    lot of people are saying Kol metro should be owned by private agency or state govt, but people do not realize that neither our state govt have any money to build and operate metro, nor the metro unions will allow privatization, so our only hope is the Indian railways. Same situation of Airport as well.

    The irony of Kolkata metro is that it is controlled by Indian Railways...all other metros in different cities are not controlled by Railways...sad to say that such inefficiency of Indian Railways should be brought in front of public and all the so called bureaucrats should be punished

    • @sanjay59741
      @sanjay59741 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@souvikburman9797 It was a historical mistake in handing this to IR. Bureaucratic inefficiency is only one of the problems. Due to KMRC being part of IR and State not having any stake, there is less synergy and agreement between State and Centre in acquiring land and rehabilitation resulting in delays. Furthermore, Centre has neglected in giving priority to Kolkata Metro in terms of fund allocation given IR has so much to do in other areas in other parts of India.

Clearly the video states that it's RDSO which is deliberately delaying the process to fetch the Chinese Engineers, and all the other rakes... Thise Chinese rakes underperformed and failed during trail runs. When my father (with other CAG officials) went to Noapara carshed for inspection, the metro rail engineers said these Chinese rakes are very problematic and spare parts are not available in domestic market. These rakes also doesn't meet the minimum standard of RDSO.
    And DC third rail system always has some disadvantages. Other metros in India use 25KV AC overhead system which is far more superior and less prone to accident and failure.

    I don't agree with your analysis. You yourself stayed that RDSO is responsible for giving safety certificate before any section or trains getting gets introduced. If other metro systems are getting completed in 2 to 3 years timeframe and the very same organization is certifying their systems, it's not the work culture issue. It might be some other problem you you are not able to identify correctly. Understand each metro system is different and even tough the same company might have supplied trains for other metro systems, they might not be able to meet the requirements later down for Kolkata metro.

    • @MetroRailBlog
      @MetroRailBlog  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Might be the case. But considering it's Indian Railways, everything takes time here. If you remember, 3 years ago, new Medha series trains were cleared for commercial run in 2 years. For almost 2 years, the trains were left in the depot like trash. Also, construction of Kolkata Metro takes at least 10 years, when other metro rails take much less. It's quite obvious that delays happen in Kolkata because we don't have a corporate culture in Indian Railways. We need corporations or special purpose vehicles to build and operate metro.

    video is very informative. However as different state government are helping metro projects why is Govt of WB not concerned as we can see that small petty issues for poster is raised in the parliament by Govt of WB why is this issue not alarming to the the state. Also, why is the state dependent on Centre for eg Govt of Maharashtra has set up MMRDA for its metro projects execution.

    • @uglyindian4401
      @uglyindian4401 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Govt. of WB is under massive debt, and over & above it is yet to get its due tax collections under GST (close to ₹ 1 lakh crores). After GST, many states in India (especially those NOT run by BJP/NDA led Govts) are yet to receive their share of GST tax collection revenue. Let's not go into politics - we can go on & on about petty politics in India, but completely unnecessary. The thing is WB Govt, by itself is incapable of running its own Metro system, given the huge fiscal deficit and cash crunch.
      Tomorrow, if Ministry of Railways decides to stop running Metro operations in Kolkata citing losses, there is ABSOLUTELY NOTHING the Govt. of West Bengal can do come in rescue of the misery of lakhs of commuters using Metro everyday in Kolkata (apart from Demonstrations, protests and political gimmicks). This is the greatest difference between Bengal and all other states: be it UP or Karnataka or Telangana or TN or Haryana or Delhi or Maharashtra or Kerala or Gujarat or Rajasthan or any other state who would like operate Metro at their cities. Kolkata's transportation lifeline (be it Metro or Suburban Railway - local trains) is completely at the mercy of Central Govt led Indian Railways, which is ethically very very wrong.
      This again is the same reason why Bengal does not have super expressways and corridors or any other Mega-Infrastructure projects as in other states - because the Govt simply cannot afford any! In Hindi they say "Thun-thun Gopal" or in Bengali they say "Thnuto Jagannath", that is exactly the case of West Bengal Govt. Even the state tax collections system is abysmal to say the least, the root cause is of course three and half decade rule of CPIM reign, when there had been hardly any systematic tax collection system/register in place. Tax frauds & Tax evasions were rampant, and this has been the tradition religiously practiced for 3.5 - 4 decades! Can you imagine? The Communist forces had almost made paying taxes optional - "Mann Kiya Toh Dedo, Warna Rehne Do, Koi Zor Nahi Karenge..." policy was the order of the day!
      I am not taking any political sides or preferences, but tax collections improved in Bengal (albeit marginally) only after 2011. It's said that state tax collections DOUBLED in only a decade - from 2009-10 to 2019-20, and there is still a long long way to go. It's not so easy to establish a strict fully efficient tax collection system within a few years in a state where tax-paying had been more or less optional even a decade ago. Only if WB Govt. is able to clear off its debts, we can expect more Metro corridors and other Mega Infrastructure projects in Bengal under the aegis of the State Govt itself - and that is as good as building castles in the air.
      Kolkata Metro as we all know used to be under joint operations of both Central Govt (Railways) and WB State Govt (mostly in 74:26 ratio, please correct me if I'm wrong here), but it was the incumbent CM Herself who (as the erstwhile Railway Minister) handed over Kolkata Metro completely to Indian Railways in around 2010, thus completely removing any responsibility/stake of the Bengal State Govt in a Mega Infrastructure project under its own jurisdiction. So if anything is wrong with the state of affairs of Kolkata Metro today, you are certainly most welcome to pinpoint at one single person behind this entire fiasco.
      Again, I'm no supporter of any political party, so earnest appeal to you all to kindly keep me away from any heated political discussions & controversies. Peace!

