Only thing is that the vamp nexus is a lot trait, for the entire property, not just one room, isn’t it? Especially since he’s not using For Rent in this one.
Oh hell yeah, I am so here for this era of challenges. I love the long-term, legacy-esque pack based rags to riches challenges, but I am glad there is SOME positive outcome to the game being too buggy for that, lol! I wonder if/when James will do Deli's (delightful!) new tiny town challenge, though- it seems right up his alley!
Yay you're back! I think it would be cool if each occult would get their own space & something for them like the pool for the mermaid (maybe Nalani could sleep in a double bed with semaj tho because they're romantic). Also I think starting with the robotics skill and building the countless parts you need soon would be a good idea as it takes so long.
I think it'd be super cute to make Nalani join the Island Conversationist career so she has a link back to her home. And for you to build a themed room for her. Like using Island Living decor, myb an indoor pool for when it's cold outside (and/or put heater vents in the pool outside). You could make it like a mix between a secret mermaid grotto and an island getaway. So even if she's in Moonwood Mill she's got home bits of home. I think it'd be interesting if the house grew that way with every occult having a space that reflected them even if it doesn't match the OG house, or the rest of their rooms. It'd also be cool for if you were to switch it to a residential rental later. Esp if things between Simaj and Nalani end up with kids or something.
What you should do with the money that you will inevitably get with each sim is to build and decorate a room that matches that sims occult. Like the mermaid would have an indoor pool and lots of greenery. Inside and out to make the house look that much more just tacked on to each other.
I think You should add a room for each occult that joins the household and made it themed accordingly to them, so if we have a mermaid now, she should have an island-mermaid themed room :) Love the idea of this new challenge!
The haunted house one will get Temperance and Guidry at the same time easily! However, the haunted house trait is a CHORE so I would do that later in the series near the end maybe, so your house isn't so cluttered with haunted items. Same with Bonehilda, maybe start working on her later on, as you have more sims and need someone to help clean up (and remember - you need to buy a coffin for her to sleep in...she DOES get tired! ...and can't use beds.) And yes! Move into the shipwwreck on one of your Bigwallets and renovate it!!
Just want to send my appreciation and respect for the extra attention you put on editing and amount of time this single video must have taken. I'm genuinely curious how long it took to make. The challenge graphics/check lists and the mask around the wheel looks REALLY nice. I’m only an amateur self-taught editor so designing the graphics and creating the wheel mask (even if I just found the mask online) and then adding them to the video would take a good chunk of time. I know it wouldn’t take as long for someone experienced but it’s still a lot of extra effort “just” to make a nice looking visual aid to help viewers understand and follow along easier. It didn’t have to be so pretty and professional but it is. And then, you added it to your website. With so many individual graphics. Like, did you create each custom octagon icon? Just creating the folder in your computer with each individual octagon icon, versions of each one labled, versions of them grouped together and then versions grouped with labels, in addition to the actual completed graphics would take time. The small details on your website like hovering over the logos of the packs used so it says the name of each pack even takes extra time. This doesn't even include your build, testing some challenge gameplay, and then actually filming and regular video/audio edits. I just have a lot of respect and appreciation. I'm really excited for this series!! I'm writing this section for me out of my own curiosity. It would take amature me (and lets pretend I can build as fast as James does) possibly ~23-24 hours for this 1 video. Maybe more, maybe less. Some of my estimates are no doubt too high and too low but still.
My Estimated Breakdown: 1 full 8 hour workday w/ breaks to create all the graphics with different sizes, orientations, and file types. (don't have photoshop so would use canva) 1 hour: draft and write out the challenge on website. 2 hours: format and add the graphics. (not sure if formatting the graphics and icons is easier when you have a coded website. On Wordpress, resizing is very very annoying and hard to put wherever you want on the page) 5 hours: build the house, set up the save game, and player test the challenge. Possibly 2-3 hours of filming gameplay? I'm not sure how long James played the game but if this is a 46 minute video, he probably had to play around 2-3 hours right? I feel like just figuring out if she was a mermaid and building the relationship probably took 40 minutes. 15 minutes (I'm inexperienced with video content): set up/check OBS, lights, mic, greenscreen and camera. 2.5 hours: Trim and cut the recording and adjust audio levels. 1 hour: Adding the graphics and music. Once finally exported from final cut pro and uploaded to youtube 10 minutes: add link to the challenge post on website in description, add end cards, and proof read before scheduling youtube video.
