I brought ruby sapphire to Chicago. Finished with 32 points. Definitely didn't make day 2 but didn't feel like I was too far off. It was my first time playing the two game format. A lot of splits but fortunately they gave 20 tickets to players with over 30 points so I was able to pick up my promo on Sunday. Overall it was a fantastic experience. Everyone was incredibly friendly and I really can't stress how great i think the player community is. I dont think i would have done nearly as well if it weren't for watching your podcasts and having access to moyens live streams so thankyou for all you do and keep up the good work guys!
Great podcast. It was fun to listen to before participating in the Chicago Challenge. Everything about the event was good but I really grew to hate the 2 game format. What started to happen at about round 7 was that people were able to math out the points needed. Those that found themselves needing to win 2-0 in all remaining rounds started making a deal with their opponent. They would agree that who ever won game 1 would get the 2-0 and keep their top 64 chances alive. If you did not agree with this then you risked going 1-1 and both being eliminated. This means it is a best of 1 and against the rules as I understand them. Just for transparency, I needed one more 2-0 and had 3 rounds to do it. I ended up in round 9 and did not want to break the rules so I played it out. Went 1-1 and we both were eliminated. Had either of us won we would have had 44 points and the cut off for top 64 was 43 points. Overall I enjoyed the event and am happy with how I played but the 2 game has a big issue, imo.
I will say make it a monthly subscription of $10-$25 a month. Even when they aren’t releasing sets they still get money. It would be cost of an entry fee for a tournament for that month.
Question: what should happen if someone at a Disney Lorcana challenge uses waifu sleeved cards as ink counters? In Chicago I was pulled for a feature match with a couple other players. They asked to see our card sleeves and told one player no because they used Disney Lorcana holographic sleeves that were bought on Etsy, my opponent used Boa Hancock sleeves for their ink tokens so we were not chosen.
In my city I am the only one playing just because of Pixelborn being there. Now it will be harder for me to keep myself competitive and I decided not to go to Bochum. Keep your good work going guys! Cheers from Italy (we met in Lille😁)
Myself and two friends who went to Atlanta also got sick afterwards. I don't know what I had but symptoms set in literally within 2-3 days of the event and my other two friend got COVID after the event. I guess it was bound to happen with so many bodies all in such a tight space.
I don’t think banning Bucky is necessary, all it would do is create a even less diverse meta. It would probably just result in sapphire steal being the best positioned deck since the matchup vs Ruby sapphire is fairly even and sapphire steel would crush the aggro that’s targeting Ruby sapphire. Edit: just saying this because I heard you joke about them banning Bucky and I know a lot of the community Actualy wants this.
I don't think they should either, because I don't like the idea of bans but...there has never really been a card that just basically makes you win and all but 2 colors can do anything about it. People thought Madame Medusa would be banned because it trivialized 90% of the playable cards in the game. People thought they would ban A Whole New World. I think there will always be good cards. Part of any meta game is you have to have answers to cards, but there are never solutions: only different trade-offs. Bucky doesn't really have any downsides and never has to exert ever. So unless they mass errata the card so it drops Ward until next turn when you play a Floodborn they should consider Restricting it to 1 per deck.
@@hatertime 1 per deck? The deck would be unplayable, there are plenty of answers for Bucky in the format and they are consistently hit, they do need to diversify answers for him but that will occur over time
I made a Reddit post talking about how bad it is PB is shutting down for the health of the game and I got dragged. Sooo many people are happy it’s getting shut down I have no clue why it’s been such an amazing tool.
I think a good way to monetize is it to do like... buy a booster box in real life... get all playsets of that whole set on the digital platform...and if people want to ball out... they can get enchanteds and alt arts.. skins basically. And every set.. it's the same thing like a video game DLC... where giving players access to all of the cards... to play online with...if they buy x$ product is almost mandatory. Or have a system where you unlock cards ... for free...just by playing the game.
