  • Modena, has been slowly but surely making a name for itself as the true food capital of Italy. Often overlooked by tourists and visitors heading to Bologna and Florence, the smaller and quieter Modena, is home to many outstanding restaurants, including Massimo Bottura’s Osteria Francescana, currently reigning as the world’s best restaurant.
    We recently spent a month in Modena, sampling the local food scene. Here are our picks for best and worst dining experiences in Modena. And spoiler alert - you might be surprised which restaurant was the most disappointing.
    In this video, we take you to Hosteria Giusti, Ristorante Zelmira, Ristorante Oreste (Pavarotti's favorite), Latteria #21 and Franceschetta 58 (by Massimo Bottura).

    Hi, we love all of your videos and have added these recommendations to our itinerary!
    A quick question, could you please explain what the (1,3,7)/ (9) etc…. means on the menu of hosteria giusti?
    Grazie mille and we look forward to more of your videos :)

      Thank you for watching and subscribing! We appreciate the encouragement. We think the numbers on the menu correspond to notes about the dietary qualifications of the dish, like gluten-free, or dairy-free, vegan, etc. Have a fabulous trip!

    Thanks for the great tips, we're looking forward to our Modena trip next spring. What was the show-stealer at Latteria 21? Cheese ... ?

      Cheese flan. A vegetable flan covered with a melty sheep or goat cheese. It was sooo delicious!!! Might have been a special that day though - I think that restaurant changes their menu frequently. The two times that we have been there, they had an interesting mix of traditional modenese dishes and some more creative / fusion dishes. Mmmh, makes me hungry thinking of their food again.

      Near the Vatican, Pizza Roma Ricca's eggplant pizza. Sold by the slice from the counter, take away. Il Tarallo in Trastevere - if you're looking for a great Carbonara, one of Rome's signature dishes. Have a great trip!

    Lovely vlogs you always do! I am considering to retire in either Italy, Spain of France, maybe Portugal, from the US on a limited budget and can't seem to find anycomparison vlog on which one of these countries is the more affordable that offers warm, coastal, nice beaches, green spaces, great food, thins to do, hiking in a somewhat urban are or close to one as I like my shopping and movies sometimes - but in general I can't find any information on what country is best as far as cost of living, rental prices, any sales or other taxes (I would be retired). I love France (South coastal) best and loved your Nice vlogs but may be the least affordable country/area ??and I don't speak French, but Spain may not offer the foods in general that I like but I have considered Malaga, Italy has awesome food but not sure if that is affordable and don't want to be in some too small Italian coastal town although Ravallo seemed nice online. Could you do a vlog maybe on some of these topics? Thank you.

      Thank you for watching our videos and thank you for the idea. Congratulations on your plans to retire in Southern Europe!!! For cost of living, rental prices, and taxes, everyone is talking about Portugal these days, though we haven't been there yet ourselves. All the best for your adventure!

    You haven't in any way included some mid price but excellent trattorias or restaurants in Modena . One example would be Aldina's. Not everyone can afford the prices your reviewed restaurants charge. I would suggest more of a cross section.

    As an italian I think the food is very good everywhere in the country, but in Modena the quality is actually insane

    Okay so you didn't try Osteria Francescana?

    • @happygoluckytravel
      @happygoluckytravel  ปีที่แล้ว

      No we didn't -- way over our budget😉 And at Franceschetta 58, his bistro, which many people really like, our meals were not good. We also didn't make it to his cafeteria -- sounds fun.