Well thank you for your kind words, I really appreciate it! It did take a few days to actually put this video together with making all the graphics, editing and posting to the website. I did make all the individual octogon graphics. Obviously some of the icons are from the game themselves, others I had to make or modify such as Bonehilda, that one doesn't exist but I just drew a little maid hat on it haha Going forward Part 2, 3, 4, etc will be much quicker as all the graphics are already done. But yes, this particular video did take a few days of work to get it all together. I actually recorded a whole other video that took 3-4 hours and it didn't actually work out, so I had to go back and change some of the challenges to ones that worked and were fun!
A year or two ago I made a sims household to play while streaming with friends. I called it the Chaos Household and had one of each occult and they lived in a haunted house. It was both chaotic and fun! This reminded me of that! But I’m looking forward to more of this challenge!
I really, really, really like watching James play cause you can always tell he actually plays the way he wants, with what he wants, and not just what he thinks we want to see. His enjoyment is contagious. Thank you James!
Yes! And it has encouraged me to play the sims in ways I thought were uninteresting before. I almost always played with money cheats because the grind for money was boring and then over too quickly. By the time I had the money to build the house I wanted, I was bored with the family. But seeing how creative James is with different “rules” and implementing various features together has really changed the way I play for the better! I even have an actual legacy save now which I never would have done before lol.
I feel like the 20K from each occult moving in should go to building them their own room, added haphazardly on to the house. Each room should reflect the occult / pack they come from. After building the room, any funds left over can be used however you like.
It's just so buggy! I wish it would have worked how it was supposed to, I was super excited for that series and pack before it came out. What a bummer.
I think it would be cool if when you add the new occult to the household, you have to add on a room for them themed for that occult using the money you gained from them 🤷🏻♀️ but still somehow fitting with the style of house
The Sulani cleanup and the club points would both go faster if you added five sims to your club from the start instead of three - so you have six people earning points instead of four - and select "Conservation Activities" as an approved club activity as well as fishing. Club members that don't fit on the beach to go fishing with you should automatically do cleanup around the island instead. Incidentally, that lot is one of my favourite in the whole game to live on. It's 50x50, so if you demolish the existing building you can fit quite a large dwelling there and still retain the gardens around it. You don't have the Ohan'ali Town activities, but you do have swimming and fishing and cleaning up and watching the baby turtles hatching, and you'll see merfolk swimming around the corner by the underwater temple. All this while still being able to do all the normal at-home things sims do at home on any normal lot!
Im so excited for this series! I think Semaj should work on building a servo asap and just work on it throughout the lp since they take so long to make. Also I love the bedroom idea that was suggested.
I love it! Every occult sim should have a themed room, very distinct from one another. Perhaps going for the spellcaster next will be a great addition to the household
Fun fact about where baby fish come from that may or may not apply to mermaids: the majority of fish species do not woohoo. The females lay unfertilized eggs, and the male then fertilizes them externally by 'releasing' over the clutch. There's a fun magic school bus episode about salmon spawning where Mrs Frizzle makes the kids be the eggs while a daddy salmon does his business on them.
As someone who lives in a coastal state; this warms my heart. The fact James started a series on occults. Including beach conservation in the first episode. (Two parts of the Sims 4 people avoid in series.) Goes to show what a great simmer he is. I adore that he loves to play the game fully. No shame on others who prefer to avoid occults or the conservationist part of the Sims 4. I just mean it's refreshing to see the beginning of the series... Focus on things I'm interested in. Things that are important for the environment too. I've always wanted to do a beach cleanup. Though, I can't right now. Since, I'm focusing on other things. I might binge this series tonight is all I'm saying 😅 Also I have a joke: Only James Turner would know the point system of beach combing in the Sims 4. 😂
As soon as the house was shown off, I thought an "underground spring" pool for the mermaid would be super cool! Also, please please please save super often!! Mermaids are VERY glitchy, and have a lot of problems that require rolling back the save to fix! I really hope that this series doesn't run into that, but I get at least one every time I play longer stories/challenges with a mermaid in the household! (Not a mod/cc issue, I've had it on a never modded PC.)
