600 and then spray activated catalys clear coat will restore lens. but back to the silicone. that might actually be difficult to identify for those cards that did pass thru psa awhile back.
i couldnt wet sand he lens from all the pits.. but that actetic acid silicone really fill the pits while thin filming the whole surface. made the then shit look really clean.,but im sure the acetic acid in the silicone will eventually eat up the foil portion because silicone slowly decays from amophrous silica unbinding. unless its neutral cure silicone. which is difficultto find. fyi neutral cure is electronic safe. cheat code . but gyea

This is my opinion, I highly doubt CGC would accept these let alone be in a partnership. I saw a video Rattle Pokémon posted about card altering. The person altering the cards specifically didn’t want to send to CGC because they caught and rejected his cards before. This is according to Rattle’s video. And Rattle hates grading companies but even he gave props to CGC.😂
BTW the Banjo Kazooie music fit so perfectly 😂
Yup rattle is the one who talked about it and who I researched after making this vid, it’s scummy as hell imo. Thank you and Banjo goes with everything! 😎
I follow the guy. He most definitely has a partnership with them. Iv seen him submit the cards he has cleaned and returned. He must be partnered because he swears about CGC and no other company BUT CGC. CGC must be giving him some sort of discount per submission
I generally just toss my cards in the laundry when i need them cleaned
Cleaning up or even coating/altering a card you’re going to display in your personal collection is fine, but yeah that card should never be sold or graded
As you can see though they advertise this is grading safe and “partnered” because it’s not altering 👀 if it was their personal cards I’d have no issues, but it extends past that 😐
Wonder how CGC would feel if they came across “mr clean”s channel. Then again, he’s probably just straight up lying about his partnership.
I think he’s lying but I can’t say for sure, google didn’t pull anything up… they’d probably look like this 👀

Guy has potential. Bob Ross of altering “cleaning” cards

Didn't he wipe off that stuff from the card when he was done? 🤔 I can't see anything wrong here, he just cleaned it and got the shine back 🤷♂️

I literally just want to clean any spots off of them then make the scratches in the holo part less noticeable.
My collection is exactly that, mines. I have no intention on selling and I really just want to admire the holos without spending an arm and both legs just for psa 10 versions and wish I had more limbs to afford a charizard lugia and ho oh in psa 10.
I’m gnna start using “coating “in my vocabulary like you said when I need a beer I’m going to say I need to coat my stomach with a beer or I need to coat my lungs with some weed smoke

You know how insecure you sound to each his own man
40 years ago, wood furniture polish (the spray on kind) was used to restore the shine to sports cards.
I said what I said and will not back down from it
How different is it from a car, Repair, fix polish to sell for a higher price $.???
Because a car isn’t made of cardboard
Stay away from my cards with that giant Q-Tip! Seriously lightly wiping over your cards is one thing ( I tend not to do this for fear of scratching) but sending your cards to a card spa is a little questionable in my opinion. 👀😱

I actually detail cars and do paint corrections for a living. Go learn about a process before you act as if you have knowledge on the topic.
@@XxSylasxX cars and cardboard are not the same. Your expertise on paint and metal frames means jack on cardboard, which will respond differently to isopropyl or other chemical additives to enhance a cards appearance. Pretty basic concept for a smart guy like you to understand
@@OpossumBud the people that use a wax or coating to “fill in” the scratch is another story. The ones I polish have gotten up to 2 grades higher with no altered grading. There’s a difference.

well this actually should be debated more…and i get that people are arguing for this kind of treatment beeing cleaning…in the art world, this would not just be cleaning, it would be called restoration! yes cleaning is also involved but you are adding something to to the product! to the grading companies…some people are actually really good at altering cards(especially in the sportscard world) that PSA and co don‘t always see it and that is actually worrying …many guys in the sportsector do this for a long time and that is why i never buy any expensive graded sports cards ever 😅
Sports cards have just been being altered for a long time, and seems like a good chunk of people don’t know…. This isn’t happening in my hobby unchecked 😐