They could make the game add based where that's where they make their money. Have disney ads and commercials between every match... sell add space.. and use it for mad disney advertising
Some top players are moving away from Ariel in Blue Steel because they already have enough uninkables, why play an extra two, 6 cost uninkables that don't impact the board? You could play an extra Grab Swords or Zeus if you want an Uninkable. They're playing 4 Tamatoa and they can load up on Pawpcicle, Fortisphere, Fishbone Quill and 1 Lucky time on the field its already 5+ lore.
Also I don't think there is any dispute that the best time to buy within a 2 day window when the set comes out. Prices were in absolute free fall when the set first released. Big Sisu was down to $12, Diablo was $30. Never pre-order. I got a playset of nearly every single card on release day. The only 2 cards I did not get were The Queen - Diviner and Yen Sid because they were both twice what I think they'd be worth when people actually get to play them. Legendary cards can be like that.
For online $1 packs same structure as real packs. Mtg arena is not great, way less chances on rares and mytics. I also think an actual trading system would go a long ways. Possibly a dusting system.
Ravensburger probably doesnt care about Pixelborn but Disney does. Star Wars Unlimited, Flesh and Blood, One Piece, and tons of other games do not have online clients. Ravensburger makes board games and puzzles, they would need a digital team to put it together. They would likely need a separate licensing, they would want original art assets, they would need to license some kind of engine or online infrastructure, maybe Disney music, build tutorials, ect. Then Disney would want to approve the artwork and make sure that there is no gambling. Ravensburger's approach to Lorcana distributing and growing the game was NOT that it would be immensely popular off the back of Pixelborn. They hadn't even made the game available worldwide yet. They haven't even crossed the 1 year mark yet. For Lorcana to have had a digital client would have meant Ravensburger knew there would be demand for it. I cant imagine they did. They only decided to start advertising in Set 5. We also don't even know if Lorcana is profitable yet. Lots of TCGs come and go, lots of them burn cash to get adoption. They spent years designing the sets, sourcing art, play testing and building draft environments before they ever made a dime. There have been 9 Star Wars TCGs, Ravensburger was never guaranteed a hit. Im going to miss Pixelborn. It allowed me to play more games than i could ever convince my Wife to play with me. My weekends are for my family, i cant justify going to the LGS. I am just not optimistic at this time for a Lorcana Online client. Especially since the signs all point to Ravensburger wanting to make a Paper game, with distribution and organized play and prize support at LGS. The good news is that making an online client is the "easy" part. The hardest part of any game is designing the mechanics, making the cards, testing them, adjusting them, and where they fit in among hundreds or thousands of different cards at the same time. Its absolutely nuts how many good Lorcana cards there are and still the game has insane balance. Bucky is arguably busted and may have been designed when thr mulligan rules were different, or maybe Ward functioned differently, or maybe it got some last minute adjustments before it went off to proofreading and type setting.
Great episode, gents! Particularly liked Brendan's stance on sportsmanship and table etiquette.
Agreed!

I've found ruby amerthyst has been solid for me recently. Is a set colour that I've stuck with since set one. That sisu is incredible.

Do you have any tips for the Ruby/Amythist match up for Ruby/Sapphire?

How the fuck are you supposed to know, and also care about the fact that, you have COVID nowadays... Come on 😅
what's the best way to calculate EV for a booster box in terms of opening it vs keeping it sealed and holding onto?
This is 100% wrong channel for this question, none of the hosts care about card value
@@AtomicBananana thanks! I ended up getting a first chapter box and opening an enchanted aurora, so confirmation bias tells me it's always worth it :)

What’s the logic behind “good card gamers have jobs?”

I knew Pixelborn was screwed when Lore ran a huge tournament that competed with the Set Championships. That was super dumb.

Is it possible for Pavel to sell Pixelborn to Disney/Ravensburger?
No. Doing so acknowledges that Pixelborn has operated in an illegal capacity and puts their ownership of the copyright at risk as a result.
Disney taking an interest is NOT a good thing