@@JamesTurnerYT Just the Sim, not the save! The biggest bugs I've seen are the lower half of the mermaid Sim will disappear, or the needs will glitch. The lower half of the Sim disappearing persists through restarting the game. If it's only the mermaid tail, you can modify them in CAS while swimming to restore the tail. But if it's also the legs (when on land), or if modifying in CAS failed to fix the tail, the rollback is needed to fix the sim. The needs glitch is weirder, they just all drop to 0 suddenly and usually the Sim dies. I guess you wouldn't need to roll back if you didn't mind the sim dying? Tends to be a problem for people, but you do need a ghost! I haven't seen this one since right after HSY, so it's unlikely to show up, though I have been getting some unrelated random old, marked as previously solved on AHQ, bugs popping up lately in general, so who knows what else might resurface. Mermaids also get minor glitches such as the dry scales one getting stuck on the Sim indefinitely, but they usually have solutions like the dry scales can be removed with a potion or cheats. Mostly, I just hope if anything does go wrong, there's minimal impact! The game's been kinda rough on everyone lately, and I imagine it's much worse when you're also trying to record. This is a really cool series start, and I hope it continues well!
Fiiiiine, I'll play with occult sims too But seriously I'm so hooked on these challenge runs you've been doing lately! I had an absolute blast doing the Checklist Challenge combined with the Every Lot Challenge you did, so I'm pumped to tackle this one too!
Nalani is a mermaid. Mermaids always deny it even if you catch them swimming in mer form. 😂 Edit: Huh. Never had a mermaid bestie before. So I thought they always denied it.
Great idea, James. I just finished purchasing all the packs with occults so I'm particularly excited for this one. You and Deli have both been knocking it out of the park with the challenges lately! Thanks and keep i t up!
I think themed bedrooms for each occult person would be cool and would use up a lot of the extra money they bring, increasing bills, etc. And it would fit into the funky build of the home! Having them all go out together seems really fun and makes this seem like a weird gang 😂 I’m excited!
This challenge is a cool idea! I've been trying to make up an occult legacy challenge for myself, but I keep losing interest. I think I'll need to try this and see if it works out better for me.
Oooh I am here for this LP series!!! I rarely play with occults, trying to get more into it, had a vampire baby with Vlad, she immediately died as a teen from sunlight exposure 😭😂 but yes looking forward to the chaos that will follow this series!!
I loooove this challenge idea ! I clicked so quick when I got the notification XD I don't have the ask to join household problem i tried several time to check (saving before hand XD). I can do it normally, so are we sure it's a bug and not due to a mod ? Also technically Nalani (who's the mermaid in the island living trailer) didn't lie to James ! She says "A mermaid, what give you this idea ?" That could mean how do you came to that conclusion ? That doesn't necessarily mean she's not a mermaid XD And also, being a mermaid... you would not tell everyone that you are one. You have to be best friend with that person. So you can trust hem, I would think ^^ So... she waited until she became best friend with James. That checks out ! ;)
Such a fun challenge James! You always come up with such cool ideas, I will enjoy this series. Btw renovating the shipwreck build would be so interesting, I feel like it needs a serious renovation and you would make it very cool.
I think the money you get when you move a new occult in should go to an addition to the house. Like she gets an island living themed room bc she’s a mermaid. The vampire gets a vampire room etc
with the money from the occults you should build individual rooms for each occult and maybe something in the shared area that affects them (like the mermaid build a pool/pond and a bathtub, maybe the spellcaster will buy a cauldron for the whole occult family to eat out of, etc.)
Is anyone else amazed at how creative James is when it comes to creating his own games? It is so crazy to me and then all the efforts he puts into putting it on his website so we have access is incredible. Thank you James also great showmanship.
I like the idea of everytime you add an occult to the household, the money they come with use it to make them a room completely dedicated to their type of occult.
I'm 100% here for James renovating that shipwreck build. It's such a cool idea, but the build needs a lot more stuff to make it interesting.
It would also be a fantastic lot for a shipwrecked/survival challenge!