    • @uglyindian4401
      @uglyindian4401 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @Gourab Agree with you, but then again there are few things to keep in mind. SEZs are already seeing a sunset phase in India, and now no SEZs in India are emerging or bringing much good to any state. Only few select SEZs in India have brought any success to hinterland regions in the state by passing on economic prosperity (eg: Kandla EPZ in Gujarat, Sri City in AP near Chennai etc. are among the handful few of them). Most SEZs in India have miserably failed, as they became hotbeds for corruption and tax evasion, and not for export promotion as was the initial intent. Even if Bengal Govt introduces any pro SEZ policy, it'll not do them much good, and they're well aware of that. Rather, it'll keep them starved of any instant equity (paati bhashay: mallu) for years together that Bengal Govt is in dire need of today.
      Secondly, the point that you made: INTENT - Absolutely Spot On! See, I'm not saying there must not be any people friendly socialist policies at all! No doubt when done in limited proportions, socialist policies solely intended to bring out the most downtrodden from abject poverty and restitution can work wonders, and they indeed have - even in Bengal (eg: schemes like Kanyashree has helped put a brake on girl-child dropouts from schools in Bengal).
      But there's a saying: Too many cooks spoil the broth. Overdoing on socialist schemes and policies is burning holes in the already empty coffers of the WB state revenue dept. Temporary schemes for a few months or even upto a year MAX would have been great to help people stand up after the drastic consequences of the pandemic. But prolonged continuation of such schemes like Lakshmi Bhandar, or distribution of funds to local clubs and many more such policies are painfully stretching the already strained revenue boxes of the Govt. I can say this because I'm told that officers in the Revenue Dept of Govt of West Bengal often end up tearing their hair in frustration anytime the CM comes with some new freebie/dole scheme!
      And all these are done merely to retain the votes of the millions dwelling in suburban and rural parts of the state,which account for around 90% of the state's population. The remaining 10% dwelling in the urban areas are of least concern to the Supreme Leader, as she considers some trident lights and painting the streets and bridges with various shades of Blue suffice all our needs! And whenever there is a clogged up street because of squatters and illegal encroachers, the simple solution to literally everything is "Er Opor Diye Ekta Flyover Tule Dao!" That, by the way which I'm so disrespectfully speaking about, is UNNOYON my friend (Raastaay Daariye Thaake Jei Unnoyon, sei UNNOYON!). Let me at this juncture sincerely apologise for my vulgar choice of words!)...
      So when you have such HIGHLY COMPETENT set of Netas and Netris leading our state, and no-one having even taken birth yet to challenge these great Women & Men on their turfs, how on earth are we expecting our Netas and Netris to even conceive of our teething troubles when it comes to daily commute or even rudimentary needs such as upliftment of our standard of living in our cities & towns with better roads & other facilities?
      But who cares? When an entire state is comprised of politicians who are Chauthi-Fail (Class 3 Pass) at best, how can we even expect such policies from them which will help enable our state replenish its coffers? To address this very issue, by the way, recently they took a decision to reduce prices of alcoholic beverages in the state - so that we all can drink up and make merry! So let's do the same! Daaru Piyo aur Naacho BC...!
      CHEERS to Bangla (hiccup) Banglar ei Deshe (hiccup), Bangla aamar Glass'e! 🍺🍻🥃

      @@porlobkundu2875 Look sir, not that everything is bad in Bengal. Bengal is still among the very few states in India within a higher range when it comes to Happiness Index (that has nothing to do with the no. of high paying jobs in the state , or per capita income or HDI Index ranking of the state - those figures are still abysmal, by the way). Across numeral social indices, Bengal gives even the big developed states in India a run for their money. Health & Education have in recent times done far far better than what they used to once upon a time (that being said, there is still a lot more to do). Once the worst state in India to do business, Bengal has solved lot of its teething troubles when it comes to all union troubles or loss of man-days or clearances & openness to new businesses (obviously there was not much option left). This is the same reason why Govt of India included Kolkata as a part of readings for the World Rankings of Ease of Doing Business, along with Bangalore to improve our country's World Ranking to 66 (from 100th rank in the previous year, when only Delhi & Mumbai were part of the ratings - clearly indicating that on the ground today, it's easier to do business in Kolkata today than in Delhi or in Mumbai - CONTRADICTING Popular Belief/Perception!)
      However, there is still a lot lot more to be done, and this cannot get said enough. The State Govt's complete Hands Off Policy for land acquisition when it comes to Industrial & Infrastructure projects is still a bummer to New Investments out there. Lot of new companies are opening office-spaces in Kolkata, however that is still nowhere close to that of the other Metros. Infrastructure projects - be it Metros or Highways or even the proposed Freight Corridor take ages together to see the light of the day. So the state is still moving quite slowly, but in the right direction. However, it's time they speeded things up. Because if Bengal develops, that shall simultaneously push up the economic position of entire East India, which in turn shall be beneficial for our India & its economy as a whole, and nothing would make me (an INDIAN First) happier!
      Best wishes to Bengal and its people from yet another "Probashi Bangali". Jaar Shesh Bhalo, Taar Shob Bhalo... Cheers! 😊