I agree! He would make it so much better!!
Didn't he have to start off with 20000 dollars?

This is the type of chaos I need in my Sims 4 content binge-ing life! Reminds me of the good ol' days of the asylum challenge!
making nalani go swimming to see if shes a mermaid reminds me of men saying to take women swimming as a first date 💀
LOLOL
James creating better challenges than the Sims themselves lmao, let's go king.
I'm looking forward to that challenge! Letting Deli play through it first though, don't want to do it at the same time :)
I did in fact miss “spin that wheeeeeeeel”. I’m glad you know us so well.
Slight issue with the Perch being an invasive species. They're freshwater fish, not saltwater, and would kinda die. lol
But, as always, Sims. . .
Maybe it can turn into a saltwater fish on that specific day..!
They're so invasive they started living in a completely different water type to spite other fish 😆
James is the king of coming up with cool new challenges 👑 LET'S GOOOO
Facts
Laughed out loud at Malcolm claiming the bed, then Nancy's attire, then Geoffrey's attire...😂
What you should do with the money that you will inevitably get with each sim is to build and decorate a room that matches that sims occult. Like the mermaid would have an indoor pool and lots of greenery. Inside and out to make the house look that much more just tacked on to each other.
I think it would be a good use of the money each sim brings in to build them their own room, themed to their occult and needs
Poor semaj can never catch a break lmao
He has it rough!
I think You should add a room for each occult that joins the household and made it themed accordingly to them, so if we have a mermaid now, she should have an island-mermaid themed room :) Love the idea of this new challenge!
Ive been playing sims 4 for years. Ive never heard of the tragic clown! Im here for this
Fun fact, The Tragic Clown first appeared in The Sims 1. I believe it's been in every pack thus far. 🤡
@@SyntheticGoth yep, never encountered em. Only had sims 2 the urbz and sims 3 basegame.
The haunted house one will get Temperance and Guidry at the same time easily! However, the haunted house trait is a CHORE so I would do that later in the series near the end maybe, so your house isn't so cluttered with haunted items. Same with Bonehilda, maybe start working on her later on, as you have more sims and need someone to help clean up (and remember - you need to buy a coffin for her to sleep in...she DOES get tired! ...and can't use beds.)
And yes! Move into the shipwwreck on one of your Bigwallets and renovate it!!
Probably will need 2 coffins ⚰️. One also for the vamp. 👍🏻
Bonehilda can sleep in the coffins?!??! 😮
My Estimated Breakdown:
1 full 8 hour workday w/ breaks to create all the graphics with different sizes, orientations, and file types. (don't have photoshop so would use canva)
1 hour: draft and write out the challenge on website.
2 hours: format and add the graphics. (not sure if formatting the graphics and icons is easier when you have a coded website. On Wordpress, resizing is very very annoying and hard to put wherever you want on the page)
5 hours: build the house, set up the save game, and player test the challenge.
Once finally exported from final cut pro and uploaded to youtube
10 minutes: add link to the challenge post on website in description, add end cards, and proof read before scheduling youtube video.
Well thank you for your kind words, I really appreciate it!
It did take a few days to actually put this video together with making all the graphics, editing and posting to the website.
I did make all the individual octogon graphics. Obviously some of the icons are from the game themselves, others I had to make or modify such as Bonehilda, that one doesn't exist but I just drew a little maid hat on it haha
Going forward Part 2, 3, 4, etc will be much quicker as all the graphics are already done.
James uploading is always the one thing I look forward to
I really, really, really like watching James play cause you can always tell he actually plays the way he wants, with what he wants, and not just what he thinks we want to see.
Mr Turner you are spoiling us. This challenge looks awsome!!! Cant wait😊❤
I feel like the 20K from each occult moving in should go to building them their own room, added haphazardly on to the house. Each room should reflect the occult / pack they come from. After building the room, any funds left over can be used however you like.
i LOVE the way james avoids rags to riches for rent 😂❤
It's just so buggy! I wish it would have worked how it was supposed to, I was super excited for that series and pack before it came out. What a bummer.
You and Deli really run the Sims community at this point with your challenges and contributions
Ooooh yes, super excited for this! Semaj is gonna struggle so much with a vampire in the mix 😂
Definitely needs to give vamp an umbrella for the sun.
Im so excited for this series! I think Semaj should work on building a servo asap and just work on it throughout the lp since they take so long to make. Also I love the bedroom idea that was suggested.
Swimming around with people who you suspect is a mermaid would be the quickest way if it’s been a while and you forgot.😂
I love it! Every occult sim should have a themed room, very distinct from one another. Perhaps going for the spellcaster next will be a great addition to the household
LETS GOOO I'm so excited for this!! ALSO THE EDITING?? Semaj's videos always getting better even when they're already great
Fun fact about where baby fish come from that may or may not apply to mermaids: the majority of fish species do not woohoo. The females lay unfertilized eggs, and the male then fertilizes them externally by 'releasing' over the clutch. There's a fun magic school bus episode about salmon spawning where Mrs Frizzle makes the kids be the eggs while a daddy salmon does his business on them.
I don't remember that Magic School Bus episode, but now I'm kind of glad. That's just wrong on so many levels. 😅
oh NO Miss Frizzle WHY
Is anone here a mermaid?
Literal mermaid from the trailer: 👁👄👁
I might binge this series tonight is all I'm saying 😅
Also I have a joke: Only James Turner would know the point system of beach combing in the Sims 4.
What kind of bugs? If it doesn't break the save I don't mind tbh. Like if they just glitch out I don't really mind haha
Thanks for the info!! Hopefully we will be ok!
Fiiiiine, I'll play with occult sims too
But seriously I'm so hooked on these challenge runs you've been doing lately! I had an absolute blast doing the Checklist Challenge combined with the Every Lot Challenge you did, so I'm pumped to tackle this one too!
Maybe Semaj could attend university in order to build his Robotics skill, then apply the knowledge towards working on the Servo?
I haven’t laughed this hard watching TH-cam in actual ages. Your comedic timing and jokes are always on point!!! New fan!
Yay new video! Thank you James for always being awesome!
The build is one of my favorites! The dirt floor room is great for displaying a shell collection.
Loving the idea of this challenge! Cannot wait for the next episode! 🎉
LOVE this, James! Between this and Deli's Tiny Town Challenge, you guys are killing it.
Nalani is a mermaid. Mermaids always deny it even if you catch them swimming in mer form. 😂
Edit: Huh. Never had a mermaid bestie before. So I thought they always denied it.
Same! The only way I've got them to admit it is with the shell. Like I can see your tail, and they'll still deny it 😂
Absolutely loved watching James desperately try to befriend someone in hopes they’re a mermaid directly next to a person who is a mermaid
The Landgrabs may have been wanting to try living among the poor, lol
Great idea, James. I just finished purchasing all the packs with occults so I'm particularly excited for this one. You and Deli have both been knocking it out of the park with the challenges lately! Thanks and keep i t up!
Me: *has over 600 hours in The Sims just on my most recent computer*
Also Me: ...Since when have skeletons been a thing??
It’s in Jungle Adventure and kinda hidden really, if I remember it’s what happens when you cure the green swirly illness you get from the insects 😊
Ohhh thank you!!
I clicked so quick when I got the notification XD
I don't have the ask to join household problem i tried several time to check (saving before hand XD). I can do it normally, so are we sure it's a bug and not due to a mod ?
Also technically Nalani (who's the mermaid in the island living trailer) didn't lie to James ! She says "A mermaid, what give you this idea ?" That could mean how do you came to that conclusion ? That doesn't necessarily mean she's not a mermaid XD
And also, being a mermaid... you would not tell everyone that you are one.
James she is literally THE mermaid omg.
Is anyone else amazed at how creative James is when it comes to creating his own games? It is so crazy to me and then all the efforts he puts into putting it on his website so we have access is incredible. Thank you James also great showmanship.
OH YA GIRL IS EARLY EARLY
I like the idea of everytime you add an occult to the household, the money they come with use it to make them a room completely dedicated to their type of occult.
I like the idea of an underground grotto and then you can change the lot type to haunted house to get Guidry.
I'm absolutely doing this challenge. I've been in a rut and this sounds like a great side game to my legacy play. Thanks for writing it out for us.
Hi James! Each occult should get their own room themed to them
